Tech slipped up, or did she?

Hey ladies, just out of curiosity. I swayed pink but I'm 150% sure I'm pregnant with another boy. I'm 20 weeks along and team green - well, I was until yesterday at the scan. Here's what happened:
Before the scan, I told the - very experienced - tech I didn't want to know gender and also that I would see a specialist doctor in 3 weeks time for another very thorough u/s to detect possible birth defects (I've already given birth to an affected child). She said fine, she'll just do a 2min scan to measure head and abdominal circumference.
She did and was done in 2mins like she said. Spent no time checking gender of course. I never looked at the screen.
After the scan she commented on how rare being team green had become and that SHE now knew exactly what I was having (broad smile). Then she said that unfortunately she couldn't give me any of the u/s pics (health insurance covers up to 5 printouts) because the sex was clearly visible in all of them.
I was SO CLOSE to saying "damn it, you just confirmed it's a boy, hand me the goddamn pictures" but I was too shocked and just left.

So... if you ask me, she DID confirm it's a boy. Even at 20 weeks, only boy parts are so undoubtedly clear and visible within less than 2 mins, right? I've never heard of a tech or even doctor, no matter how experienced, who identified a girl with so much confidence after a 2min scan without even deliberately checking for gender. In addition, I'm a layperson, and we all know that for laypeople girl parts can look confusing and that only a penis can be immediately unmistakable at 20 weeks. So if it was a girl, she wouldn't have had reason to be worried that I'd recognize the sex too easily, at least not in the pics where the baby wasn't in a good position, right? What do you think?

im sorry you had this experience, if its any help i went for a scan with my 6th pregnancy, i was 18 weeks, the tech put the scan probe on me to begin and the second it touched me there were the 3 lines clear as day. good job i wasnt team green with that baby because that would of been over right there-right then!! its not like the tech scanned around for the potty shot it was the first thing we saw when the scan started.
im not sure what she means by the gender being in every pic.. profile shots even full body ones dont show gender so im not sure what pics she was taking if she knew you didnt want to know :-/

honestly id say your still team green boys are (usually) very obvious at 20wks but girls absolutely can be too!!

No, that's not the case at all and girls and boys alike are very obvious at 20 weeks (that is why they DO gender scans at 20 weeks!)

Hiya, as you said she was a very experienced tech so she must have just known from experience without having to look thoroughly, but either way doesnt mean shes confirming Boy id say.

Thank you everybody for your replies! This is good to know. Of course I sort of hoped the tech would just be competent enough to be able to tell immediately, but from my friends I only ever heard of techs/doctors that were really reluctant to tell gender even at 20 weeks if they didn't clearly see a bouncing penis. They'd only say "well, there are no obvious boy parts, so I'm assuming..." 4blue, wow, quite a story, I didn't know a girl could be SO obvious within seconds! LOL
Yeah, I don't know what pics she was taking, but I know that the baby was moving a lot and I just suspect his goods made it into every pic.
At least this has convinced me not to be team green anymore. I've worked hard (and successfully) at accepting and embracing another boy and can't afford to be thrown back into the whole GD thing now, so I'd rather find out and move forward. Fortunately DH agrees (he said he's fine with boy, girl, intersex and will go with whatever helps me most ). I'll let you know in 3 weeks! Thanks again!

My girls were all really obviously on the scan. We were team green on number three. I told the tech this and she avoided the area at all costs. Despite this, I still saw the three lines - even though she skimmed the area so fast. So I just knew. For the rest of the pregnancy I googled my heart out that it might be wrong but my gut told me I was no longer team green and she was another girl - low and behold she was!! So yes...girls can be really really obvious on a scan.

I’d say you’re still in with a 50/50 shot & that your still team green xx

Awesome, thank you 3littleladies for your story! I hope you weren't too disappointed... if it helps, you're living my dream - I wanted 3 girls since I was a girl myself. Never changed. Imagine if I end up with 2 boys...! Well, we can't pick and choose our kids from a catalogue, that's for sure!
