I'm sorry, what I'm writing has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. But what you're saying is so interesting to read! The last two months we had our attempt late in the evening and the next morning my opk turned positive. This is a really strange time for me, normally it gets positive in the afternoon. And I would have expected the positive opk one day later in both cases. So I was wondering exactly this, if semen can trigger ovulation.

Yes it's a fascinating (and probably understudied) topic. Here are a few articles I found incase you are interested!

    https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog...waway-in-semen
Semen Triggers Ovulation, New Study Suggests
    https://www.pri.org/stories/2012-08-...les-study-says

And some studies, but these are a little harder to read...

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3443178/
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23141951
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27762054

I don't know for sure, but that could definitely be what's happening in your case. It seems like SO many women who track their cycles religiously and plan cut-offs complain of early ovulation after BD - it must be more than a coincidence!

Thank you so much for all that literature! Really interesting topic. I thought about it a little more and this might also have happened when we conceived DS2. I was hoping for a cut off (typical swaying newbie Shettles fault ), but my ovulation came two days earlier than all the months before.

I actually have one more point I want to add...

The author instructs her readers to abstain from unprotected sex and use OPK's twice daily for three months in order for them to better understand and predict their cycle, prior to attempting to conceive.

In the Facebook group I noticed a trend where SO many frantic, super stressed out women were complaining that they tracked their cycles perfectly for months in advance, cycles were 100% regular etc etc, but then on their attempt cycle they would BD on the day they expected would give them a perfect 2-3 day cut-off, and then BAM O surprises them and comes earlier than expected and they end up with just a one day cut-off (or OPK's progress faster than expected indicating that O has come earlier).... Like three or four women would post about this a day and then loads more would respond saying the same happened to them.

I was wondering whether this had to be more than a coincidence, so did a little research and actually found quite a bit of evidence to suggest that semen has a protein in it (Ovulation Inducing Factor) which can actually trigger ovulation once it's in the reproductive tract....

If there is any truth to this at all, then no matter how well you think you understand your cycles through OPK's and no matter how perfect your cut-off is, there is a chance ovulation may be triggered early after BD and render all the planning, tracking, and money spent on OPK's useless. If you are putting all your eggs in the 'timing' basket then that's a big blow!
I just stumbled across this, but this observation has been documented medically and I was told that's why sex is off limits during IVF even with cetrotide (a drug that drops ovulation from occurring) -- sex can potentially trigger ovulation.

Anecdotally, in Novembermy DH was going out of town for 2 weeks and I was due to ovulate (which I had documented for eons) when he was gone. We trying to prevent that month since we had had so many losses and had our third IVF consult set up. Lo and behold, perhaps all the unproected seemingly safe sex, but I ovulated early and got pregnant.

I just read the book too now!

I think it’s worth mentioning that even if the author has got some things wrong I’m sure she is just trying to help people as atomic is. Yes she is making money out of it but so do a lot of people in professions that help people.

For me her method only works if x sperm capacitate later than y? Does anyone know if this is true?
I'm sorry I missed this somehow. No one knows if X sperm capacitate later than Y. This claim is probably based on the "X sperm live longer" idea which has been debunked What are the REAL differences between X sperm and Y sperm?? so now some people are switching over to claiming X sperm capacitate after Y but there is no way for them to know that.

I have no issue with anyone making money off of swaying. (Reminder, I make money off of swaying! ) I know my name is mud on some sites for profiting off swaying and I would never turn around and do that to another person. My point in mentioning that is that whenever a study (like the McSweeney study) is done by persons/entities who are profiting from the outcome then it's simply not as valuable as something like the Oxford study where the people aren't profiting from the outcome, that's all.

I do have some issues with people stealing stuff that discovered, for the sole reason that I spend 6-8 hours a day for the last 8 years answering tons of questions and didn't have time to write a book, LOL. But honestly, that's a minor annoyance - if I really cared I'd have done whatever it took to write my own book because I knew all along people were lifting the approach we have. No biggie, that's life in the big city. The main issue I have with Babydust Method is that people are going many months to years not getting pregnant doing the Babydust approach. And if as Jodles is saying is true, and she's actually manipulating the results to look more effective AND encouraging people to keep going month after month with BFN after BFN...well, that really seems borderline unethical to me. Making promises of fake success rates that end up causing women to expend years of their fertile window chasing a sway method that makes it next to impossible to conceive is just not the way I roll. That means that some women will end up literally with no baby because of misleading info and since some of my good friends back on IG did exactly that...swayed strictly for years, wasted the last of their fertile years on swaying but never got pregnant, ended up paying out tons of cash to fertility clinics, only to end up with no money and no baby because they wasted so much time swaying - it rubs me the wrong way.
