    What calories recommended when pregnant

Hi Atomic, I came to you with the problem of gaining weight during pregnancy and gestational hypertension and you advised me to follow PCOS diet for le version and I did, and le diet also

First cycle I gt bfn and second cycle I gt bfp,

According to my visit to gyn am 4 weeks pregnant. The issue here is am afraid of adding more calories as am afraid of the weight gain, which are the calories recommended for a pregnant woman, I talked to gyno and he said I should do 30 minutes exercises or walking, he also said limit sugary foods if you craving for them which I never did through my other 2 pregos for my boys, am afraid I might have tk it too far with artificial sweeteners cos have been taking them in all my coffee which where 3-4 cups daily, doesn't aspartame cos anything to the baby. Am nervous now.
Atomic or anyone your help is appreciated thank you in advance

Your doctor is wrong, you can have sugar and you can now please drop artificial sweeteners. You don't need to eat a lb of sugar every day or anything, but you can absolutely have some when you want at a reasonable level of intake unless you have gestational diabetes (which my memory is telling me may hve been a concern for you?? If so, you should limit sweets of course, this advice is for people who don't have gestational diabetes.)

Please do not worry excessively about weight gain. While it's obviously a concern if you did have gest. diabetes you still need to gain some weight during pregnancy regardless.

I am REALLY worried about you because you had some signs of an eating disorder in your past posts and now that you are pregnant you should eat to gain weight. 25-40 lbs is a safe amount of weight gain. PLEASE DO NOT continue LE Diet or in fact any diet into pregnancy unless you are under the care of not only your doctor but a nutritionist who is trained in pregnancy nutrition.

I can't give you a specific number because a petite woman needs fewer cals than a tall woman. Most women need about 2000 cals in the first trimester and about 2500 per day by the end. The middle of pregnancy should be somewhere in between, but I think you should let your hunger and your weight gain be your guideline here.

Your tummy will grow - pregnancy makes you more hungry over time!

Yes please add a meal or two if you can't eat very much at one sitting. There is NO HARM in adding meals and snacks now. Some people have thought they need to avoid breakfast and snacks even when pregnant - and this is absolutely NOT TRUE. You can eat normally now and remember you're eating for two, LOL.

most people like to cut back to 2 cups a day of coffee as that's safer, others give it up entirely.

(I drank coffee during pregnancy and so did my mom - but it's what you feel is best of course)
