Baby's Weight..
I've had repeated level 2 ultrasounds (my doctor says they're more accurate than the regular ultrasounds?) with this pregnancy to monitor our baby.. My first daughter was estimated to be 7 pounds (They didn't use any ultrasound, they just felt her) and she was born the next day, in the 38th week, at 8 pounds 13 ounces. My second daughter we did have a level 2 ultrasound to check on her because she was over due. She measured 9 pounds 8 ounces. She was also born the following day, in the 41st week, weighing 10 pounds 0 ounces. So the ultrasound was pretty close; only 8 ounces shy.
Skip to this baby, he was measuring 5 pounds 0 ounces at 32 weeks. Yesterday I had an ultrasound at 36 weeks and he's measuring 7 pounds 8 ounces. The ultrasound tech told me that since he gained 2 pounds 8 ounces in the last 4 weeks, we can expect that same growth to continue for the remaining 4 weeks. So if he makes it to his due date, I'm looking at my second 10 pound baby. Is this accurate??Happily Married Since 2012

No. They are not great at judging the baby's weight via ultrasound and nor are they good at predicting what your baby's weight will be at birth. Since you do have nice big babies it's likely your newest addition will be larger too but they are guessing about what the baby will weigh at birth, I wouldn't worry about those predictions as I have seen them be wrong much of the time. Good luck!

My first son was 8 lbs 12 oz. My second son was 7 lbs 10 ounces. Both born at 39 weeks. With my 2nd, there were times during the pregnancy that I measured up to 4 weeks ahead. They told me to expect that he'd probably be bigger than my first. We were pretty surprised when he was under 8 lbs. So I don't know - I think they can make guesses but they can definitely be wrong. I think with both of mine their growth may have slowed down towards the end as my weight gain slowed down in the final weeks.

Thanks ladies. Makes me feel a little better. I think my main reason for worrying is because my 2nd daughter was a vey scary and complicated delivery because of her weight. I didn't think weight would be an issue this time around as long as I didn't let him go over due like I did my daughter. I don't really doubt that the ultrasound is close because it was pretty close with my daughter, but it really blew my mind when she said he would likely gain another 2 and a half pounds over the next 4 week. I thought he would slow down the last few weeks, but that puts him at 10 pounds by his due date. I really don't want to go through, or put another baby through all that again.
We have another ultrasound coming up to check on his head circumference at 38 weeks and if its still measuring 3-4 weeks ahead, they'll schedule a c-section.Happily Married Since 2012

It's often easier with each subsequent baby - your body is better able to handle a big baby. I swear my 5th baby just practiclly walked out on her own LOL even though she was my second biggest!
