Ha I'm such a sucker for all of that stuff. I go to psychics, tarot card readers and palm readers since I was a teenager too. One tarot card reader in my hometown is weirdly accurate and pretty blunt. He told me at 18 that I had a heart murmur, which I'd never been told before... low and behold, 2 years later, in college, I was experiencing anxiety attacks and the Dr found a heart murmur! So when I was told several times by different "readers" to expect twins, I kinda thought it might happen. When I got my BFP, my took my HCG levels and the numbers doubled extremely rapidly so some stuff online says that could be twins. Today was our first scan, only 1 healthy baby :) I think sometimes we make our own destiny... or sometimes the stuff we hear in those readings help us change our course. I wouldn't worry too much!
A huge number of people will have a heart murmur (50-70%) at some point over the course of their lives so that's a pretty easy way for someone to seem like they're legit. Lots of people have them during childhood at some point and so many people will say "oh wow that's amazing, I was told by a doc I have one". I've heard that before as being a tactic psychics use to legitimize themselves.
It's fine to go in for this stuff but do keep it in perspective. :)
Oh my gosh, are you serious? That's so funny and such a bummer at the same time. I have thought that tarot reader was legit for agesssss. I had no idea the heart murmur statistics. Man, I feel so silly now. Oh well. I still check my horoscope :)
Yes. Totally serious. I read an article by a mentalist that described some of the strategies they used (this was pre-internet and I can't find it in a search or I'd link you to it) They use common problems that many people have as a strategy for legitimizing the things they tell people and that was one of them.
I still read my horoscope too! :)
