    Foot pain

I have had extreme ball of foot pain the past couple days and was wondering everyone's thoughts/experiences. We are leaving to go way out of town and I can't get in to see a doc.

A couple of days ago I wore super flat sandals, which I didn't think much of because they tell pregnant ladies to avoid heels. Well, they weren't the most padded and that evening the ball of my foot started aching. I haven't worn them since. The next day, and all today the ball of my foot right on the inside by big toe hurts so bad I can barely walk. Since I'm not walking with the best form, now the side of my calf is starting to hurt and the ball of my foot is getting a little swollen. Would wrong shoes hurt a foot this bad for this long??? I'm starting to wonder if I have gout or something but I thought that was mainly from drinking too much beer. It's not the toe itself that hurts either. I never fell or anything so I don't know what is up other than I can barely walk!

Have any of you experienced this before and what did you do about it?

    Thanks!!!!

It sounds like plantar faciitis and YES a bad shoe can cause it. super flat ones are the worst. It gets inflamed and then takes quite some time to work itself out. What works for me when I get it is a combination of going barefoot and supportive shoes. Weirdly, not one or the other but both. Do one till your foot starts to hurt then switch to the other.

Women of childbearing age hardly ever get gout.

During pregnancy your body releases this hormone called relaxin which does exactly what it says LOL - relaxes everything which allows uterus to grow and your pelvis to stretch out. But it works on all your tissues which causes all kinds of weird aches and pains. I think that plus the sandals did you in but I do think it will get better.

Thanks!! Finally feeling and walking pretty good. It had terrible timing, when I was crazy busy and couldn't sit down at all for a couple days. I tried running shoes the fourth day and our 5 1/2 hr car ride finally helped. I do have high arches and think the too-flat shoes put to much pressure and weight on my joint both from flat shoes and the pregnancy "relax ness". It was just making me wonder with how painful it was and it was starting to swell up.

It sounds like it could also be the start of a neuroma based on the location and how it started. The pain can come and go and is worse wearing shoes with no support. Stretch out your calf and your foot. You can also put padding in your shoe or on your foot if it starts up again. They have pads you can to just the ball of your foot. I have been fighting one for a few months now and I got a gel pad that has really helped!
