    Folic Acid

When should i take less folic acid? From the begin of my pregnancy I take 800mcg I’m 13 weeks yet should I make it 400mcg? I heard high doses after week 12 is a higher risk for a autistic child

800 mcg is not a high dose. You can continue that level all through pregnancy. Or, you can wean back to 400 mcg if you prefer. Do that gradually though by spacing doses further out till you're taking the amount you wish to.

Just to clarify, higher dose folic acid is not believed to cause autism. For reasons doctors do not understand, a few women's bodies saved up high amounts of folic acid (even when they were not taking high doses at all!) and it was those very high amounts and ONLY at the end of pregancy, that seemed to be connected with higher rates of autism. But no one knows if it was from taking folic acid or if whatever was making their bodies save that folic acid up, was also connected to higher rates of autism. This is not something that affects the normal person anyway since very few of us have this problem, and we wean off extra folic acid at the end of the first trimester anyway.
