Genesis implanted the wrong gender in someone, probably a mixup in the lab. It was their baby but not the right gender.
Clinic C, on the other hand, gender selection is illegal there. So unfortunately one of our members only had an XY and the doctor refused to reveal the gender of the embryo till it was implanted. Going to Clinic C we exist on their good graces and the reality is that they can change their mind at any time and refuse to disclose gender, so you have to know that going in.

That's misinformation though. They will usually let you pick (and they don't disclose anything I believe, just give you a lab report and then you select the embryo to put in). But it's not all straightforward, not at all, and everyone has to be secretive. Totally open is a gross overstatement and it's all very stressful and fraught with uncertainty.
Luckily the lady in question did end up getting a girl naturally in the end.

They don't have to tell you anything. They do it as a wink-wink, nod-nod, under the table thing but it is entirely dependent on the good will of those involved in the process.
I think you need to take away this - it doesn't matter if it happens one or two times or twenty times, or even what clinic it was. The fact is when you go to a country in which this is illegal and done under the table it is ALWAYS possible that you will get in there and the policy will have changed and you'll have shelled out $$$$ for something that is now off the table for you. This has not only happened in this country (CZ) but at least 2 other countries that people in the midst of a cycle, the law of the land changed or there was a crackdown by the authorities and they had to give up on cycling there even after having paid for it. It seems a HUGE massive gamble to me in an arena that is already fraught with uncertainty.
People have a tendency to feel loyalty to the clinics that worked for them. This is completely human nature and understandable but those of us who don't feel that loyalty (perhaps obviously, LOL) are trying to look out for your interests.
