The point of the lic root is to?? Lower testosterone? My dh is 41 but has the testosterone of a 25 year old. He recently had a physical with blood work and this is what they told him. It was over 1000 whatever that means. So should he still take it?

Yes, licorice root lowers testosterone levels in men...BUT not without a price. My DH is 40 yrs old and we will NOT be using it in our sway because of the dangerous side effects. I think Atomic recommends that men over age 35 not use it for that reason.
Lower testosterone and raise estrogen and this reduces sperm count.
The prob. with licorice root is that it's the most dangerous supp we take. It can raise blood pressure significantly (and this is not an exaggeration, people have given themselves hypertension by eating black licorice and the supps are a lot stronger.) Men who are overweight, smoke, have a history of HBP or cardiovascular disease, or are over 35 or so should either skip LR all together or else proceed with VERY great caution (to the point of buying a blood pressure monitor and watching it very closely.) Sudafed, which is something else people sometimes give their husbands, exacerbates this problem.
I didn't give my husband licorice root either for our sway when he was 39 or when he was 42.
So you really think it should not be used at all if your husband is like, 41? Not even a very small dose?Quote:

It is, as always is the case, your decision. My hubby is not real into "health" (drinks, smoked with our last conception, eats horribly and has always had kind of higher blood pressure (he's really tall and that is true of a lot of taller men). One of our neighbors also died unexpectedly at 45 years old so I just chose not to take the chance.
The other thing to consider is sperm health, the LR may really affect that negatively.
