How'd you choose you childrens names?

Just wondering - How did you choose you babies names? How much input did you OH have?

And if you feel comfy about telling it, what are your children's names?

DDs name was fully picked by me as her dad had zero interest. She was initially suppose to be called Sophia - but when she passed it didn't seem right anymore, so I named her Lily - as that means innocence and I thought it was perfect. Her middlename is Malou, which is a short form of my sisters names (Maria Louise). So DD is Lily Malou.

Our boys names were a bit of a compromise.

When we had DS1 we agreed on a name, but at the 3D scan it seemed completely wrong and I just couldn't get used to it. OH suggested Tristan, but I didn't like it - I thought it was a tad too fairytale-name, and he completely vetoed my name suggestion, Noah, as he thought it was too religious. So we compromised - he got to choose this baby's name and I chose the next. So DS1 was named Tristan, my dad picked his middlename (unknowingly) as he thought he looked like an Alexander (this was before my dad and I completely fell out, we were trying to repair the damage). So DS1 is Tristan Alexander.

DS2 was named by me, although OH wasn't happy about it at all! So I told him that until he came up with a better name or just a suggestion at all this would be his name. We did agree on the middlename though as we both loved it. So when DS2 was born OH said "Nah I think your right - he is a Noah!". DS2 full name is Noah Theodore.

This time we're completely stuck on boys names, but all set on girl names (we learnt from DS1 and always choose two names, just in case!).

We chose the names together!
Ds1 was supposed to be Luca but after two days of calling him Jack it stuck and his Jack.
ds2 and ds3 were so hard we had 3 names for each and both times we waited until they were born and we had spent a few hours/days with them to see what suited because of Luca !
Our Angel boy is Thomas and we had known from the start that he was Thomas, right up till the u/s were they found he had passed, they also said he was a girl. So Nevaeh we chose, we have always loved it and thought it an appropriate fit, but he was/is our Thomas not that it matter's either way.

Ds1 was always going to be Amy for a girl or Oliver or Charlie for a boy but when he was born we changed our mind to Owen
DS2 never had any name for him until i went into labour and DH was talking about a new player on his football team called Ellis we both agreed we liked it.
DS3 was always going to be finley / finlay but when he was born it didnt suit him so we made a super fast swap to Liam - neither of us were mad about it but it was the only name we could come up with we didnt both hate

This time if its a boy we are f*cked !!! There is not a single boys name i love and not 1 we agree on either - DH said we will just have to name him james after dh and dhd dad but i really dont like it.

I chose DDs name, i was just looking online at names and i decided that i would like an A name because my dad, partner and brother all have A names. We didnt give her a middle name.

DP named our son my only condition was that it start with C because my mum and myself both have C names. we wont be giving him a middle name either.

I think it makes it a bit easier if you start with the initial, because it narrows down the search a lot, i would probably still be searching for a name if i had to consider the whole alphabet.

My DH and I used the same method to name all three of our boys. I read through lists and lists of names. I wrote down all of the names that I liked or at least kind of liked. We looked over the list together and he would veto the names that he really disliked and I would look back over it and remove the ones that I had changed my mind about.

With our first DS I fell in love with the name Bryce. DH vetoed it but I kept putting it back on the list because I'm sneaky like that. After some time he fell in love with it too and our oldest DS is Bryce Michael. Michael is DH middle name.

Our second DS is Austin David. We were stuck on three names. I liked them all but didn't LOVE any of them so I let DH decide. He picked Austin and we decided on David together.

Our third DS we made the list again. Just like the first time DH kept vetoing my favorite name but eventually came around. He said that I since he named the second one that I could pick his name. Camden Reese. My sister's name is Teresa so Reese is after her. That is what we call her :)

If we have a fourth DS we will be screwed. There are no more boy names that we like. If we have a DD (fingers crossed) then we have 3 names in the running!

We just picked names we liked. No meaning to any of them what so ever - easy that way as no family member gets insulted :) and my boy both have two middle names so seriously, if I have another boy we are up a TREE! Finding six boys names we liked was hard enough.. I can't even imagine coming up with 3 more!

I picked the names and DH let me have them, he really is great at letting me have my way :)

My first DS is Ryan Christopher. That was always our boy name even before we were preggo. We just loved the name Ryan and Christopher is after my brother. My second DS is Asher Jonathan. I made a huge list of boy names I liked and DH vetoed ALL of them. I burst into tears because I was so emotional and convinced our baby would end up with a name I didn't love. So I told DH to find names that he liked and we would talk about them. That's when he found Asher. I always loved the name Asher but never put it on my list because I thought it would be too different for my DH's liking. His middle name, Jonathan, is after my DH.

This third baby is also a boy.... I was really hoping for a girl to name her after my mom who died 8 months ago. We don't really have any boy names that we love. Sigh..... But I'm about 95% sure this little one will be Joel Aaron. Joel is one of the only names we can agree on and Aaron is after my mom (Sharon).

Before my husband and I were married, and even really *thought* of kids, my husband always maintained that if we had a boy he wanted to name him Joseph Quinton. When I did become pregnant (by accident) with DS1, my husband still said he wanted to name him that, and because I didn't think it'd be a boy (didn't really consider the possibility of any gender besides a girl--I don't know why now, in hindsight) when they said boy, I was so shocked, I wasn't all that invested in the boy's name, thinking I'd want more input when we one day had a girl. My husband decided that he didn't like Joseph anymore for a first name (though I did, I always kind of wanted to nickname a boy "Joey" ..growing up, I loved the Concrete Blonde song of the same name, of course he's a drunk in the song, but I digress.) Anyway, he said he wanted to call him Quinten instead, and spell with an -en like his name is Bryen, with an -en. So I said OK, because having a son was ultra important to my husband, he was the only one left to carry on his last name and the more I heard the name, the more I fell in love with how unique it is, but not hard to pronouce. And when I met him for the first time, I was so happy his name matched him perfectly. So DS1 is Quinten Joseph.

DS2 was hoping for a girl but had a gut feeling he'd be a boy. Husband wouldn't think about boy names until we found because he was so sure it was going to be a girl, that he made me consider girl names only at first (this in turn, of course, made my GD with DS2 200 times worst!) So we first thought about Gillian, then we decided on Lillian, but with no middle name yet chosen. Surprise! DS2 is a boy, of course, and it took up until a month before he was born to find something we could agree on. He's a compromise name. Because I really wanted a girl with him, I searched very hard to find the perfect name, to help the bond out. I wanted Wyatt or Aiden, DH wanted Jarren or Orrin. We settled on Evan Thomas. (Thomas in honor of my dad)

While I was swaying, I was unsure if I wanted to use the same name we had picked out if DS2 had been a boy. I had mixed emotions about Lillian / Lily...I liked it but wasn't sure I wanted it to be "the" name. Since my DH shot down a ton of girl names (saying things like oh that's a name a stripper would use, or I knew some bad girl in HS with that name....etc *eye roll here*) I decided we'd stick with Lillian, since I did like it already. So DD is named Lillian Elizabeth (Elizabeth after my middle name.)

If we one day have a 4th child, I'm really into Henry for a boy (though this will prob. change in a few years) and I like Victoria atm for a girl name, but I know my husband's not crazy about Victoria because he can't stand the nickname Vicky. (Sorry if I offended any Vickys out there.) Plus, my real life name starts with a V, and the minister at our wedding accidentally called me Victoria instead of my real name! So a lot of history with Victoria, lol.

Also, I'd probably want to stick with N ending on names, but not sure if I'd just want to shake it up for a 4th one, if we have one.

I quickly realised my DH has the WORST taste in names ever, seriously EVER, so basically I draw up a shortlist of names I want, he reads through and says which ones he likes best, then I convince him to choose the one I like best LOL :D
