I would call your midwife and get yourself checked out - from what i know they check to make sure you are immune (most women are from previous infection but not all) if you are not i think they can possible give you something but either way they will just keep a closer eye on you
Don't panic especially if you have had it before but pregnant women are at risk up to 12 weeks but mostly after 28 weeks (as baby could be born with it or contract a dormant version of it) so its best to get checked, most pregnant women even if they do catch chicken pox are fine and so are there babies
Thanks for the advise
My 2 y.o. came out in spots after chicken pox vaccine when I was about 8 wks pregnant. I am immune to it, but tried to be extra careful, who knows what it can do to an unborn baby who isn't immune. Luckily it turned out to be just a rash, what a coincidence! Try not to worry too much, but call your dr. and get yoursel checked for immunity.
I would call your Doc ASAP. Wear gloves for all contact. I am a nurse & have been told to avoid any patients with chickenpox.
My understanding is, if you've had it, your baby will get the immunity through you until they're old enough to handle it on their own. The risk comes in if you were immunized (they are not 100%) or if what you thought was chicken pox once upon a time, was actually something different. and PT that you don't contract it.
Sorry it's a bit off topic but I didn't even realise there was a chicken pox vaccine! Here in the uk we don't vaccinate against it.
as far as i know they do use it in the UK but only if there is a need - compromised immune system etc but no its not routinely used
I also know that if you get chicken pox as a baby or a very young child, there won't be enough antibodies in your system to make you immune to it.
I'm 11wks pg and DS just got the chicken pox vaccine today. Should I see a doctor about my immunity? Thanks!
