O+12 help?

Hi everyone I am new here and wondering if someone can help.

My husband and I have decided we would like to try for another baby and are hoping for a girl to complete our family. So many women seem to have success with this timing and achieving a daughter but I don't understand the logic behind it?? If male sperm are quicker than how does the O+12 method favour girls? Surely as the window of opportunity is so small after ovulation that male sperm would win out every time??? I realise I probably sound stupid to everyone now but I just don't understand it.

I'm on my phone so I can't post links but there are several essays and sticky posts that can answer your questions and concerns. Basically sperm live the same amount of time and swim the same speed. O+12 is nearly impossible to get pg from if its your only attempt because sperm need time to for capitization and the egg only has so many hours to live after ovulation. I did o+12 with my dd and got pregnant the 2. month trying. I was 35 and as you see it is definitely possible. I agree on all atomic says but I don't agree with her views on o+12 (sorry, atomic:wink:)
I think o+12 is a great sway and it is easier than you think! I am planning my second sway right now. If it fails I may change my view :worry:

I agree kirstea, if you believe in traditional sway tactics, O+12 makes no sense whatsoever because just as you say, if Y is faster, then O+12 would sway blue. The idea is that there is some hormonal thing happening and/or pH, but the pH stuff makes absolutely no sense either.

I personally think O+12 doesn't sway in any reliable way, and makes it difficult to impossible to get pg - if you spend any time hanging around sway sites it soon becomes apparent that even the most expert ov. trackers can't pinpoint their ovulation and there are people who are having EWCM for days after ovulation. I had EWCM for 2 days after I ovulated the month I conceived DD and if I had hung around waiting for my CM to turn creamy or whatever, I would not have her today.

I think the reason why O+12 even seems to sway is that one attempt sways pink and people who do O+12, are more inclined to do one attempt and a stricter sway overall.

Unless you had your ovulation confirmed by ultrasound, then you don't know that you did. You think that you did and you may very well be totally right. That's fine and I'm glad you got your DD. It's your sway and your option. But it's my job to try and look out for everyone and above all else, get people pregnant, because if people don't get pg, they have no chance at their DG. O+12 is not easy for many people, and it's not possible for many people to get pg that way.

The reason I am so down on O+12 is because when I was swaying for DS 4 I was with a very nice group of women over 35 in the Mature Mamas group and they were ALL doing O+12 except for me. None of them got pg with O+12 and they were told again and again that it was possible because so and so did it (when the fact is that we have no way of knowing when people ovulated, it's biologically impossible to know that without an ultrasound).

They went months and even years getting BFN and then some took an inability to get pg with O+12 as a sign that they were infertile. They gave up and went HT which also didn't work because the longer you postpone HT, the lower your odds of success. They basically erased years out of their limited fertile window because of O+12, if they had just gotten pg in the first place with swaying at least SOME of them would have gotten their DG just from statistics alone. Several of these women still do not have babies today and went thru numerous miscarriages along the way.

Things look very different from the other side of 35. Even tho they say over 35 is AMA, the truth is that at 35 you still have time to play around with sway tactics. But if you are 37, 38, 39, O+12 is just a really really bad idea because none of us ever know when it's the last fresh egg in the carton. I didn't do O+12 with DS 4 and yep, I got a boy. But because I got pg right away, I had the luxury of time (not MUCH time, but still) to try again and ended up sneaking in just under the wire with DD in my very last month that I was going to try. If I had wasted even a month with DS 4 trying O+12, it is entirely possible I'd never have had my DD.

So, I have to be a hardass on this, I'm sorry! :S

If you are 35 and under and would like to play around a little bit with O+12, by far the best and easiest way to do it is to have intercourse once, 48 hours after pos OPK. Don't waste precious months charting your cycle and making flow charts of your CM, because once you start diet and supps and jellies, all that is going to change anyway and it's totally irrelevant. People were charting their cycles for !!!!! 6 months !!!! before even starting to TTC on IG and that is completely ridiculous and a waste of your limited fertile window.

If you are much over 35, I really just don't recommend O+12 at all for the reasons I already said.

I am 38 now and things might be different from being 35. I 'll give it a try for a couple of months and will switch to dtd at + opk if I don't get pregnant. I will keep you posted! I really believe in the one attempt theory that makes totally sense!
If this sway turns out to be a boy I blame it one my bad diet. This LE is making me crazy and I am cheating to much....

Thank you for your replies and input I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't see the logic in it. I think I'll go down the diet/ph route instead as that looks slightly more favourable than relying on timing alone. As you say you don't know EXACTLY when you ovulate so its going to be hard to employ the O+12 method!
