I've been needing empty calories and a bit of protein , so I've been eating a ton of gummy bears, worms - you name it ;) they're actually a good protein fix, surprisingly! is this a bad idea since they are mostly gelatin, though?

I'm thinking as long as you are within limits they would be okay, but since it is a "boy" food that might be different?? Hopefully Atomic will be able to chime in. I know I ate a lot of jello for empty calories and that has quite a bit of gelatin.
The blue swayers have to drink A LOT of gelatin and even then it's not totally clear if it's doing anything. I think they're ok in moderation. They do have ones without gelatin, I think they're pectin based.
My concern is more that you're calling it "protein". Gummy bears aren't food and a diet where you're getting a bulk of your protein from gummy bears, that's not a healthy pre-pregnancy diet.

Ok great! I occasionally get people who are doing nutty things (like eat nothing but gummy bears) so I just had to make sure! :)
