One attempt/Shettles

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but do you think the reason that Shettles seems to work for so many people (lots of my friends too) is because they realistically only had one attempt in their fertile window by aiming for dtd a few days before ovulation?
I know it doesn't work out that way for everyone and I know you had "Shettles opposites" atomic. But so many people that I know have had girls this way and I'm wondering if all it comes down to is because they had the one attempt by aiming away from ov!

Possibly but I still think diet is the bigger part. DS4 was definitely a 1 attempt baby and in the beginning I was convinced he was a girl b/c it was seemingly perfect Shettles timing (it was the only sway tactic I knew at the time, not that we tried, it just happened that way). My diet was all blue though so now that I know more, I see that I almost guaranteed myself a gaggle of boys :)
I would bet that a lot of the people you know where Shettles worked to get a girl also had a very girl-friendly lifestyle/diet. It would be nice though if that were the magic bullet!

Yes, that is what I believe. I always thought that - since Shettles did seem to get good results in his studies, yet timing was debunked and/or not confirmed by other researchers, I thought there had to be something in Shettles' methodology that swayed. I started off thinking it was frequency - abstain vs. reg. release - but our data did not support that and over time we found it was really number of attempts that were swaying!

Honestly, despite this, I know very few people who got their desired gender with Shettles. People tell me all the time about the boy that was supposed to be a girl and vice versa. Most of the people who were doing Shettles for blue did not get pregnant. So there is also something to consider in that people who are able to get pregnant with Shettles are in a small minority anyway.

I have been thinking about this a lot to lately. I have become pregnant with a girl twice (at least my Panorama says it is a girl I am carrying right now so I truly hope it is accurate!) and both those times has been typically Shettles timing. First time bd 3 days before o, and this time 5 days before. Both were "oops"-pregnancies as well, and also a one attempt, witch could be the magic.

My three sons have all been very planned and with the third one I was swaying with LE-diet and as many of the other factors as I could.

Diet and lifestyle have been very boy-friendly this time, so I was really not expecting to hear girl. Last time I was doing all I could to sway, so it confused me a bit that now, so easily, it just happened.

Even under ideal circumstances, swaying will yield opposites at least 25% of the time. We do believe strongly that the oopsies are more often girls. Those of us who are "boy moms" tend to be very worked up and anxious and sometimes going full out with a sway can inadvertently sway blue for us, it may be why our planned pregnancies are often boys is because we have this type of "planner" personality that tends to sway blue.

Huge congrats!! Do PLEASE post a sway, because it is this kind of "surprise" sway that tells us more about what is REALLY working than the sways where everyone does the exact same thing!! :)

Exactly, I've heard a lot of times that "boys are 'made' - girls are 'gotten'". Not sure if the meaning comes out as clear as in my language but anyhow there seems to be something girly about the surprises.

Of course I'll post a sway if that can be useful for anyone! Only thing I am nervous that the NIPT shows wrong! :nails: Maybe wait till scan to get it confirmed?

Im the same shettles timing for a girl worked for me and I did so much research before attempting it asking everyone where I worked if they had tried anything to get their girls. All said shettles. So I find it hard to believe shettles doesnt work.

Having said that I can believe it being the one attempt thing instead but definitely something about the timing/frequency is working and important in my opinion.

The person who gave me the shettles book had three boys and then had her girl using only shettles.

Diet wise I was eating a very high sugar diet of cakes sweets lollies and a TON of coke zero, had been at my heaviest weight slowly putting on weight after having previously lost heaps for my wedding a year before.

Its really to me only the timing thing I think worked for me and I have done so much reading before deciding if I ever want a second because I really would want another girl.

NIPT are by far more reliable than scans. :agree:

That's because people have HEARD of Shettles. So they mention it. You have no way of knowing if any of those people even actually DID Shettles or they just thought they did. It's the same with all the sites online. The reason they all agree is because they're all taking Shettles on faith. Not because they have all independently investigated it and come to the same conclusion as Shettles did originally.

Studies over the past 50 years have either actively debunked Shettles or been unable to confirm it. Dozens of studies done using modern technology by far better than Shettles had. A study that is not repeatable by other researchers, using better, more accurate, and more reliable science and technology, cannot be right.

Most of us on here have many plural Shettles opposites. I have 4. The lady who told me about Shettles also had 3 boys and claimed to have a girl from Shettles. But I got my 3rd boy with Shettles (despite knowing I had gotten my other two with BD before I ovulated) and my girl is ALSO a Shettles opposite. I mention this not to try and talk anyone OUT of doing Shettles if they want to (because I do tolerate Shettles for anyone who wishes to use it) but to get you guys thinking outside the Shettles box towards the things that are actually working. One attempt works and has gotten good results for us, so if you ahve that one attempt 2 or 3 days before O, you may think you got a girl for that reason when you didn't.

A high sugar diet with diet drinks is the type of diet I see again and again with girl moms. Weight loss or gain has NOT been highly predictive of who gets girls or boys.

it is YOUR sway, your way. your choice. I just want everyone to have the facts of the matter before they decide what to do, because as very many of us will testify, Shettles did not work for us!!
