Avoiding wheatflour (doing alternate diet) so wondered what opinions were on gluten free breads etc. These are made with a mixture of other wholegrain flours (rice, corn, sorghum, potato etc). Are these a good idea or a really bad one?

For PCOS the gluten free breads are unfortunately not very helpful as they are often super carby.
Ah ok. I’ll go back to wholemeal tortillas then. Somebody really needs to invent a whole catalogue of pcos friendly products!
I’ve been advised by my nutritionist that rye flour is one of the best options for grain products if you have blood sugar issues. I don’t recall the reasoning for it, but I can say that with tracking my blood sugars I don’t get a big spike after eating rye bread and my levels go down pretty quickly versus other grains. I do not have PCOS, but I have some damage to my pancreas and labs show I’m trending toward becoming a type 1 diabetic at some point in the future so I try to be mindful of my levels.
I do not know about the alternate diet and what is allowed, but I have celiacs and thought I'd bring this brand up if it meets your needs.
I rarely have bread, but when I do I eat Against the Grain breads. They are naturally gluten free and made from Tapioca starch, eggs, and milk.

It's not great sandwich bread, more for dinner rolls. It has it's own unique taste. It's not like Udis or other popular GF breads trying to taste like regular bread, it's meant to taste a bit different.

Thanks for both suggestions of rye and for the against the grain stuff. I’m now on rye instead of whole meal - I’d actually forgotten about rye (and spelt flour too) being better for blood sugar.

I have heard that buckwheat is really good for getting pregnant with PCOS. I can't say whether it worked or not because I made a half assed attempt only eating bits of it a few times a week, then gave up because I didn't care for the taste.
I have Celiac too and have found a lot of the GF bread products are mostly made from white rice or other overly processed grains. However I found Canyon Bakehouse makes some whole grain GF breads. I love the heritage style whole grain one as it's a very hearty bread, big slices, and it's made only with whole grains like brown rice, sorghum, and millet. I've tried the Against the Grain breads and didn't care for them. I think it's because it mostly tastes like I'm just eating mozzarella which doesn't appeal to me. I know a lot of people like it though. Just FYI since every once in awhile we get someone here that is gluten free!Quote:
