TTC questions from the elderly, ha!

I have spent many a hours on this website lately, gathering all the information...what a great resource this is!

So I am 38 and my husband is 41 and we will be trying for our second baby starting this month (hopefully a girl)! I started Letrozole this month for the first time as well. So here are my questions:

1) We BD mid last week (with a condom) because I read several of the posts that talked about abstaining not being a good idea for the older guys due to increased genetic issues. And the week before that, he also released on his own. I will be ovulating sometime in the next few days (I already have EWCM, but have not gotten a + on my ovulation kit). Today is day 10. Should he be ok to wait until I ovulate or should he release once more before we do the real deal BD?

2) Is there anything else we can do at this point (aka last minute) to help the chances of a girl? I skip breakfast regularly, feel like my diet is somewhat in line with LE, and on folic acid (but have not started prenatals yet). When I get to reading different posts about the different supplements and things to do, my head starts spinning somewhat. Atomic, can you recommend any clear cut things for me to do at this point (or if there is a post outlining clear cut DOs, please direct me to it)?

I'd have you have him release once more just to be on the safest side.

Don't worry about any other supplements, they interact iwth the letrozole and don't work anyway. Some people add in fiber but I see no point in doing that now, too late in the game.

You're already doing the best thing - letorozole. None of the last minute things work realy and they all cut odds of conception. I would have you keep doing what you've been doing and go for one attempt with letrozole the first month or two and then gradually we can add in attempts to boost odds of conception.

So, this morning I got a + opk and he didn't get home until early evening. So, we BD around 7:30 pm (with a condom to release as you said) and then went for the real deal around 11:30 pm. My opk was still very much positive right before this.

Does the fact that he released twice in a matter of hours (and used the second time for insemination) mean that it will probably be a wasted month if I only use that one attempt? I guess what I'm trying to say is is there a decent chance that using that second release could result in a pregnancy?

I'm trying to decide if I should add in another attempt and wanted to get your opinion.

Yeah, if I'd known you were going to do that, I would have surely stopped you because that really cuts odds of conception. I was going off your statement "I will ovulate in the next few days" and "We released last week" to try and prevent you from havint a long abstain for sperm health. I did not want you to go 5+ days without having him clear the pipes. I did not want you to have a hurry up FR where you dump the first batch and use only the second. Never intended for you to do that and I apologize for being less than clear.

But, here we are, so now what do we do? Because you're on Letrozole, there is really only one choice - you need to attempt again. Ordinarily if letrozole was not in the mix, starting off the first month I'd have very likely had you hold with that hurry up attempt just to see if you could get pregnant that way, but with the Letrozole we can't be effectively wasting months and I suspect that very likely did not have enough sperm in it to conceive with. If at all possible have another attempt at your earliest opportunity.

I guess I got a positive on the opk a little sooner than I thought.
We tried a little while ago and he just couldn't after twice last night (not to mention it not being the most organic BD situation and therefore, probably not that enticing, haha)...so I guess we are going with the one attempt. I'm having O pains now so not sure if trying tonight would be pointless or not (please let me know if I should!). I feel like I totally messed this month up, but hopefully I'll do better next month. Or maybe by a miracle the attempt last night worked.

I would still BD just in case O is delayed. O pains are not always predictive of when you'll ovulate, you can have them before, during, and after O. So do go ahead and have an attempt if you hadn't already. FXFXFX!
