BMI, weight loss and ttcgirly

Just some "food" (or lack thereof) for thought...

Have been reading some articles regarding sex ratio and BMI and also articles about infertility and BMI.

To summarize, women with slightly below normal weight actually are the most likely to ovulate regulary. Women with normal weights - BMI 20-24.9 were sort of the gold standard but those with a BMI of 17-19.9 were found to be the least likely to fail to ovulate. If you go lower than 17, your risk of failing to ovulate goes up quite a bit.

In studies that look at sex ratio, summerized, women with a BMI less than 18.5 were significantly more likely to have girls. With a BMI of 18.5-20, they were also more likely to have girls but not as strong of a difference.

Seems like the "sweet spot" might be a BMI right around 18.5 although that is probably difficult to achieve! I have lost 6 lbs so far on the diet and my BMI is now 20.4. I would have to lose another 12 pounds to get there! I havent weighed that little since probably the start of high school!!

I am overweight with a BMI of 30. I'm trying to lose weight now just to be in the act of losing weight for TTC a girl...hope I'm not totally screwed and won't get a girl cuz I'm the heaviest I've ever been :((

If I had gotten pregnant during my early 20s, I would've had a girl prob, ate crappy, very little, was really thin and just lived off of milk essentially, haha.

Well, there are lots of thin ladies who have boys so all you can do is work on it! I think the very act of losing weight can shock your body into giving you a girl! I dont think you have to be tiny to get a girl. I guess my post was more aimed at those who wish they could lose more but fear they will stop ovulating if they lose too much. The great part about having more to lose is that you can shock your body by doing it!!

Auroara, it's tricky because women who are very heavy also seem to have more girls as well. Some of them I know for a fact decide to get pg and go onto crash diets and then conceive, so your plan may be a good idea. http://genderdreaming.com/forum/show...irls-(and-boys

All I know is working out every day lately and eating less calories is making me grumpy bear and making my body act differently...so hopefully this is good :) Thanks Atomic for reassurance! I am typically a really postive happy person, but this cutting out chocolate and trying to go lower calorie is really bringing me down, lol. I guess I relied on chocolate more than I thought to fix my "moods."
