Atomic, would love your advice on a timing question! :)

Hi Atomic, long time lurker first time poster :) Love reading your posts, there is a lot of info out there in the world of swaying and you always manage to make it all make sense! Anwyay, would love some input with a timing question...

After much reading and 2 failed attempts to fall pg with a cutoff, I have decided to join the "I don't believe in timing bandwagon" and DH and I are now contemplating for our next attempt (in Feb) to BD through O. Questions I have are:
- Does DH still need to abstain for this, and if so for how long?
- DO we opt instead for frequent release?
- When do we start officially trying 3 days before O? Or if TTC a girl is the aim to BD AF to O?
- If there is frequent BDing I am aware that this may raise pH, what is your advice on keeping pH on the lower side?
- From last attempts I found that with diet etc I could get my pH 4-4.5 prior to attempt but it always seems to spike around O time up to around 7... eeek! Any suggestions here?

Background info on us, we will both be 35 at time of our attempt, DH soon to be 36. We were on the IG diet for 8 weeks prior to Christmas but took 3 weeks off over the festive season to restore my sanity!! Am now on a different girl diet that I have seen have good results from other swayers and will have been on that for approx 7 weeks prior to first attempt.

Would love love love any advice from you :) I know you are a busy woman and don't know how you do it, expecially with 4 kids! Thanks in advance.

not Atomic, obviously! but have a few thoughts:

abstain probably comes down to how many attempts you want and when you plan to start your first attempt around OV
and whether or not you abstain will help determine your first attempt too. If you're abstaining, you'll probably want to DTD at the latest of O-2, and then perhaps compressed FR prior to the next couple of attempts.

you could do abstain and attempt at O-2, then release/discard the next batch, and then DTD daily at O-1 and O... O+1 too if you fancy it

or you could do traditional FR and release and discard or BD every day from the end of AF up until O+1. You could release and discard some of these to keep pH lower, or use them as attempts.

or you could abstain and wait until a pos OPK, or wait until the pos OPK and then do compressed FR (release and discard the first one or two, then attempt within 12hrs after that)

or if using a fertility monitor you could wait until that (or fertile CM/high cervix) show fertility is near and then either do a compressed FR to start and then traditional FR through OV

yes, frequent BD can raise pH, but you can lower it with douches/RepHresh. RepHresh might be easiest as that will keep on working for 3 days.

It's normal for pH to go up at ovulation - that's not necessarily a bad thing at all. If you are able to lower sperm count/quality a bit by doing either abstain or frequent, the EWCM may even help you conceive a girl. Have you tried antihistamine (will dry up alkaline CM) RepHresh (will lower pH of everything it comes into contact with for up to 3 days after use) or both?

Thankyou SO much to rainbowflower and atomic for getting back to me, I really appreciate it. Will have a good look through and decide which approach to go for... last time around we tried abstinence, however I am still procratinating on doing this again as a) it made DH very grumpy and lets face it this it not a great way to get in the mood for some baby making! And b) the age factor. Also some concerns about the risks associated with it.

Thanks to both of you for explaining things in such an easy to follow straight-forward way. Now just need to read and re-read and decide from here.... decisions, decisions!
