Benadryl Question?
Hi Ladies,
I read the info on using antistamines when ttc and on it is says Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or Zyrtec (cetirizine) to dry up mucus etc but the Benadryl i picked up are cetirizine and not the ingredient it says above for benadryl.
Are the ones i got ok to take? They are the one a day relief.
Each tablet contains: Cetirizine dihydrochloride 10mg and also contains lactose.
Thanks Leanne

Certirizine dihydrochloride is the generic form of Zyrtec in the UK.
Diphenhydramine is the generic form of Benadryl.

Thanks Fresas!
So as the ingredient in the Benadryl i picked up is the same as zyrtec so i assume it will be just same as taking that then and will be ok!
I was originally looking for zyrtec and went to all supermarkets in UK like Sainsburys, ASDA, Tesco and also Boots and couldnt find it anywhere so picked up the Benadryl instead.

I've bought it in tesco it's Spelt zirtek here in the uk.cetirizine hydrochloride.FYI it works a treat for me.GL

The Benadryl you have is fine but if you buy Zyrtek as well (they do it in Tesco!) obviously don't take both together as they're the same thing! I bought a product online called Sleep Aid (or Night Aid - I forget!) which has the same ingredient as Benadryl in the US and I took that with Zyrtek.

Thank you ladies, i will go check in tesco's again, maybe they just didnt have it in stock when i went. I will also look into the sleep/night aid x

Yes, I'm sorry but in some other countries Benadryl is cetirizine. i should be better about clarifying that but I can never keep straight what is what in each country so I tend to just defer to what is stuck in my brain. :p
The stuff you got is just right and I think the cetirizine works better anyway. Take one a day, at least 6 hours before an attempt (cetirizine takes a little while to get rolling.)

Thanks Atomic your a star xx

That is really strange that certirizine is marketed as equal to diphenhydramine. Their chemical structures and the way they work in the body are different even though they're both antihistamines.
(certirizen) dihydrochloride is not the same as diphenhydramine. Curious.
