Stickied! :)
My staple breakfast lately: 1/2 cup cottage cheese, sliced strawberries and blueberries, a sprinkling of cinnamon. 1/2 piece of string cheese. Decaf (or sometimes caff) coffee with powdered non dairy creamer. Total: 180-200cals (depending on how much creamer) and 17 grams protein. There are some carbs from the fruit but I don't really bother to count that.
I always do my cardio in the morning, and I'm on Metformin so I can't do 100% protein with no carbs or I get hypoglycemic during the workout, which feels awful!
The other two meals I usually change it up, always carb/protein/veg and trying to incorporate full fat dairy for fertility. So today:
Lunch - udon noodle soup with a poached egg, shrimp, zucchini, broccoli, green onions and ginger for flavour. Seaweed salad. 100g fresh pineapple. For dessert - 1/2 glass milk with homemade cookies. Total - 600 cals.
Mid afternoon - Diet gingerale with Metamucil.
Dinner - schnitzel pork chops, white rice, asparagus with hollandaise. 500 cals.
Dessert - ice cream and homemade goodies, 200 cals.
Today:
11am: Smoothie: 1 full fat yogurt, 1 can coconut water, 1 banana, 2 c strawberries
2pm: Bruschetta (Roma tomato, squirt basil paste, 1T oil, drizzle Balsamic) on 2 slices whole grain bread toasted with 2oz melted cheese and diet cherry coke
6pm: 2c stir fry veggies, 4 chick nug sized pieces of chicken, stir fry sauce (1/4c oj, 1T cornstarch, 1t soy sauce) cooked in 1T canola oil and served with 1c brown rice and more diet cherry coke
I'm starving today and I did my 60 mins of cardio last night! I am very pleased with myself, lol! :)
thanks gals!
Lace can I ask what dosage of metaformin you are taking.
Thank you
Thanks lace. Is that a special brand you were prescribed
I linked the info thread for PCOS swayers above on the original post!
I won't be starting the LE until probably June. As of Jan first I am vegetarian!
I do have a question about metformin though. Long story short, I was on metformin from 6 months prior to conceiving DS 1 all the way through until I was in my second trimester with DS 2. When I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 18 I had high insulin and testosterone levels and I was very thin.
Fast forward to now and I'm at my heaviest adult non pregnant weight (already working on losing weight!). My endocrinologist (for hypothyroidism/PCOS) checks labs frequently and even though I've been off metformin for over 3 years now, my insulin and testosterone levels are normal-low! I haven't really had the PCOS symptoms since my last pregnancy!
I've tried getting back on metformin 4 times since then and every time I get up to 1000 mg (my old dose was 2000 mg) I start having extreme GI upset and vomiting.
So ...... I don't know what to do! My labs really show I don't need it... but I know it sways girl.YKWIM?!
I have heard that pregnancy can sometimes "re-set" your hormones and reverse PCOS. Ideas or recommendations for me?
luvmyfam, I don't have much experience with dealing with PCOS. I'm not, as far as I know, actually PCOS. I just have some PCO tendencies and my pretesting came back with indications of IR so the Met is more of a precautionary thing for me. I also have family history of diabetes and IR, but not PCOS to my knowledge. I've never been anovulatory, had any odd hair growth, or other high testosterone symptoms. Mostly it seems my issues is more IR related and Met is a diabetes drug.
I had to titrate up really slowly to get to 1500mg, something like 3 weeks, and was sick as a dog for a few weeks. But after suffering through that I tolerate my dose very well now.
Maybe if you can't get above 1000mg you should just take what you can tolerate? Especially as you aren't really needing the Met, even a lower dose would help sway pink for you. Though there's no point in forcing the issue and it's excellent news that your labs all look good!
So, just wondering how you guys are keeping track of how much fat and protein you are eating?
I'm not really tracking them. I sometimes do an estimate of protein just to make sure I'm getting enough. I don't eat much meat these days, most of my protein are eggs and dairy and it's easy enough to get the numbers off the packaging.
If I want to track meat I weigh my food and use a site like caloriecount.com to look up the exact nutrition.
I never bother to track fat, it's so high cal that just tracking cals is enough to keep the fats reasonable. I think if you really want to track everything a site like myfitnesspal is probably your best bet.
I made a couple meal plans where I already figured everything out. That way I don't have to think about it (aka obsess over it, lol!) Here it is: Attachment 23198
I know, I'm trying not to get overly obsessive about stuff. Is just so hard! Are you two taking vitex or saw palmetto?
I've never taken SP. I tried Vitex when I was TTC back in late 2012 (ended up getting a bfp but had a m/c and took a long break after). I don't feel that Vitex really helped balance my cycle, I just found it confusing.
So I think if I go back to ttc naturally I'll skip all of that, I prefer working with my natural hormone balance.
I am not currently taking either. My RE wants to do clomid because I ovulate late in my cycle. So, I'm waiting for atomic to update my sway plan to see what she wants me to do. I didn't want to start either of them without seeing what she has to say about everything. Since I couldn't schedule my tubal reversal until the end of Feb, it pushes back our first attempt to the end of April/beginning of May. I am crossing my fingers that my cycles shorten up a bit because we're planning a trip to AZ at the end of May for my nieces graduation. As it stands right now, I'd get my BFP (if I get preggo the first cycle) while we're on the trip. That would make things difficult because I have to get blood work done as soon as I miss a period to ensure implantation is in the uterus and not the tube (tubal pregnancies are super common after a reversal). I also have to get an ultrasound really quickly too just to verify everything. I've been considering taking the Vitex just to see if it will shorten my cycles a bit (usually 32-34 days long).
I started taking Vitex in the beginning of December. Prior to that I had 2 cycles that were 45 days. My last cycle was 27 days! I don't know about this one because I'm on CD 23 now. I would like to incorporate SP closer to sway time.
On another note, my vegetarian diet is going well. And hubby has been very supportive. Now if only I could him to slow down on his meat eater diet!
Today:
11am: Smoothie - same strawberry & banana as always. I love it!
2pm: homemade bruschetta on 2 slices of whole grain toast with 2oz mozzarella cheese, purple grape juice and a brownie. ;)
For dinner I am making chicken tacos in the slow cooker. They smell delicious! I am also looking forward to my Dr. Pepper. HAHA!
Your day sounded delicious! How do you make your smoothie?
Thanks! :) I use 1 cup of full fat vanilla yogurt, 1 can coconut water, 1 banana, and 2 c strawberries. I just plop it all in my blender and let it go until it's smooth. It's really, really good!!
Yummo!
Today:
10:30am Smoothie
2:00pm 4 chicken nuggets, 1T ranch, 1/2c brown rice, 1T butter, 1c green beans and a box of raisins plus grape juice
6:30pm 2 egg omelet with orange peppers, green onions, and 1oz cheese, 2 slices WG bread and an apple plus a dr. pepper
I have lost 4.5 lbs over the last 3 weeks which is pretty amazing to me! It is extremely difficult for me to lose weight, so this is completely amazeballs. Who knew you could drink Dr. Pepper every day and still lose weight?! Not me!!
That's awesome!
just wanted to mention it is impossible for me to keep up with support threads, so if you guys have any specific q's, start a thread and ask! :)
I haven't posted on here in a while! Just wondering if anyone is currently doing PCOS LE? I'm really starting now! Definitely could use some support!
I know there are several out there - sound off!! :)
I'm sort of doing it luvmyfam but I'm not sure if what I'm doing is 100% right all the time as find it hard to keep track of levels of home cooked things. I'm basically just trying to keep everything low, have really cut out sugary snacks and am eating more brown carbs.
Do you have pcos?
My bloods all came back within range but I have traits of higher testosterone like bad skin so that's why I decided to go on the pcos version.
So today I had brown pasta with reduced fat pesto and peas for lunch and vegetable curry in a baked potato for tea
What kind of meals are you planning?
I'm also having a hard time keeping track of the totals. I've been eating vegetarian but I think I'll add in a few shrimp every now and then. So mostly I'm eating salads, green beans, cabbage, carrots, cucumber, fruits, brown carbs. Is hard to call it "meals" because it mostly feels like I'm eating a bunch of sides lol. Its going to be so hard to not ready meat and nuts. I have to work tonight so I'm probably going to take green beans and yogurt and maybe have a salad. I'm sticking to 1200-1300 cals a day right now.
Are you taking fiber? I'm taking psyllium husk fiber now 2 times a day with meals. I think I want to try chitosan though because a can't stand drinking that stuff!
You sound like you are doing so well with the diet. I'm still eating meat once a day but try to substitute for prawns often. Completely cut red meat though.
I too am aiming for about 1200 cals.
Where abouts are you in your cycle? I'm due to O on saturday. Trying to keep blood sugars low
Are you TTC this cycle? If so good luck and pink dust! I am expecting AF in a few days. I won't have my first attempt until October.
Yes we dtd today and will again on Sunday so will be 2x attempts. A but nervous about this!
Ok so I need advice. I just tested and got a positive opk this morning! We dtd yesterday 26th and twice on 24th (only because I thought this would be out of highly fertile period). Should I still bd on Sunday or should I class yesterday as my one attempt and bd in another 3 days (monday) ?
I usually o on cd 20 and I'm only cd 18 today
I personally would BD in 3 days. So exciting! Good luck!!
Thank you! :)
#1 jel that you both seem to have dependable cycles.... pcos frequently means lack of o and long irratic cycles. add in trying to sway pink when the typical lots of processed carbs and minimum protein to sustain an adult will not help a pcos ovulate so they have to be "sneaky" about swaying and yeah so jel
i tried experimenting with doing the afd not the le pcos to avoid wheat but after 5 days without wheat i had a milkshake and lots of time dispelling that....tmi i know...so i'm thinking small amounts of wheat are ok to avoid that again.
glad to see this thread active again
Hi skillet! Sorry to hear about your cycles. Mine aren't extremely regular (31-40 days usually) but from time to time I will have a long anovulatory cycle. I actually conceived DS 2 on a crazy cycle- I ovulated around CD 45!
I've been on metformin off and on since before I conceived DS 1 and that definitely helps. Oddly enough though, ever since I had DS 2, my allergies have been really bad and I've noticed that when I'm taking allergy medicine regularly throughout a cycle, I'm more regular!
I have only been eating a small amount of brown carbs but I'm getting most of my carbs from fruits.
I really hope you can get your diet and cycles sorted out and be on your way to TTC your girl!
Interesting about the allergies Allergies, Hay Fever, and Asthma may be linked to PCOS
