I would gp on direct gov uk and look at every school within ten miles of you and get your name on their waiting list asap. You can then pick and choose as places come up. Apeals at this age are very hard to win. There is a lot of movment in the waiting lists so make sure you are on the list for all three of your choices. I went to appeal and only one out of 15 won as her dd was under a child protection act. Let me know if you need any advice, but seriously get on the phone now to get on waiting lists (if your council works like ours - I hope) aslo I am on the border of three counties so I applied across all three.
