Due June/July/August 2017 (2)

Girlie I keep thinking what do I have to do around the house like install doors or power wash (and by me I mean my husband). But not one of the items is "bring possible expired car seat out of storage" or "buy diapers". I told my therapist today and she said yup the nesting is probably not happening for you. Oh well the good news is a baby can survive coming home from the hospital in a blanket and borrowed diapers if needed. I still have way too much time though so I'm sure sometime in July I'll get moving.

Do you think the nesting drive is an old wives tale? I am not feeling anything like that...although we are having a heat wave here so that could be it

Babs you had me laughing with the poor baby 3 comment. I have definitely had nesting but to be fair I love to clean and do that not pregnant. My problem was I wanted to do everything except baby related cleaning. I did just finish cleaning babies room Saturday and only put together some of her baby gear (like bedside sleeper) yesterday.

AFM- 3am must be important to my uterus because contractions started again this morning. Further apart this time at about every 15 minutes for the last 2 hours (it is 5:30am right now). We shall see if this continues or stops like yesterday. I am packing my hospital bag now just in case- nothing like waiting till the last second to do it. [emoji51]

This is amazing, I feel like I've followed all these stories for son long, and it felt like forever to get to everyones first scans.
Now you're having contractions, Baby Isobel has already been born, and all the rest of us are ready to pop too.

I am the same though, I've packed a couple of bags.
The babies room is just in disarray, but I finally got my husband to varnish the floors....I doubt I can get him to do anything else though lol

Ha ha my OH is NOT supportive but I think I could convince him in time. I would have to convince myself though. 4 kids is a game changer.

I did not nest with my first, at all. I did have depression that entire pregnancy but I never had the extra energy and prepping for baby was mildly interesting but there was no frenzy.

#2 I 100% did. I don't remember at what point but I vividly remember painting baseboards at 11pm during the week. I had everything organized and ready to go weeks before he arrived.

This one I just can't be bothered. Too much on my plate with work and home stuff and poor #2 has a birthday in 10 days. All these other things just seem more important. And energy is nonexistent. I hope that changes though.

Okay, I made a post yesterday but it still hasn't been approved yet for some reason, and it was pretty long ugh. Hope it didn't get eaten :( I'll just get to the point - my beautiful baby was born on his due date, June 11! He's a great sleeper and we are doing great! Of course I'm a future planner so now I'm already thinking about swaying/HT for pink haha. But I'm also enjoying my baby. I didn't expect there to be so much joy in these early days!

Mommy, thanks for sharing a photo with us. Wow, she is gorgeous. Hope is does not get sick like her brothers. She is probably well protected by your milk and a higher immune defence system.

Well our little girl was born today. Meet Hazel Raine. 7pounds3oz 20inch long.

I had an all natural no pain med delivery. It was brutal but I did it. She is healthy and so far a good breast feeder. Still can't believe this is real.

Awesome GirlieCat; so happy for you! I also had an all natural delivery but my doula says I seem to have super high pain tolerance so I wouldn't describe it as brutal at all. For me it was a good experience. Hope all goes well for you; enjoy her!

Question- how long did it take for your milk supply to come in? Anyone with PCOS find theirs took longer? I have almost nothing coming out now and doc ordered baby get supplemented with formula because she has lost more weight than normal. I am devastated because I didn't want to give formula but I am doing it for babies good but hoping to stop asap if my milk will just come in. Frustrating.

My milk came in on day 3 with both babies. My DS1 was heavily supplemented in the NICU and nursed without problems for 3 years. I would recommend pumping when you supplement.

3-5 days normally. Mine came in on day 3 with all 5 babies. Don't stress too much Girlie, just try to pump as much as you can as often as you can when supplementing until your milk supply is enough for Bub. You should be fine :)

I was catching up on what you have been experiencing with the NHS and I agree that on some aspects of healthcare it is 2nd to none but maternity really is one of those departments when so much comes down to the postcode lottery of where you live, or even the whim of the consultant you are assigned....

3 days for first baby but I had plenty of colostrum. So you have any? I know PCOS can make this more challenging. Is there a Lactation consultant available for you to see?

I have seen the lactation special more times than I can count. She came in my room multiple times while I was in the hospital. I had colostrum but pretty much dried up now. It has been exactly 4 days since birth.
I started pumping yesterday and haven't gotten more than a couple drops out. I am going to keep going at it today and see.
Anyone been put on Metformin to help milk supply? (I was on it to conceive too). Doc refilled my prescription yesterday. Not sure yet how I feel about taking it.
I cried when we saw how much weight baby lost- almost a pound in 38 hours from birth. And seeing nothing come out when pumping. I was starving her and had no clue. It has been an emotional 24 hours for me. Ugh.

Keep pumping, it helps. Establishing supply can be tricky, especially when you're supplementing. Remember breastfeeding doesn't have to be all or nothing, any amount of breast milk you can give is beneficial. If you're only getting a few drops pumping, I might try alternating pumping with hand expressing- the first few days my son got colostrum and milk by syringe in addition to nursing and formula supplements.

I gave birth to my daughter Yesterday. Labour was quick, all naturel and without any complications. It was a water birth and it took around 30 minutes. My little girl was 3700 gram and measuring 52 cm. We are all so happy and thankfull that everything went smooth and our girl is healthy. Congratulations Dreamsister! GirlieCat don't worry; you caught the issue quickly! Some people go much longer than that unintentionally starving their baby! It was one of my big worries.

We've also been seeing a ton of lactation consultants. I have oversupply, but Hunter has issues with latching. The latest consultant thinks he has a possible tight exterior frenulum and lip tie. She thinks it's mild and that's why using the nipple shield has been working enough to correct it. We will see the pediatric dentist for a consultation on Tuesday and possibly do the procedure on Friday. The grandparents are all super anxious about it ("maybe he'll grow out of it") but we're pretty sure it'll be the right thing to do to correct it so that I can feed without a nipple shield. The shield is annoying but more critically, it has also been known to sometimes lower supply so I'm pumping one time a day now to make sure to maintain supply which isn't ideal. Ideal is to feed without a shield and pump only when I want to.

Just chiming in for a moment. If you had a hospital birth and were hooked up to an IV, the baby will have extra weight on her which will drop rather quickly. The baby won't drop an entire pound in one day of muscle and fat. Also, remember that a newborn's stomach is the size of a marble so all she needs are a few drops, not ounces, of milk. One more thing is, you can't possibly pump big amount of milk so early on, it takes lots and lots of pumping sessions to even start to see a few ounces. I never was able to pump more than 2 ounces at a time and I had PCOS when DD was a newborn. This was also after months of trying by the way. Some women's breasts don't respond well to pumps and the output you get from a pump isn't equivalent to what a baby can get out with their mouth.

I would suggest hiring a private lactation consultant. We had a very rough, very painful 2 weeks and my DD barely got anything out of me due to a bad latch and my PCOS. She did lose weight, so I tell you from experience that weightloss due to not eating doesn't happen overnight. I finally hired a lactation consultant who came one time, latched her on properly, weighed her before and after and the rest is history, she BF'd for 2.5 years. The hospital lactation consultant had given us the green light before we left by the way.

Don't beat yourself up hun. You are doing your best. Keep latching her on and the milk will come. She doesn't need much right now, in spite of what you may have been told :)

Thank you all for the advice and support. I am taking it day by day. Most I have gotten in a single pumping session is just under an ounce both boobs combined. That is a lot though. Average is about half ounce or less. Baby has weigh in today so hopefully she will have gained a little with the supplemental.
