It's odd not to offer a nuchal, well it's odd for here. Mine is a real "industry", I have my bloods, go to a special USS place where they only do pregnant women, get scanned and then meet with the fetal medicine guy to discuss my overall "risk" based on age, bloods and scan. You're not necessarily going to pick up Down Syndrome at the 20 week scan if the heart etc is normal.
Even if you get an abnormal result and don't pursue it cos you wouldn't consider termination etc it's good to be aware of any potential problems earlier, I think.
hey sorry to hear of worries about the health of your bubba! if you just want the 16 week scan for gender i'd go for it and pretend you didn't realsie if they say anything and you can say to them i'm having an 18wk scan for this possiable condition so need to look at that xx
They offer a test that is just like the MaterniT2I but it doesn't give any gender results she said. But I do not qualify for the test under my insurance so she said it might cost $700! I'm not 35 yet, if I was 35 or older the insurance would more than likely cover it. I have never ever had this happen, with all my other pg they did it at 12 weeks. I guess I was hoping for a scan at 1st appt, 12 weeks, and 20 weeks like all my others. I think I will just call and reschedule, I have no reason to believe there is anything wrong right now, and I think it is actually more beneficial to have the scan later than sooner. I'm still bummed though!
Ugh the more I think about it, the more I am just not happy with this place. I might just start looking for a new OB. I know that my GP really wanted me to go to her, but she is a really young new dr and I told her I would just be sticking with my OB. I might give her a call and see what they have to offer. Has anyone ever switched DR's before, after going to the first appt? Has anyone ever used their family Dr instead of an OB?
I've had the same ob all four times I refused to be with any other ob... I think it's your desicion and you should put ur foot down to get what you want :) if your not happy then you shouldn't stay...
thorz i don't understand your system but if you're not happy change your care now while your early on and feeling like the battle xx
Not sure how that works... if you use your family Dr. is that who delivers the baby? If so I would say a big fat no to that:) You should switch if you aren't comfortable. I didn't switch with DS1 when I wish I would have. I knew after a couple of appointments that I didn't like her and she was insanely incompetent and I still stuck with her. This is how I look at it... I don't really care who does my appointments. Any yahoo can measure my belly and tell me how dilated I am. What I want is someone who is going to be there for the delivery because if things go wrong you want someone who knows what they are doing. If you don't like them then switch now... no big deal to switch now.
Well that is sort of the reason I want to switch, they say that more than likely my dr wont be the one to actually deliver my baby and that they can only guarantee that it will be one of their 6 docs at the office. I don't like that, all my docs have been the ones to do the deliveries with my other 3 kiddos!
That's how it is here to... I will get whatever dr is on call to deliver I have been lucky 2 out of three times to get mine but with ds3 I went into a crazy 30 min labour an hour before my dr was on call also an hour before ,y scheduled induction lol
I don't understand the system here either and I feel lost! I want to go back home to Utah and have this baby!! LOL this is my first baby in Ohio, so I just had to go through my insurance to find an OB I LOVED my DR for all my other babies! I really want to switch dr's but I don't know where to turn and feel like I'll just keep having the same problem. I don't want to bounce around to a bunch of different docs. I actually like the dr I am seeing, I just don't like the system the clinic has. As luck would have it, my poor baby seems to be coming down with something, so I have to cancel my scan for tomorrow anyway, I may just conveniently be un available for the next 3 weeks because of sick kids!!!!
How disappointing! Can you go to an independant place for your 12 week scan? Your doc should give you a referral if you ask for one. Its your right to know what is going on in your own pregnancy. And if you want to test for downs etc then you should be able to, even if your doc doesnt routinely do that. You still have time to sort it out, you have up until 13wks and 5 days to do the scan. If you do get your doc to refer you, make sure he also refers you for bloods to be taken in conjunction with the scan. They then use your maternal age, your bloodwork AND the scan NT measurment to put into a formula and it spits out a probability of risk. Hope that all makes sense. Just wanting to make sure that if he doesnt routinely do it, he knows what you need!! Good luck x x
Thank you, Scan is in a little over 2 hrs. Will update when I get back!! Still not sure if I'll ask for a nub shot.... Not sure I can cope with the obsessing! haha And we arent finding out at all for the whole pregnancy!!! So I think its just best to not have an image I can totally stress over for the next 6 months! haha we'll see x
Don't get one salsa! Lol I didn't want one but ended having one.... No obsessing today for me I am just taking the nub as a grain of salt so I don't set myself up for dissapointment.... I have my name picked for a boy and havnt looked at anything to do with a girl lol
How was your scan today Salsa?
Hi girls!! Sorry for such a late reply!! As soon as I had scan I had to pick up my 2 yr old from pre kindy, then off to swimming lessons with all the kids!!
Ahhhh scan went really well. Baby is perfect and so cute... I didnt want a nub but guess what???!!!!! I got one AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! let the obsessing begin lol!
I'll put it in the ultrasound section too but what do you all think??
I think its parallel to the spine even though it looks angled up, the spine is quite curled.
What do you reckon???
12wks and 4 days...

Very girly nub. I hope mine DOESN'T look like that.
I think that looks like a girly nub and skull! I'm no expert though!
Mine isn't until the 21st and I'll be 12 +3 but only just on 12 based on ovulation dates. So it might not be clear either way. In order of "degree of worry" I'm most concerned about :
1) the baby being healthy without any suggestion of chromosomal abnormalities (I'm 39).
2) having twins
3) the gender.
So if I'm only focused on obsessing about the nub in three weeks then things are going well.
Will you have a gender scan? I won't but my ob will likely see me between 12 and 20 weeks and her guesses are pretty good.
I'm really hoping I get a nub shot today showing a boy nub - that way I can get on with mourning.
Congrats salsa that looks like a girl nub to me!!
Good luck today shutterbug!
Congrats salsa that looks like a girl nub to me!!
Good luck today shutterbug!
It's at 4pm GMT, and I'm starting to feel really nervous :nails:
I would love to get a nub shot but the scanners here are generally VERY grumpy and if you say anything about the gender they get even more difficult.
Good luck northern x
I'm really enjoying seeing all the pics of everyone's cute little beans! I've finally been able to book my first u/s for Monday March 11, I'll be just over 14 weeks. I'm so darn excited to see my baby!
Salsa- I agree that looks pretty promising for pink!
Northern- I'm sorry you're feeling down. Seeing your little wiggle worm will certainly cheer you up. Can't wait to see pics, good luck!
Hi All,
Currently hiding out in the loos so I can put this on. Baby perfect, sucked its thumb the whole time! Thought I saw a girly nub but sonographer thought there was boy bits. This is the best shot I have

I dont see a nub.... My baby was sucking its hand the whole time too lol
Salsa it looks very girlie to me.
Northern it's hard to see, I hope you are baking a pink bun!
Ah northern lovely to see your lill bub!
I'm not great with nubs but annoying think its not clear enough to see but some people seem to have an eye for them!
Not long now 27 sleeps!
Salsa it looks very girlie to me.
Northern it's hard to see, I hope you are baking a pink bun!
Sorry northern, I don't see a nub, but looks like a happy healthy baby!!
Northern, I was thinking about you today. I have no idea if that is a nub that you cycled. If so, it definately looks very girly to me. But I am so confused about nubs anyhow.
But seriously, how can the sonographer see any boy parts at this early stage?? I thought they couldn't be there yet. As I said, I am so confused about all this.
I just hope that you are carrying your girl, despite of what everyone says.
Salsa, looks girly to me too. Congratulations :flowerz:
Yes absolutely, my only concern was my baby being healthy. I didnt even want a nub shot. But I guess Im happy I got one now. Its fun to guess, I just have to keep reminding myself that perfect looking girl nubs can infact still turn out to be boys and vice versa!!
No we arent going to find out the gender at all! So its going to be a long 6 months!! haha especially when everyone will be finding out around me!!
Northern, it is a bit blurry, but if that is infact the nub, then yes I think its looks girly!! So happy for you bubs is happy and healthy in there!! Are you having a gender scan??
