watch out for the aspartame. it can cause awful headaches in some ladies.
thanks, ladies :)
I used to drink a lot of diet drinks and I've been starting back slowly this week and I'm fine. Monday I will truly so how I feel bc I'm starting the LE diet then! I've also been preparing by having 1 nutrigrain bar (strawberry) for breakfast.. Monday I won't be having any breakfast.. just trying to get my body used to that now.
Just briefly popping in to say, Surgena, thought of you at lunch today since you’re a southwest girl…:)...I had the most wonderful hummus that was Chipotle flavored. I know you would have LOVED it! I think I found my new favorite hummus and sodium is only 75mg.
Ladies, I was wondering if you can give me a few tips on how I can increase my daily calorie intake, without adding extra nutrients, sugar, and sodium. I have been on the diet for 7 weeks and I will be TTC in March or April. I currently weigh 109, I'm 5'2" and losing weight way too fast. I would like to maintain, until the actual month TTC. any ideas on foods or treats that will add only calories to my daily 900 calorie intake? THank you.
Daily 900 calore intake consisits of:
No breakfast--cup of PP tea
12:30--1/2 cup angel hair (rice pasta), activia vanilla light, 1/2 bottle of water with crystal light in it, slice of swiss cheese.
4:00pm--sugar free gum, more crystal light water, diet coke/sprite o (some days. 3x a week)
6:00pm Rice and green beans, small salad with iceberg lettuce and cucumbers OR 1/2 plain non-fat yoghurt
before bed SOME nights, 1/2 cup of milk. or cup of PP tea.
So jealous! Yum, yum!
I made my husband burritos for dinner tonight. Did I sneak in some bites of the pinto beans? Uhhh, errr, YES. :(
If I wasn't in the 2ww, I'd feel really guilty about that... so, since I've done good the past few days of having low blood sugar in the mornings... I'm just going to not worry about eating a few spoons worth of pinto beans!
God, I wanted his dinner!!!
Just out of curiosity, why are you avoiding sugar? It's the easiest way to add calories without adding extra nutrients. I always had primarily sugar for my 3rd meal/snack in the evening - usually candy, sometimes ice cream if I had enough protein left in my budget. Full sugar soda is another great way to get extra calories.
As for how to do it without sugar, that sounds tough...maybe one of the other wonderful ladies can help you.
Your sodium intake looks rather low, so I thought I'd share some info I got from atomic on this subject:
"Do not drop the sodium any lower (than the recommended 700-1000mg). That is the level of sodium that is required for your health and this is true on all three diets, IG, FGD, and LE."
As long as you keep careful track of your calories and keep to 1500-1800 a day, you won't gain weight. Make sure you get enough calories, though - not eating enough can make you lose weight too quickly and will be hard to maintain if you need to be on this diet longer than you'd like. Also, if you lose too much weight there's always a danger you could stop ovulating. Adding some sugar to your diet is an easy way to make sure you're getting enough calories.
good morning, ladies :)
amari, I'm only eating them right now bc I'm not on the LE diet yet.. I'll start Monday. I'll be at home Monday too.. so it'll be a little easier to work up my meals.. yey! I'm still reading and getting some wonderful ideas from all you ladies.
ok, I know we can have lettuce, cucumber, leaks, mushrooms.. what other veggies? I'm waiting on my paypal account to get some money in.. it says it takes 3-5 days.. ugh! I hardly use that thing. I'll be so glad to get it in so I can become a member!
Guys, it's GOOD! I do the same thing w/Quark (very similar to creme fraiche) and DH will even eat it! I also sometimes use Chevrai (goat cheese crumbles) b/c I've found a pretty girl-friendly brand which doesn't taste like you're licking a goat and instead just has a nice subtle flavor. It is a bit higher in fat/protien but I use it when I can afford it. Mushrooms + leeks + white rice or shirataki noodles + Quark or Chevrai is my ol' stand-by...
I've tried and tried and tried but I just can't do it w/out adding some sugar in my diet. If I loosen the fat/protein/sodium, I can do it but otherwise, I just can't increase my cals enough w/out sugar in there. BTW, don't feel like you'll be putting on weight due to the sugar...just won't happen if you're keeping w/the LE diet!
Wishing4Princess, I agree w/H&DG...You're just going to crash and burn b/c you won't be able to keep it up for long and nor do you have to on the LE diet. You may want to log your food for a week or so (if you're not doing so already) to get a feel for the boundries (cals/protein/fat/sodium)...It really helped me to figure out so quick go-to meals that were safe so I don't always have to log.
ETA...Take it from me...I did the "crash & burn" LE diet in Dec. b/c I thought I could get a BFP on the 1st try and not have to keep up the diet...After a BFN and AF, I changed things around to 1500ish cals and I'm sticking there.
yes you can def easily stop ovulating by not sticking to the 1500 cal mark, AS told me some people who were trying to get away with 1200 cals stopped ovulating and thats prob the worst thing that can happen !
Veggie burger -- I did it!! It packs a wallop on my daily sodium intake so I had to watch that like a hawk, but thanks to a few awesome no-salt-added things I found, it was doable.
* Morning Star garden veggie burger -- 110 cals, 350mg sodium
* Wonderbread white bun -- 110 cals, 210mg sodium
* 1 slice Swiss cheese -- 60 cals, 25mg sodium
* 1 T. Heinz no-salt ketchup -- 20 cals, 0mg sodium
* No-salt bread-and-butter pickle slices -- 1 serving is 35 cals, 0mg sodium (I got these from HyVee, a grocery store in the Midwest -- those stores can be found in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The pickles were so good I had three slices on my burger and another seven on the side, so a total of 2 servings)
* I did include 1/2 teaspoon of mustard (30mg sodium), but really the pickles were so flavorful that I didn't detect the mustard at all, so I won't include that next time.
So, the calorie total is quite reasomable (366), but the sodium is a bit daunting (585mg between the bun, burger and cheese, assuming all other toppings are sodium-free). I managed to stick right at or just under 1000mg for the day by being careful with my other choices (even low-sodium stuff like caramel rice cakes and Diet Coke can add up when just one entree is nearly 600mg!!).
Still, it was just nice to have something different to eat. I've also put together a veggie pasta sauce that's bubbling away on the stove right now -- about two cups chopped white mushrooms, one chopped green bell pepper, one jalapeno (hope that's an okay veggie), one small white sweet potato, a peeled zucchini, a peeled yellow squash, a can of tomato paste (15mg sodium for a serving) and two cans of no-salt-added diced tomatoes (20mg sodium per serving). I have no idea if it'll be any good. :) I may add a bit of sugar and wine right at the end. Hopefully it'll add some variety -- a different thing to eat on top of noodles than the fake Stroganoff I've eaten quite a few times (and that is pretty darn tasty, don't get me wrong, but after 29 days on the diet, I'm ready for a change-up).
Also, another encouraging product I found at the store yesterday: Classico-brand light asiago romano alfredo sauce. One serving (1/4 cup) is 70 calories, 5g fat, 1g protein and 280mg sodium. That's certainly not *low* sodium, by any means, but my thought is this ... if I cook up two servings of pasta (7g protein per serving, no sodium) and mix it with 1/2 cup of the sauce ... and then streeeetch the whole thing by adding some veggies (I haven't done broccoli this month, maybe I could get away with that) ... then even though I've technically made two servings, I would divide it into three portions, making each pasta entree a total of 5.3g protein and 187mg sodium. I don't think that's bad at all, considering one of my main go-to meals of egg whites on bread with mayo has a whopping 14g of protein and 135mg sodium.
The alfredo sauce will be for a future meal, though, as I'm probably going to be on the veggie burger wagon for a few days (until, y'know, I'm bored with that). So my lunch today will be the egg/mayo/bread listed above, plus an applesauce (no sodium) and a rice cake (30mg sodium) and some Skittles (next to no sodium). So I'll have eaten 165mg of sodium, leaving me enough for a dinner of my burger tonight, plus another rice cake, plus some Snackwell's devil food cookies (4 cookies is 200 calories, 0 fat, 100mg sodium) and whatever else I can find that doesn't bump sodium past 1000 or my calories past 1300 for the day.
Hey dramabird~ sounds awesome can you come over and cook for me?
What are these bread and butter pickles..sounds good. Is there a brand name? NO Sodium wow!
hmmmm im loving a jacket potatoe with a small amount of lighter choices baked beans (100g) and some healthy soft chilli cheese spread (30g) all very low on everything once in a while, hmmmmmmmmmm
dramabird, thank you for all the wonderful ideas!! Working on my menus in a little bit and borrowing some ideas (: thanks!!
ooh I was in LIDL yesterday and found some Ainsley Hariott vegetable cous cous that sounds delicious - 188 cals, 6.9g protein, 1.6g fat, and 260mg sodium - these could very well form a staple part of my diet now!
ETA just found that Tesco sell it too! http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Produ.../?id=254718874
ooh that looks yummmmmmmmmmmy !!!!!!!
This is for my Trader Joe's girls...
OMG....I tried the chocolate "Cats" cookies (I usually buy the regular kind) and put lite coolwhip in between two and it totally tastes like an Oreo cookie! If you're craving Oreos, try this! It tastes so sinful w/out the sin!
hey peeps is decaf coffee and tea ok on the LE diet to drink often ?
AWESOME..picked up the regular ones today to do that. Chocolate would be good to. I think a little bit in the freezer would be great too, the coolwhip would harden just a bit. I'll keep you posted I'm gonna try it!!! I also bought the unsalted potatoe chips (I said I wasn't going to) They were great with egg whites.
Also tried the snackwells 130 cal pack of popcorn with carmel and white fudge FANTASTIC!!!
BUMP on the Q above about decaf tea and coffee ?
