Also ladies can I ask, has anyone refused induction as a gestional diabetic? I had an appointment today and I'm a diet controlled and not on any meds for it but the doctor seemed to think they would induce me the week of my due date, I kept saying no I'm not happy with that and he ignored me, I'm just curious if anyone else had this and how they dealt with it especially as there is no given reason to do it.
My friend negotiated her induction to be later when she had GD. I think they wanted to do it around her due date but she said she wanted to wait until 10 days over. He ended up coming a day or two before the induction.
You don't have to consent to anything you are not comfortable with. It sounds like the Dr was very rude dismissing you like that.
Hi, just jumping on to say that the reason for induction at term with gestational diabetes is the increased risk of still birth; my friend is a midwife and I was talking to her about it as another mutual friend has GD. I hope baby comes along before due date for you x
Im on a computer so not sure why the pics dont show. I can see my own pics that i put up and can see the older ones that others post but the last few weeks i can.t
I just read this : he World Health Organization states this evidence for induction before 41 weeks’ gestation is weak, and induction before 41 weeks should not be suggested if gestational diabetes is the only medical issue. The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) guidelines for gestational diabetes also do not recommend induction of labour before 39 weeks for women with well controlled GD. The evidence for induction of labour is neither strong, nor clear. A recent review looking at the evidence supporting indications for induction concluded there wasn’t strong enough evidence for induction of women with gestational diabetes. - See more at: Gestational Diabetes and Induction Of Labour - What You Should Know | BellyBelly
So fingers crossed I progress naturally and that I don't need any induction as there is no medical issues at present, I've just been travelling for like 24 hour on train and driving so I'm feeling pretty tired atm lols. On a good note I'm getting a lot of pressure and have an ultrasound on Tuesday to check the weight and all that so I definitely am feeling these last few weeks he he.
Good luck. Hope you don't need the induction if that's not what you want. I'm feeling like my body is gearing up to have this baby. Just lots of period cramp type contractions, more intense than before. Pressure down below, all that fun stuff. Hoping for a quick and safe delivery but time enough to get an epidural. :)
Goodluck pinkinthestars, hope bubs decides to come soon! Ps. The friend I mentioned who didn't want to get induced too early for her GD is also a midwife so I assume she was pretty informed about the choices she made.
Goodluck to you too pinkhelp... hope to hear some baby news!
Thank you purple :) yes I really don't want an induction as I'm really wanting to give birth in a birth centre here attached to the hospital and they have strict criteria to be able to, one being induction they don't do inductions there so I'm hoping and praying my body goes into labour by itself so I can birth there, it's an amazing place and so comfortable and big nothing like what I've had in the past, I really want a water birth which I was denied previous two occasions hence why I'm so gun ho on giving birth there so I can have all the things I've been dreaming of for a very long time, or well at least to have a go at it lols :)
good luck! I hope you get your water birth! I'm still hanging in there. I feeling pretty miserable at the end of this pregnancy. Just ready for it to be over. I know newborns are difficult as well, but it really feels like my body is saying it's done. I have my next OB appt on Thursday and she said she'll do the stretch and sweep so I'm super hoping that works! :)
Goodluck ladies& pinkhelp for your sweep on thursday. I had another scan+ clinic app today. Flyid levels have reduxed to normal limits so thats good. That's great news Sharon that things have leveled off a bit. And end is site for you! Thanks for the well wishes. I had some crazy lower back pain for a few hrs last night and was starting to think that i was in early labour but then it went away. I had leg and hip and joint pain too....took a tylenol after a few hrs. All my fingers are crossed that this sweep works!
My first came about 7 hrs after the sweep (but he was 2 days from being 40 weeks) my other 2 it was my second sweep that worked and it took about 6-7 hrs to kick in to full on labour contractions...we'll see this time!!
Ive never had a sweep b4 so not sure what to expect. But even if it doesnt put me into labour ill be gettin induced a cupla days later anyway
Hope urs works on thursday! Why they doin it so early is that standard where your from ? Here they wont usually do it b4 40 weeks unless theres a reason to

Not sure what is standard here or not. I think they'll do it after 37 weeks as long as your already dilated etc. They say it doesn't really work unless baby and body is really ready anyways. If done at 37, 38, 39 etc the likelihood of going overdue and needing an induction is greatly reduced so maybe that's why they do it? Im sure they offer it and then if the woman says no they dont do it. I've just always said yes.
Sorry for the delay... the app hasnt been working my end.
1st was born 38 weeks 2nd 39 weeks 3rd 38 weeks and scarlett 38 weeks.
I didnt know when i conceived my 1st. So just went by dates given by the 1st scan which was at 26 weeks which could have been wrong. I think this is especially the case with my 2nd. By lmp and implantation bleed i worked out i should have been nearly 10 weeks. I had some cramping a few days later so went for an early scan they said they couldnt find baby so put my dates back 5 weeks. I really feel now knowing more and with him being my biggest i think he was a slow grower at the start and in fact could have been over due.
How is everyone??? And those beautiful babies???

I understand completely! I was hoping for a birth centre birth with my first but had to be induced due to mild pre eclampsia at 40wks. I had a great birth in the labour and delivery ward but it wasn't what I really wanted.
With my 2nd I wanted to avoid all the hospital policies completely so I hired my own independent midwife and birthed at home.
Unfortunately my midwife cannot practice anymore and there are only 3 IMs in Adelaide so my only option this time is using the hospital system again but my hospital now offers homebirth. I have a great midwife but am still bound by hospital policy.
If you aren't already a member I know there is a Natural Hospital Birthing group on Facebook. I'm not a member but it is often mentioned in the Homebirth Australia group I am in. They will probably have great advice on navigating the hospital system to get the birth you want.
Thank you very much Purple it's greatly appreciated I will definitely look into it :)
No luck with the sweep yesterday. I had some cramps and a few contractions but nothing picked up....I tried walking for a bit but I'm so lazy and tired with this pregnancy I needed a nap. lol....I've noticed quite a bit of reduced movement from the baby over the last few days so I think room is getting cramped in there.
Aww pinkhelp thats rubbish but u never know things could still kick off over the next day or so. Did they say ur cervix was open and sodt etc
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
i was 2 cm and cervix soft and at the front, I guess baby isn't ready? When is your induction date again? Good luck! You may just have your baby first!
Whats ur actual due date pinkhelp ? If ur 2cm and soft then thats actually quite favourable. My sweeps on Monday but i just hope im not unfavourable and cervix closed or hard etc or unreachable
