My doc told me today at my appointment that he wants to do steroid shots for the baby's lungs this time since I'll deliver by 37 weeks. Anyone done this before?

I have to deliver at 37 weeks because of the thinness of my uterus. I did 37 weeks with my last baby too, but we didn't do any shots that time. This is my fifth c section

4blue2pink- The US will probably never catch up when it comes to birthing children or maternity leave. It's pretty sad with how "developed" of a country we're supposed to be but we don't support the future by requiring any type of maternity leave. I get 6 weeks because I pay for short term disability and the plan I chose covers maternity leave but without it, I would get nothing.
I'm also being seen by an ob/gyn. There are 4 doctors in the practice and I'll deliver in a hospital. I'm sure I'll be induced overdue but it'd be nice to labor at home for a little bit for once. Not being able to eat for about 24 hours is pretty exhausting while giving birth. Ahhh yes giving life while starving...pretty ironic lol.
I have had all 3 of my children delivered by the midwives at my hospital. They are NP's but have been medically trained for labor and delivery specifically, and have undergone rigorous training by the OB's at my hospital. They are closely monitored by the OB director, and I have full confidence in them. They are nothing like the traditional midwife you here of people seeing in their homes (Not smashing on them- just stating the difference).
The hospital I go to in my area (population of 350,000) is a Level 1 trauma unit and have 12 OBs on staff. There are 6 on at one time with 2 on call (1 during the day and 1 during the night) with 3 Perinatologists 2 o staff and one on call overnight to deliver babies with known complications or complications that arise during labor.

We are allowed to deliver in the pool as long as mom and baby have had no known medical conditions or complications leading up to delivery. It is at the discretion of the mom and the OB or midwife at the time. I chose not to because my contractions never progressed more than 5min apart leading up to pushing and the midwife had to coach me to push him out. We both felt more comfortable with me doing this out of the pool (which is more like a giant size garden tub that is equipped for fetal monitoring).
All of the rooms are private and have separate standing shower and separate bathtub in the bathrooms of the labor room. There are 5 private birthing pools on the floor as well.

They hold a nurse practitioner of midwifery degree (which is a Master's degree) and have undergone further extensive training with the OBs at my hospital. They are midwives but have been trained by OBs. It's like the best of both worlds. 4 out of the 6 midwives hold PhD's.
The midwives don't have as big of case loads like the OBs do. They can actually stay with you the whole time, or pretty close to it anyway. I love their director, he's a family friend of mine, but he's do dang busy and is only there to catch the baby. There is so much more that happens prior to that, that I feel is much too much for a nurse to deal with. However, I am blessed with quick labors and deliveries so my experience may not necessarily be the norm.

Srg I have done them. I did them with ds1 because I went into labor at 34w but it was stopped. I've never had it done with any others even my 35 weeker was just fine without them and didn't require oxygen. If you live close to the hospital they're not bad but you have to have them all within a short window and it was a pain in the butt for me "literally" [emoji23] they kinda hurt. I'm doing weekly progesterone shots right now. Why would he not do these if he's expecting you to deliver early? Ahhh never mind I see now c section. Did your last baby require oxygen?

Ash, my last baby didn't need oxygen, but my heart baby had lung issues too and he was born at 39 weeks. I think my doc is just trying to be overly cautious. He was talking about a study he read and said that the steroids won't hurt anything, so it might be a good idea to do them.

Srg - will this be your 5th csection? Just asking bc this will be my 3rd and my doctor doesn't like to do more than 3. But, I'm hearing of lots of others having 4 and 5.

Kat, my doctor gave me permission for a 5th csection after she did my fourth csection.

I really think this is why I don't feel as many kicks as I think I should by now. If I ever do feel anything it's super low like bladder jabs and that's about it

Well that'll be my luck I'm planning on actually trying a natural birth this time and she won't turn [emoji849]. Someone suggested chiropractor to turn baby I may give it a try is she's not turned by 33w

Great position for team green though because it took my tech a minute before she could get to the bottom. And she couldn't get a kidney pic or spine measurement so I get to go back.

Yep! My tech was laughing at bub wiggling when she 'almost' got the shot [emoji23] and yes she didn't go anywhere near a potty shot which was fantastic!

Look at that cute bub PBN – gorgeous!! :awe:
Shame the tech was so good at not checking out bub, we were keen to know  but good for you to be strong and be team green – love the position arms up! :D
It’s funny how different maternity care is from country to country! ;) I think lots of women in Australia just use an obstetrician, privately, if they have private health insurance but the out of pocket usually still is pretty big most of the time hence why I am going public.
I’m fortunate though that our catchment hospital, which is I think the biggest in Queensland, still has a midwife-led care as the standard – i.e. the OBs only intervene if high risk or if there is an issue at delivery. So midwives are doing all the care – if all goes well, will just see the hospital OB once for a quick assessment.
I hopefully will get a spot in the Midwifery Group Practice group, meaning I will have the same midwife throughout the pregnancy and at delivery and for post-natal visits at home (as will be kicked out of hospital verrryy quickly) ;)
4B2P – I think they still have the birthing pools available – hopefully this time I make it with enough time for it (that may help with the tearing too) ^^ a couple of years back it was only a couple of select birthing suites that had them (others just have a tub for the labouring part but you’re not supposed to birth in them – you need one the specifically “waterbirth” midwives too).
I’m still, even now at 10 weeks, in utter disbelief talking about this and that I am going to go through this amazing journey again – thank you Life!
It probably is gas, but feel like I am getting the smallest of flutters – and as I felt the girls at 13 and 11 weeks respectively (confirmed by u/s as felt their movements as they were happening on the screen) , does it sound insane it could be bub???
Beautiful baby pbn3

Thanks for all the comments ladies! I guess we wait the 2 weeks and see what bubs is doing then. I was just so looking forward to the scan so am a bit disappointed.
Love seeing all your updates.
So happy for you Pbn3! Sorry I missed your story.. did you sway or just want a surprise?
