As for second hand stuff, I must be the odd one out because I am not even slightly worried about germs. They say that the germ phobia is contributing to major diseases like leukemia because some people sanitize way too much. That wouldn't be me tho. My kids get dirty and play in the mud. The touch dogs and chooks and if they drop their food they pick it up and eat it even if it has hit the floor. They rarely get sick, but if they do, they get over it quickly. I am probably just a super lazy mum, lol! But it really doesn't bother me at all. I choose to buy stuff new at times because I like pretty things, not because I worry about germs. Maybe because I'm a nurse and I have always had to be near and touch all sorts of stuff that I'm not scared of germs? I think it is better for bodies to learn how to fight disease. I caught everything my first few years in emergency and then I started to not get sick at all. Still, every baby, I like to have a few new things for. As a middle child I appreciate how children notice things like that and I do my best to make sure they all get a mix of new and used. That said, I still wouldn't give a used dummy(binki?) to a child. But pretty much everything else I'm easy.
