Butterfly, the thing is, you don't know how your thyroid was functioning when you conceived your boys. Thyroids are changing things, they can work well for years and then suddenly go kaput. One of the most common things that affects thyroid function is pregnancy (just like the gall bladder, the thyroid doesn't handle pregnancy and recovery after pregnancy super well). So your thyroid may have been functioning when you conceived your boys (and in fact, it probably was because doctors check your thyroid via blood tests as a regular part of yoru prenatal care and would very likely have caught it if your thyroid was not working right.)
