Some people are being told to actually reach INTO their cervix, pull it open and reach up inside to get CM. Some people are checking pH this way several times a day for weeks/months and every time is an opportunity for injury/infection. This is NOT good because even with clean hands you can introduce germs into your uterus and the cervix can swell and get irritated (particularly if you're taking blood thinners like garlic or fish oil) and this is not good for the crypts that produce the CM and shelter the sperm.
Some people get a condition called cervical erosion which means that the crypts are not in good condition and aren't going to produce as much mucus as they normally do, and this is especially common in people with higher estrogen levels (blue swayers) and also around ovulation which is when most of us check our cervix anyway.
If you touch around your cervix to feel whether it's open/soft and just scoop up some CM while you're in the neighborhood, this is fine but I don't want ANYONE pulling open their cervix.
