Sorry about your sister, HappyLea - I'd be annoyed too!
Thanks Mocha, i just cant understand how she doesnt see what she is doing is not right. Ok the puppy may bring joy to the kids for a bit but in my eyes, thats another mouth to feed plus vet bills and pet insurance? She doesnt pick the poo up in the garden for the dog she has now, it will be worse with 2.
Surely this is too much for a single mum of 3 already with 4 cats 1 dog and 1 budgie!!! Whom needs to find a house asap and what if the house she gets doesnt allow pets? Another load of animals she will be getting rid of.
HappyLea, that is an awkward situation. Sorry you have to have that going on around you!
Thanks for the bump compliments everyone! Yep, I am a hobbyist photographer and usually have toddler/child sessions. :) I figured someone might find my duck hilarious - it's actually a baby toy from a garage sale!
Mocha, my average weight is around 130, too (during the fall I was a very toned 126). I think now I'm around 155 and it's soooo hard to change my mindset about my weight. I worked so hard after DS1 to get in awesome shape and now I crave terrible foods and I'm so tired I barely want to do yardwork, let alone exercise! LOL.
Ugh, Happylea, your sister sounds like a difficult person! I don't approve of people treating their pets like that at all! If you get a pet, you should be responsible for it, not just give it up when it is no longer convenient. I doubt she has anything to say about your life--she probably just makes that comment so you will feel bad for saying things about her.
I went to my ob appointment last night and I had to see A male dr which was not and ob because My usual ob was away.. Anyway he checked me over and went to listen to babies heart beat and couldnt find it ( OH THE STRESS) Anyway he ended up going and getting my usual ob's ultrasound machine which pretty much looked like a laptop. Anyway he found baby and heart beat so I was happy I saw baby moving was not the best ultrasound but could make out its head arms legs and tummy AND heart!! It was only a side view shot of baby but I thought I saw something sticking up down there??? Could of been cord , could of been the leg But would a doodle be sticking up ?? I asked the guy if he could tell me the sex and he said no because you need a good ultrasound machine and the right shot between the legs.. hmmm I am not so sure??
Thanks for listening to me rant, well today is another day and i plan on enjoying it with my boys and DH :D
Pinkin, its horrible when they don't find heartbeat straight away, but so glad you got to see and hear your bubba. Im sure you have nothing to worry about what was between legs, could have been anything from cord or foot you saw.
Have a nice day ladies x
It is very horrible but he could see the placenta was covering the baby so that is why he couldnt hear anything..
I have it in my head now its a boy so if I do hear girl its a bonus
HappyLea, your sister sounds high maintenance and a pain in the backside to me. Sounds like your parents would rather tread on eggshells and not upset her rather than tell her what they really think. (Mine do that for one of my brothers.) But she is big enough to figure things out on her own. I just hope the kids are ok with the break-up and instability surrounding them at the moment.
Pinkin, that would have been horrible to have to wait while he checked with another machine for the heartbeat. So glad everything is good. I am like you...I've decided this is a boy too and tell myself that if I'm wrong then it's just a bonus that I was wrong!
Yeah Peony It was horrible waiting 5 min felt like an hr!!!
Have you decided to find out gender?
Pinkin - so sorry you had a fright, but I'm glad you saw your baby. I wouldn't worry about what you think you saw - those little machines are so crappy you can barely tell what you're looking at.
HappyLea, your sister sounds like a cow that needs to grow up! Really, the thing with the animals is terrible, but I'm more worried about the message it sending her kids...that when soemthing is not convientent anymore, you just get rid of it! I do feel for the poor animals too. I had an animal moment myself last week where my two cats started getting sick and we just don't have the extra money for the vet, but I called and looked around and found a low cost income based cat clinic and we happily took the sicker cat in yesterday! he needs medication but he's going to be fine....the idea of giving the cats away was tempting for a moment since my DH has to have his nuts nagged off to change the cat box, but we've had these cats for 10 years, and they've been very low maintaince until now, so we had to step it up and take care of them, fulfill our responsiblity to them.
Pinkin, I agree...I woudln't worry about what you saw on that crappy machine, you really don't know yet...it could be either gender! If it helps your heart to protect it by thinking boy, then by all means, keep thinking it, but don't think it if it makes you feel too depressed because you simply really do not know yet!
Peony, I still really hope you find out! I still think you're going to be surprised and hear girl!!!
How are all you lovely ladies and bumps?
We had a fab day yesterday, took the kids to the Ice Cream Farm, they looked around the animals, played on the adventure park, went on the quad bikes and also ate ice cream of course...nom nom nom! We all had so much fun, although i did find myself looking at the genders of all the other families and all with 2 kids or more seemed to have have mixed genders :(
But on the plus side i think we have agreed on a name if this is deffinately a boy, its not 100% yet but we have chosen Charlie Anthony (my grandad was Anthony who sadly passed away earlier this year, also the middle name of my other grandad who passed away before i was born)
Our other boys are: Elliott Matthew, Benjamin James, Oliver Lee do you think Charlie Anthony would sound nice??? We struggle with boys names.
I replied on your other thread about names, but I think the name goes well with the other name and I've always liked the name Charlie!
I think that is a great name, and it goes well with your other boys' names. Sounds like you had a fun outing yesterday! I am jealous--it was so hot and windy here yesterday, we had to stay inside!
Mmmm...I'm not sure what an ice cream farm is, but I want to go right now!
I loooove the name Charlie. It was on my list for ds3 (and would have been again if this was ds4), but I wasn't able to convince dh to go for it. I think he imagined the baby's 'real' name to be Charles, and he doesn't like that name. I think I would have just put Charlie right on his birth certificate though and skipped Charles altogether!
What is everyone doing today? Anything exciting? I am babysitting (the baby is asleep right now) and my kids are watching a movie after lunch. I am going to make some homemade salsa in a few minutes..... I LOVE salsa, and I have a great recipe for making it (easy too). Mmmmmmmmm!
Right now I'm sitting in the backyard while my kids play. A huge thunderstorm rolled through here a couple of hours ago - hail and everything - but it's lovely out now. Soon I'll have to get off my lazy butt and make supper because my older boys have t-ball in just over an hour.
Oh, and a fellow mom from my friends' school just told me today she has 3 boxes full of girl clothes for me. Yay!
That's awesome! Hand me downs are the best. I got a ton for DD2, and saved them all "just in case", so I will use them again on this baby most probably.
Hobb, I am sitting at home stressing!! Thats what I am doing today..
My d/h is away working for the week and before he left on sunday morning at 5am he gave me his dirty football gear in a plastic bag for me to wash.... Last night he rang me and asked if his footy gear had been washed because it was real muddy and I said yes! Well anyway he doesnt know this yet and this is why I am stressing!!! I have thrown his football gear in the bin thinking it was rubbish ( shorts, Socks , Football jumper, Expensive football boots!!! and they have gone to the tip!!! Oh gee I am in so much trouble He is going to FLIP!!!! I am just waiting for my usual morning ph call....
oh no Pinkin!! Can you replace it before he gets home? Do you know the sizes of everything? I am sure he will know it isn't his original stuff, but maybe he won't mind as long as he has new things. :worry:
The football jumper is from the football club he doesnt actually own it so that is my main problem. He only jut brought the rest of the gear last weekend! I can get the shorts and socks but he will need to get football boots and well as for the jumper I am not sure what his footy club will say!
Can you call his team leader/coach/whoever is in charge, and tell them what happened? Maybe they have another one? I am so sorry, that sounds like a nightmare! :( I hope your DH is understanding. It was just an accident.
Oh pinkin - I'm sorry. I'm sure your dh will understand. Blame it on pregnancy brain.
I told him and I burst or crying on the phone I was outside at 12am looking in the other bin out the back I had no sleep stressing about it.. He was ok he isnt happy but me crying helped me i think!!! I felt terrible, still do
I'm glad he took it well.
Oh no, Pinkin!! How stressful. :(
I have an Aussie friend that once gave her husband a bag of dirty nappies instead of his gym stuff. I hope it's not too expensive to replace his gear!
Pinkin, the water works always work for me in a tricky situation! He can't be too cross as he should have washed his own stinky muddy footy stuff IMO, rather than leaving it for his pg wife to deal with!!
At this stage I don't think we will find out the gender as DH doesn't want to keep it from the kids and I don't want them to know as I am sure they will tell everyone. As much as I would love to find out, a big part of me also loves the idea of waiting and having a surprise. It is 3 weeks until my 20 week scan and I think the time will go really fast as we have heaps on, including visitors arriving next week.
What have I been up to today? Took kids to school, had a blood test to check thyroxine levels, sat by the ocean to have a chocolate croissant and decaf latte, went for a walk in the Botanic Gardens, phoned my parents, picked up DS2 from preschool, dropped a box of toys at St Vinnies, and now I am on here (in between feeding my bottomless pit of a 4yo!) And it's only lunchtime. Tomorrow is a work day, so I try and do a few nice things on my days off.
Peony, your day sounds lovely! I wish I could sit by the ocean and have a pastry. :) And I can totally support you waiting for a delivery room surprise! Go team green! :)
Thanks Hobber. I will see how strong I can be! And I meant to ask you for your salsa recipe if you don't mind sharing? I love tried and tested recipes.
Peony - sitting by the ocean eating a chocolate croissant sounds like a perfect day to me!
I couldn't agree more with Mocha! Sounds like heaven!!
I just found out via email that the raise I was supposed to get (2-3K extra year) is being postponed until next year! I was hired 11 days short of getting a raise for this year...I am seriously kind of sick about it, because money has been tight, and I was counting on that extra little bit every paycheck to help get our finances back on track. UGH.
Hubby is refusing even a part time job because he knows a part time job would just be retail or something that pays 8 bucks an hour or around that, I just think he's being a snob. He could work 2 nights a week after I get home from work, and still have plenty of free time. He's just being a bit lazy and snobbish. Even 2 nights a week at 8 dollars an hour would help pay an extra bill off, or even be extra grocery money. It's not like I'm asking him to work full-time. To be fair to him, I havent really pressed the issue with him, just mentioned it in passing (very briefly) but he got very upset with the idea of working for almost "nothing" as he says.
I'm just extra worried because I have a 10 percent coinnsuracne thing and even though they pay most of labor and delivery, we are STILL paying off DS2's hospital bill. It is still over 1000 dollars and we pay on it some every month. Then, I worry about the incoming bill from DH's ER stint for his pancreatitis....and well, money sucks, let's just put it that way....
Despite money woes, everything is going great. DS1 and 2 are just lovely and cuddly and oh so cute, hubby is doing better health wise (he's still terrified to have a drink, and he's eating more healthier), so I guess there is definitely an upside...if only we could get our money sorted better....
Your DH could take a job like that. I did. I work only a few days a week in the evenings, and it helps. I get $8/hr. It isn't a ton of money, but it does help.
I am sorry about your raise! What a bummer. WHen they say "next year" do they mean next summer, or just after the New Year?
Absolutely! Here is how I make it (I wing it a little, so feel free to change it here or there):
2-3 cans diced tomatoes
1 can Rotel tomatoes and chiles (original flavor)
1 sm can roasted mild green chiles
1 fresh jalapeno, chopped and seeded (use more than one if you like it really spicy, or less for a more mild salsa)
1/2 can chopped jalapenos (again, use less or omit this ingredient if you like it milder)
1 green pepper, chopped
1 sweet onion, chopped
at least 5 cloves garlic, chopped (more if you like!)
The juice of one lime
a few splashes of vinegar (red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar work best)
salt to taste
fresh chopped cilantro, to taste ( I usually use a handful or so)
4 green onions, chopped
I mix everything in a big bowl, and then take about 1/2 of the mixture and put it in the blender. Then I "pulse" it, so it gets smoother, and mix it all back in with the chunky mixture.
Like I said, I do wing it, so it isn't always the same every time. I sometimes add chopped cucumber (which is delicious!), but that seems to make it go bad quicker, so if you want to add the cucumber, maybe add it to only part of the batch.
I do sometimes use fresh tomatoes (maybe half the amount fresh, half canned). The fresh tomatoes tend to make a lot of extra juice, so you might have to pour some off. We live in a place where good, fresh tomatoes aren't always available, so that's why I usually use the canned kind.
Auroara - I'm sorry about your raise - that really sucks. If DH doesn't want to work in retail, there are lots of online jobs he could do. I do online freelance writing (or used to), which pays $15 per article, and I also do search engine evaluation work that pays well for what it is.
Also, your comments about having to pay for the medical stuff really makes me happy I live in Canada. My Dad's been in the hospital for 8 months now - can you imagine if we lived somewhere where we had to pay for care?? My DH had brain surgery a few months after we got married and had a 2 week stay in the hospital - I can't even imagine how in debt we'd be after that, not to mention the week stay in the hospital after my twins were born, including some NICU care. We don't have to pay for anything like that here - it's all rolled into our income tax. Worth it if you ask me.
Mocha, I think that would be a dream come true. It makes my DH huffy that we pay so much for our health insurance (and we really do!) and yet everytime you NEED it you end up stuck with a massive "co-pay" bill. I kind of miss the HMO I had when Quinten was born ..it was just 400 dollars for everything and I thought that was alot, but after getting 10% seperate bills from the hospital, the other various doctors helping with the c-section, the ob-gyn office themsleves....400 seemed like a deal to have a baby with!
My old co worker's husband a federal employee and it cost ZERO to have her baby! Why must us non-federal people have to pay so much?? ACK.
Sorry, my mood has not improved since this morning. That email really shot me down in a slump, and then we talked about it in the education meeting where my boss point blankely addressed it and pointed to me and another employee and said our raises were definitely getting deferred until January. So it's only 6 months, but it's 6 months that I was hoping to have some extra money.
Hobbers, I'm going to have to reapproach hubby now that I know the raise isn't going to happen for another 6 months. He thinks we can "make" it if we're careful, but we're not always careful, and he never took over the check book like he said he was going to once he became a stay at home dad, and it's time for us all to face the music now, instead of letting it get totally out of control. I'm going to have to make a new spreadsheet for him and show him, I guess. Numbers talk more than words, I suppose.
I really feel like I need a good cry right about now. My dad's taken a turn for the worse - he had a heart attack last night on top of his millions of other health problems and is now in ICU. My mom is on a much deserved vacation in Spain (she's been his primary caregiver this whole time), which means my brothers and I are trying to manage this crisis remotely - none of us live in our parents' city.
I was doing some yard work to try to take my mind off things and had to set my brand new sunglasses on the ground for a minute to do something, and when I turned to get them ds3 had ripped them into 3 pieces. They weren't really expensive - $35 - but we're having a tight month money-wise and now I have to get new sunglasses. I really didn't need this today..,.
I'm so sorry Mocha, big {hugs} and thoughts for your family x
Mocha, I am so sorry. I hope you are able to get stuff worked out with your dad, and he recovers quickly.
Sorry for all of the bummer news going around folks. :( Big hugs for everyone.
I posted in the name section if anyone wants to take a peek and help me out!
Thanks everyone. My Dad's been in the hospital since November and we already knew he wouldn't be coming home - at this point they're just trying to keep him comfortable. The best we can hope for is that he recovers well enough to move into a nursing home.
