I am not sure now of the differences--just that the NIPT may contain cells from the placenta which could be mosaic and not necessarily reflective of the baby. The amnio get cells more directly from the baby and therefore has a higher accuracy rate. Will have my genetic counseling meeting tomorrow to discuss more. I also talked more with my doctor today and decided that we will do NIPT and the NT US. If things look bad, we will follow up with CVS soon. If things look ok, I will do an amnio later just to confirm. I feel better about an amnio later than a CVS earlier because I worry about messing with the placenta. I have a history of placenta issues in a past pregnancy. Does his make sense?
