I took the sample myself at home and sent it off to the lab. I have read they are less reliable because of contamination but that would only be the case if I was told boy and it was a girl. The only room for error in my case (that I can think of) is that the sample wasn't checked thoroughly enough to find the Y chromosome, or my results were mixed up with another persons. At 16 weeks there should be plenty of fetal DNA in my blood so again, less likely to be an issue with the sample due to that reason.
I called them and even the lady confirmed that its unlikely to be wrong if they say girl. More likely the scan is wrong but I have a very clear image in my head of the scan and can't see how that can be wrong. The sonographer was adamant that the shape was that of a boy and there were no "3 lines" that girls have. Plus I just don't want to put myself through the turmoil. I have booked a private gender scan tomorrow to see what they find.
Thank you again for your comments. I don't feel so alone in this with all your replies.

Surely it's less likely to give an incorrect 'boy' result than girl as something not found does not mean it's not present. So sorry you are going through this uncertainty

Confirmed boy on the private scan today. Number of shots that clearly show the relevant parts.

I'm sorry you didn't hear girl :-( I hope you can get your money back for the inaccurate test as it really gave you false hope. I hope you are ok. Hugs.

Sorry you didn't hear girl at the scan today and that you've been through all of this. Hope that you can get some reason why the result was incorrect from the blood test. Xx

So sorry, hang in there. You'll be in love the moment you meet him!

Same thing happened to me when pregnant with DS3. I did the Tell me pink or blue test and was told it was a girl. After my 13 weeks sono where I saw a clear boy nub I contacted the company and they were adamant the test was right... DS 3 is now almost 4 and he is ALL boy. It made my GD so worst to be told Girl by this test. I'm really sorry you have to go through this... Big hugs

Oh no Ruby I'm so sorry. I agree most likely is that they mixed your results up with someone else. :(
Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Oh no Ruby, I'm so sorry! I can't imagine what a roller coaster of emotions you've been through. Take the time to grieve in whatever way you need to as I'm sure it feels like a loss of sorts.
