It's low protein BUT low meat is also helpful. Here is why.
We have studies in both animals and humans that indicate lower protein (while still getting enough to get and stay pregnant, of course) and higher carb intake leads to more female offspring conceived. So we are trying to emulate that. I created LE Diet to be the lowest normal, healthy intake of protein prior to pregnancy and for most people that is a serious drop in protein intake overall. The reason we limit meat is in part to make that easier - since meat has a high amount of protein for a relatively low calorie count, people who try to eat a bunch of meat end up quickly exceeding the 50 g max protein and they've barely eaten any calories. Since we need 1500-1800 cals a day, and grain and dairy and legumes, nuts, eggs have protein in them, focusing on meat ends up often turning into this terrible diet where people are eating chicken, cucumbers, and gummy worms for months at a time instead of a more balanced diet. And additionally, since there are some micronutrients in meat, it's also a way to cut back on those things somewhat as well.
