fresas does sound likely that it's just much too early... still have a lot of hope for you! spotting is normal around the 4 week mark anyway, I had it with both my other pregnancies and last pregnancy continued to get brown discharge up to 9 weeks
the blood test we have done at 8 weeks tests for HIV/and a few other STDs, and we also submit a booking-in pee sample to test for infections

I'm still having a lot of spotting, mostly brown, but a lot of it. It isn't enough to soak a pad or anything though.
I don't want to check if the cervix is open because I don't want to irritate anything.
I'm not having cramping or back pain. I guess I just have to wait and see. If this is truly miscarrying, I guess I would rather have it happen earlier than later, but would rather not miscarry at all and of course have a happy, healthy baby.
I have a personal question. If you ladies aren't comfortable answering that is okay, but was wondering with anyone who experienced a miscarriage, did you save any of the tissue for the doctor or is it commonly accepted that a one time miscarriage is not something that warrants tissue samples?
I didn't save any tissue, though it would have been easy for me to do it. My missed miscarriage was at 11 weeks and I delivered the sac intact. I chose not to because I felt it was better not knowing if my baby was a boy or a girl (otherwise it would have made it harder if my next pregnancy was a boy), and my mw was fairly confident it was just chromosomal abnormalities.
I didn't save any tissue - they told me no tests would be done until I had 3 MCs.. and (TMI, and distressing) the baby came into the toilet during a bowel movement for me so I didn't want to put my hand in there, it was really traumatic at the time and I was in shock as I thought I'd passed the baby a few days before so wasn't expecting it
actually not knowing the gender is one thing I've found hard to move on from - I felt our baby deserved an identity and I really wish I could know what gender it was
I think I'd feel the same as you if my baby had been further along, rainbow. My sac was empty when I delivered it, and I suspect baby never fully developed or else passed so early my body reabsorbed it. I'm sorry that not knowing still causes you pain :HH:

The main reason why doctors want you to save the tissue is not for testing but because they want to make sure everything is there and nothing got left behind.
Not knowing gender was really hard for me, too - I think because I was so d-- happy to see that bleeding because I thought it was AF and then I could launch into doing this big stupid sway...not knowing I was losing my baby...and I just always think my baby was in heaven and seeing me HAPPY and then not mourning it for 4 months - and also especially if it was a boy. :( So I desperately wanted to give my baby an identity and for it to know that I really did care about it and wanted to be its mother and that I wanted it regardless of gender. I HATE it that I did that and it has really stuck with me. So I named it a unisex name but I still find it hard to forgive myself for that.
