Wow! Congratulations Afy & Huds! Xx
Hi , yes had 20 week scan a couple of days ago and everything looked great ...
Congrats to those who swayed boy and got one its definitely a boy run on here !
I purchased some new bedding which is quite colourful and not too boyish so that makes me happy even though I had to try hard not to look over at the girl bedding xxx
Wow! I am so happy for you. Obviously all babies are wonderful but there really is something special about a baby boy.
You will love all the megablog building, carvracing, dinosaurs taking over the world, pirate play, making dens etc. although i desperately want a girl i am still convinced that boys have the best toys:)
Hi ladies, i am about to book my 20 week appointment and have a quick question. Does it matter whether it is dead on 20 for gender / other reasons? The ob is on holiday at the moment so i cannot ask her. My DS1 is due to start school on the day i turn twenty weeks. I am kind of hoping that he wont ask about my little bump until after i know the sex so i can say "yes you are going to have a ******".
Thanks
I think it's fine to even be 21 weeks or sometimes 19 weeks is ok too xx
I got in for my 20 week scan on Tuesday, I was suppose to go this week but put it off. So only a couple more days to see our little baby!
probably i have an appt next wednesday i always measure big then they get me to have a 32 wk growth scan, although the last one weighed a pound less than predicted lol :)
the bedding is called hopscotch
here is the link xx

Awww the bedding is so so adorableee, i love the mixture of colours. I want to buy mine once i get the ok from the next scan. Wowww do u measure big... How big were ur last babies? Dd1 was 6.14 and dd2 was 7.02
My "20 week scan" with ds2 was at 18 weeks, if that helps!!
Lol really?! So boys are bigger. Gosh i dont think i can push out a baby weighing more than the dds lol. I found in this pregnancy i get a little light headed sometimes. So i quickly eat something and im fine. Did anyone else experience that?
My boys were 6'11 (10 days over due) 7'15 (3 days over due) and 7'11 (7 days over due). I'm 5 ft 1 and pre pregnancy 112 pounds so midwives don't think I'd carry a baby much bigger but I guess I could! I know lots of dinky boys so if your girls were an average size I'd say you'd be ok
I have heard that boys weigh more in general but there are plenty of exceptions that i know of. I really hope that if i am carrying another boy that he weighs less than 4 kg this time. DS2 was two weeks early and still well over 4kg. Ive heard that bigger ones arent necessarily harder to push out but they are no walk in the oark either! Oh for one of those quick pop it out like a pea labours!
Emily all of mine were a few pushes and out that their size wasn't a big bearing in that I don't think. DS2 was the easiest birth and he was the biggest. Also he was really short so he looked even chubbier, he has massive shoulders lol.
Omg anyone else just dying with morning sickness? I thought I was better and didn't take my tablet this morning and omg now I feel awful (have taken one now but it hasn't kicked in yet). I thought I felt sicky with my others especial ds3 but it was no where near this awful. So glad I'm off work for a couple more weeks when I will be hopefully able to function!
Ds1 was 8 lb 9 on due date induced ( got stuck shoulder dystocia)
Ds2 38 weeks induced then emerg c section 8 lb 8 head wouldn't go through pelvis
Ds3 was 8lb 3 at 38 weeks scheduled c section
I just measure a few cms ahead if weeks but the growth scan of my last one said he would be 9lb 8 and he was not that big even if he went to term ....
Got my first scan date in, 15th of August when I will be 13+2 by my dates. It's so weird because this time I haven't seen my baby yet. Always had early scans with my boys due to red bleeding. I'm not sure if I want a nub shot or not. My last son had a really obvious boy nub and the dream was over really fast.
Your children have been around the 8 mark. I hope mine stays around the 7mark. Im dreading labour. I go on for days... Then when it comes to the pushing part im done within 20mins or so. i really want to try to loose my weight after this baby. I find the stomach area really tough to loose. Maybe its bcos i had my babies very close together.
I agree I find the tummy the hardest too. I found the secret just before I began swaying and had to couch potato it... Running!!! Or jogging anyway. It's ah-mazing for loosing the tummy and I have NEVER been a jogger or one of those ladies who look amazing running down the street. I tend to look like a sweaty uncoordinated tomato and the trick for me was running when dh got home from work to look after the boys and just going on my own with my iPod. That way I didn't feel pressured by a friend with me, or feel watched. I tend to jog the tracks where I won't see many people either, that's how bad I look!!! But just 4-5km a day, 5 days a week was enough and I lost the belly in a month or two. I was also doing the calorie counting at the time but not that strict, because I was trying to maintain weight not loose.
Interesting study that appears to be testing nub theory (the saggital plane is the nub):
"71.9% at 11 weeks, 92% at 12 weeks, and 98.3% at 13 weeks"

Has any one els suffered from uti's during prenancy?? If so what can you take to get by until you can get into the doctors??? :(
I had one recently. Cranberry juice and Ural if you can get it. Heaps of water as well. Get to the dr asap so you can get some anti biotics :)
Congrats on all the recent successful gender sways! I have my scan in three weeks which is exciting. Hopefully I can join the success rate :)
Afy - CONGRATS on your sweet baby boy! Like I told Huds, little boys adore their mommies!!
Soar - I am really just surmising on the shape of the uterus thing. I looked through lots of early ultrasound pics, and then saw a diagram of a transverse ultrasound vs. a sagittal ultrasound. In the transverse, the shape of the uterus appears to be more horizontally shaped, kinda like a jellybean. The sagittal view looks a little more vertical, which is what my pics look like. So, if indeed mine is sagittal, even though baby appears on the left, that wouldn't mean left, since sagittal doesn't show right/left. Does that make sense? Again, I am guessing that mine's not transverse, but I don't really know that! Just giving myself a slight little bit of hope! So glad to hear you enjoyed your vacation!
Weight of baby - My boys were relatively small (and still are). They were all 20 inches, but DS1 was 6lb, 3oz at 39+6, DS2 was 7lb, 9oz at 38+6, and DS3 was 6lb, 11oz at 38+1.
Grace - Adorable bedding!! I already bought bedding...pink and brown! I am crazy. I actually was pg at the time, but in the 2ww. Walked into Pottery Barn Kids (where all 3 boys' baby bedding came from & LOVE) randomly one day, and found an adorable girl set with the colors I wanted (I wanted pink & brown because DS3 has brown accents and I can reuse his crib sheets and changing pad cover) that was on SALE! I still cannot believe I bought it, because a) I didn't know I was pg, b) I STILL don't know gender, c) they had a 30-day return policy, and d) it was not cheap! I am really hoping my crazy little whim pays off, because if not, DS4 will probably have to reuse DS3's bedding, and I will be so sad not to shop for my new baby boy! Unless I can somehow manage to sell the girl bedding for close to what I paid for it. What was I thinking?? Lol.
Waiting - Sorry you're still feeling so badly! Yuck! I am not throwing up, but feeling somewhat sicker this time. Just a seasick, swimmy-headed feeling that comes and goes. It is no fun!
AFM - Still feeling utterly exhausted. Did find out today that my thyroid meds need to be adjusted, though. Will start my new dose tomorrow, hoping that helps my energy level!
Rainbow I totally almost did a similar thing and almost brought a girls outfit in target. But I didn't want to jinx myself since I do know I'm pg, so I put it down.
Am I the only one with boys that love their dad more than their mum? I do EVERYTHING for them yet daddy is just the apple of their eyes!! In my house, the ds1 and 2 hierarchy of love goes:
1) daddy
2) the dogs
3) the chooks
4) themselves
5) anything else they can think of
6) mummy, but usually only if they are sick
*facepalm
I need a girl!
Bet she loves daddy more too, just my luck!
Oh that gives me hope. How soon after did u start dieting and running? Bcos i know this will be my last baby.. Im so motivated to loose my over hanging belly lol. Music is a good idea, im goin to try that. Ive never been one for running, ill have to slowly build up to it.
Does anyone plan to breastfeed?
OMG i really hope these numbers are accurate. In the past studies have shown about 60 or 70% i seem to remember. I didnt want to find out as the stats were not great but the tech just told me without even checking that we wanted to know. I wasnt annoyed though as she was so great about my age and risk etc.
Zebanee we are just a day apart so will be finding out at the same time unless you decide to go team green. Are you hoping for a girl or boy?
Meeks, my sister lent me an excellent book called raising boys by Steve Biddulf. It explains the psychology behind a lot of boy behaviour and their realtionship with mum, dad and siblings. It hasnt changed anything in my house (!?!) but it is nice to know that lots of the things that seem hurtful are necessary for them to grow up.
Re post baby body - i will be nearly 39 by the time this one has stretched my stomach to whale proportioons and will need something like a miracle to look nirmal again. I will try running and a sensible diet along with breastfeeding which has helped me lose weight in the past. Has anyone tried those stomach bandage girdle things? Someone on this site was raving about them a while ago but i cannot remember who.
Weight-wise I hope the size of my babies wont make them try to intervene more than normal here. Going by my two boys this baby will be about 9.2 even if it is a couple of weeks early. The average birthweight here is 7 lbs so i will have to make sure i make it clear that the average is much higher in the UK!
GET A BELLYBANDIT!!! They are so amazing - worth every penny! I didn't use one for DS1 and my stomach went back pretty fast, but with DS2 I used one and could tell the crazy difference. It gives so much support for your back too which I found wonderful since your abs are so weak right after. I raved about it to my friend and when she had her second baby used one and could not believe the difference it made - I really think it helps lots and I'll be strapping one on myself moments after the baby pops out :)
Thanks mrs blakely!
I'm in the other camp. Lose the belly weight dead quickly but bum and thighs, nightmare!
I am breast feeding. I breastfed all my boys for at least a year and breastfeeding turns my metabolism crazy fast where I eat all day, drop loads of weight and can't keep it on. Think I might be glad of it this time round though as I'm plumping out kind of early on!
Emily I think it your doc said girl it must have been fairly obvious to her. I think the nub shots can be pretty accurate if you get a good shot at a good gestation.
My boys are real sweetie pies but they have been wild this summer. Roll on back to school!

In reference to the nub theory discussion. Do I have a nub in this picture? It was taken at 11w3d. I never posted because I thought it was to early to do a nub but this last article showed a 70% success rate at the 11th week. Just thought I would check and see what you all thought. I don't see a nub at all but I am also at a complete loss on finding a nub on most scans. Sigh---anyway just wanted to know what everyone thought. Nub or no nub in this pic at 11w?
Rainbow-feel better soon. Feeling tired and nauseous is no bueno!
Emily-exciting dr thought it was a girl!
Meeks-I'm looking into that belly band for sure!
As far as weight loss after this baby I was just thinking of going on the LE diet again since I lost weight so fast I had to add a Twinkie to my sway!
Breast feeding for me is usually until 12 months or so. I normally just go with the babies timing on that. Although DS2 would have totally been happy to nurse even now (20 months) but after 13 months I decided it was one of the main reasons he was still not sleeping thru the night. If he cried I would nurse him for 2 minutes and he would go right back to sleep. Easy fix but wasn't good for my sanity!
Hey ladies!!
I'm due Feb 2nd. Time is draggggggging....lol. Waiting for my Maternit21 test results...I had it done Wed...they said 10 business days for results. So glad we're taking the boys to the beach this week...hoping it makes the waiting more tolerable. Ugh.
I wanted to go read back thru the thread, but there are 136 pages. LOL.
Hows everybody doing?? Hoping to see some old friendly faces here :)
I started by fast walking, then went further and faster slowly. Dont start too soon. With ds2 I was so motivated to loose it fast I started 6 weeks after my caserian, and it was too soon. I am convinced this is why i got mastitus so badly twice and that resulted in my giving up breastfeeding way earlier than I planned. Sure I lost the baby weight by 3 months after the birth (it took me a year with ds1) but at what cost, you know?
This time I plan to wait at least 10 weeks before dieting and maybe 12 or more before starting to walk. I want to give my breastmilk the best chance first.
So yes I plan to but have had so much trouble in the past, I'm trying to be realistic. 4 months with ds1 and 6 weeks with ds2 was all I achieved, and I would love to make it to 6 months or more but its torture for me.
Be careful, LE is very low nutrient and if you plan to breastfeed I think it would be a dangerous diet to do. You need more nutrients not less while breastfeeding and your energy levels will be shocking on le with a newborn.
ps no nub in that pic.
Atomic pointed out that studies like this are often done by techs that have been trained in nub theory and not the 'average' tech, so the stats would be better in the study than IRL. 12-13 weeks is still far more reliable for a nub shot.
Meeks- I won't start the diet until baby is well past 9 months or so. You are right the LE diet is a definite shock to the system so a baby only nursing for food would make the LE diet a major no no. Hopefully by 9 months or so baby3 is mainly on solid foods by then. I normally introduce solids around 6 or 7 months depending on their desire to maybe try it! DS2 was interested in baby food at 5 months and was shocked but went with it. Now he eats like a bird. DS1 eats everything in sight so I am hoping DS2 will catch up to that soon!
Nub pic-you are right on nub theory for 11 weeks. I just got excited after I read the article! I only have 4 more weeks to wait so I guess I should! Although the gender scan isn't booked yet! Eck!
Welcome Beadin Mom! I think I saw your nub shot guesses were pretty good for a girl!!!!! That's awesome!!!
