Hi 3boys, I'm not a fountain of knowledge or anything... Just been through this a few times and so have done loads of research!!
A large nt is just one marker for chromosome issues, likewise heart issues BUT does not necessarily mean either. I'm having a complete mental block but there is something that can cause a large neck measurement that is totally harmless and just resolves. Some babies, with measurements much much bigger than yours are born with a bit of floppy skin at the back of the neck don't worry it goes away) without any issues at all!
As for cvs and amnio its just worth mentioning that there is a non invasive blood test now available in the uk... It's horrendously expensive £500 for blood test and £150 for detailed scan, but its accurate and carries no risk to the baby. It's called the Harmony test. Where in the UK are you?
Another option you have is to go for a more detailed scan where they can look for things like the nasal none and blood flow etc... By doing this you get a better idea of odds.

3boys, I'm so sorry to hear about your scan. I cancelled mine a few days before because I knew I'd probably cause a miscarriage with worry if I got a positive. I've had so much anxiety this pregnancy it's unreal. When I was trying to make my decision about doing it or not I read COUNTLESS stories of NT measurements from 4-6mm all ending up with healthy babies. It can be such a scare, and the unknown is the worst. I really hope your bloodtest results come back perfect and that everything is fine. I haven't had a single scan yet at 16 weeks and am terrified for my 20 weeks scan. Making babies is seriously stressful! We are here for you to vent, and know that you aren't alone in your fear or worry! xo

Not sure when they will phone me? Considering it was late afternoon the bloods were taken, its probably unlikely that I will hear anything until at least Monday. They said they generally don't ring on Fridays with bad news because there is nothing they can do over the weekend.

I'm in limbo. If the odds are still high with the bloods, I will look into the harmony test (I live in Kent) but will probably have the amino?? I don't know. My heads all over the place. The worst part is I will still have to wait for the anomaly scan to rule out heart defects etc.

So instead of putting my mind at rest this scan has left me down and scared. I honestly wish I'd never gone and I was still blissfully ignorant. I just want to go to sleep and not wake up until the results are in.

Just looked at my NT results for the babe I lost at 13 weeks and his Nuchal was 0.9 so that was a fantastic result.I just can't win!

Does anyone know what exactly the blood work tests for? They tried to explain but I was crying! Thought I heard something about baby's protein emitted??? Even with a nuchal that high can the bloods really bring my odds down to a reasonable level?

The bloods show the levels of hcg and papp a, two hormones. Mine have always been rubbish so I'm also familiar with them... If they are bad they can be a marker for chromosome issue, placenta issue or nothing at all!!

The nhs typically only check the two bloods and the neck measurement so either way they prob won't dramatically effect odds. That's why it's worth going to have the scan with more details... They can then give you an adjusted risk based on far more factors!! Can you get to London? The fetal medical centre is where the professor who came up with this scan practices and they are the best there!!

I know it's next to impossible, but try not to worry. It really could be absolutely nothing, and there is a good chance that's the case!

I have my private gender scan in 4 hours I have been a wreck this week and it all comes down to this ... My last chance at a daughter which of course sounds even more selfish when I am lucky to have waist appears to he a healthy bub but I can't help it :(

Ill update later this afternoon hopefully they can tell at 16 weeks and I won't have to wait till 20 weeks . I will only believe a boy result and will double confirm at 20 if they say girl ????

3boys - I am so incredibly sorry for the results you got on your scan. I can imagine how scary that is. As Tree and Msblakely said, though, there are lots of people out there with positive scans whose babies are perfectly healthy. Will pray for you and your little sweet pea!

Smiley - Rest up...hope you feel better soon! I think I heard that about multiples, too. Aaahh!! My first checkup is July 18th (I'll be 8 wks). I guess we'll see then! :)

3boys-Hope you are able to make the time pass a little for the next couple of days. I know when I am anxious and worries the best thing for me is to stay really really busy. I can't imagine but hoping you can pass the time till you get some more answers. Still praying!

Still hour and half till my scan , I'm just thinking its a formality to confirm boy this is helping me I think ?

Still one more hour to think pink!!!! Lol, that is how I am feeling about my scan that is just over 3 weeks away.....have fun seeing your little baby!

3boys.....I know that our system is similar for making one worry over weekends especially when you wish that they would just put a rush on the bloodwork. Amnio is @16 weeks, or would they do it sooner?? I hope for a super busy weekend that keeps both your mind and body occupied. (((hugs)))
