How do you girls sleep at night? I often wake up because of discomfort. I roll from left to right hundred times and have a pillow under my belly. I feel like a whale and cannot sleep for more than 8 hours. I have started to think about my upcoming labor and if I should bring my boys. My mother wants to join too and my DS2. Are any of you going to bring others than your DH?

I lose count how many times I wake up at night! Constantly switching sides and if I roll over onto my back I'll wake up feeling sick and short of breath! I can't even recline on the lounge to watch tv. Have to lay on my side otherwise I feel like I'm going to black out and can't breathe :( seriously don't know how I'm going to cope the next 8 weeks! I'm so miserable all the time :( Gosh i couldn't imagine having anyone other than my husband at the brith. Luckily my mum will have to look after the boys for me, but even still I don't think she'd want to be there as she's very squeamish and would pass out at the sight of blood haha! I'd love for my older boys to be present but not sure at what age they'd let them in birthing suite...? My eldest will be 9 a few days after my due date.
Dream, I might have my sister in the room during labor (not sure yet), but never in a million years would I have my mom. She annoys me with everything she says or does related to this pregnancy. She is going to be pissed, but I am going to have a talk with her that I don't even want her at the hospital in waiting room (which she has already talked about camping out in waiting room). I will have a rule of no visitors till 2 hrs after birth.
I toss and turn at night too but still feel I get pretty decent sleep. I always get up once to pee too, but I usually did that when not prego too.
I am nervous what the next 9 weeks will bring in terms of getting bigger and more uncomfortable. Just for fun, I did try on a belly band someone gave me and I was shocked how comfortable it made me. I don't even have back pain or am that uncomfortable, but with the band on I noticed a huge different and literally felt not prego. I will definitely wear it when I exercise or am going to be on my feet a long time.
Thanks for your comments, girls. It is nice to know that I am not the only one feeling miserable and having bad nights. I also have this pain up under my ribs like baby is queezing herself up there. Good advice GirlieC about the belly band. I might get one.
I think time goes so slowly and I really look forward to get her out of my belly and into my hands. I really want to share the labour with the closest family. My 3 previous deliveries was nice, quick and easy, so I imagine this one will also be like this.
DH has been on my side the last 3 times, but is willing to give the space to my mother, who gave birth to my littlebrother at the age of 45. I like her to be part of this biggest moment in life. I also want to share it with DH and my 3 sons, but I am afraid that it will be to much for the boys and I don't really want them to look at me down there with blood and everything. So maybe it is better if their father wait with them outside the room near me. My labour might go really quick this time and I am afraid that it can happen in the car on our way to the hospital.

Sleeping is annoying, trying to stay on the left side is so hard.
Only 9 weeks to go though, so it's manageable.
We've got a rule about visitors, which no one is going to like.
The rule is "Don't call us, we'll call you"
If that is after a week, or even two, then deal with it :)

I've also had a whole big conversation with my Mum about sharing pictures on Facebook.
My DH isn't online at all, and I have one just for Mummy-to-be related things (have perhaps two pictures up on there, not a lot at all).
So I've asked my Mum if she could not post the photos of him on Facebook, and instead e-mail them to her friends etc.
Also...to add! I think this over protective thing is more common in first time Mums.
Because I see so many second, third time Mums being a lot more relaxed about who to have in the delivery room, picture sharing, visitors, holding the baby etc etc
MrsSparkles, you sound perfectly reasonable to me. The birth is exciting for everyone, but it's also happening to you. Afterwards, it's your body that needs to recover and you (and DH) that need to bond with the baby. You should have visitors as early or as late as you want.
Your baby's online presence should be up to you too. People who can't respect how I want pictures of my kids shared don't get to take any.
To be honest, I'm only getting more pushy with time about people respecting my boundaries. We had more visitors with DS1 than DS2, and I didn't even say anything when my ILs posted about my pregnancy on Facebook before I did. I honestly doubt we'll have any visitors until we're settled at home with baby #3.

Sparkles, I agree, you sound completely reasonable with both the no FB request and the "we'll call you." Having a baby, and our firsts, is a pretty big deal and we should be able to have a say in how things play out. I know what you mean though that family won't take it that way and I am sure I will piss some people off but whatever.
For me it has nothing to do with being protective of baby, in fact I rarely think of baby in the equation. For me it is about my privacy. We are very private people and I want to feel settled and ready for visitors both physically and mentally. When we bought our current house, we were in escrow for 2 months and only a week or so away from closing before I told my mom and family. We do that often with big life things. Just very private people.
My mom can annoy me like no other so I will be having advance conversations with her about things I don't want to discuss. She is the type to say out loud in front of everyone- "so did you tear a lot down there?". And she can't help but give her advice and opinion on everything even when not asked, like I am sure she will tell me I am breast feeding all wrong if she is in the room when I feed. Maybe she made me private because I dread her comments so much.
When I look back and think, I have made it 31 weeks it sounds like a long time, but then when I think I still have 9 weeks to go, that sounds like even longer some days. Glad I left the shower and babies room and some household projects till the end so they will hopefully keep me busy and make time go by faster (but also stressed I will run out of time). I can't wait for this group to start having their babies.

HAHA- I do think we have the same mom for sure!! It is amazing that at 36 years old my mom still embarrasses me with the things she says. It has been really rough these past 10 weeks since I told her I am pregnant. She upsets me often. I had to send her an article about the "worst things to say to new parents" to try and get her to understand. It is a little better, but not wonderful. I just realized, it is pretty clear I have "mommy issues"....haha. Maybe why I wanted a daughter so bad...to have a chance at establishing a more normal mother daughter relationship. I hear other people who want to be just like their mom and I can't relate...my motivation comes to do whatever I can to be the opposite of my mom. I cringe when I do anything that remind me of my mom.
That was my motivation for agreeing with my DH to have children. My mom is like both of yours but with the added bonus of mental health issues as well!! I'm nothing like my mom as a parent! I was opposite though- I didn't want to have a DD for fear I would become my mom. Now that I've been a parent for 6 years, I see clearly that having a daughter will not be an issue!!Quote:

I would say both. While I am not abusive to my children (emotional or physical), I have found that I can have a short temper at times. In these moments, I make a conscious decision to take a few moments (15-30sec) before I respond. Sometimes I have to take a few deep breaths. My children know that I'm upset when this happens, and then I respond. I also am self reflective with them. I make mistakes too, but in the moment I reflect with them on what I could have done differently. I believe self reflection is taught and not inherent. Doing this means much more than an, "I'm sorry".Quote:

I think being self aware is a huge factor to changing any behavior. My mom is notorious for giving the silent treatment when mad. Could be days, weeks, months or even years. She didn't talk to my sister for 5 years over something. I hated it growing up and learned how unhealthy that was and I can honestly say I never do that. Hubby and I might go a few hours or even a day if we are mad, but then I insist on talking things out and moving forward. He knows I don't believe in the silent treatment because of my mom.Quote:

Gosh. Your moms sounds like a challenge and share some similarities. Now I see why you won't have her near you while giving birth. My mother can also embarrash me with the things she says, but it is never her purpose to offend or make you angry. She does so because she dosen't have much sense of situation. She has actually managed to improve and now think more before she talks.

We have the same rule too. I don't want any people hanging around until we are home and settled. Regardless of first or 5th baby, this is a very personal special time for hubby and the boys to bond with Bub. There's one friend in particular that drives me mental. She'll just walk right up to me and take the baby out of my arms without even asking. Pisses me off so much!! I'm very protective immediately after birth and anyone other than hubby I don't really like touching the baby. Some may think that's weird but that's just how I feel. Love those hormones haha!
The kids have gone back to school now after school holiday break and I'm getting tonnes of stupid comments. Two people in one day asked me if its still a girl ugh!!! And another mum had to tell me that they told her one of her sons was a girl and it popped out another boy. I really wish people would keep their mouths shut sometimes! Oh and one of the teachers asked how much longer to go and I said 7 weeks 4 days, she replied with " oh you've still got AGES!" Ffs thanks for reminding me lol
Haha, those stupid comments made me laugh because it really amazes me the things people have the nerve to say to pregnant woman. I am finding so many in my life are secretly doctors because they always want to tell me "oh you shouldn't do that when you are pregnant" or "it is okay to eat whatever you want- your pregnant." The worst part is most that say things are other mother's...I just don't get it.Quote:

So I am confused...shortly after I announced, my mom said she wanted to throw me a baby shower. I said okay but that we wanted it at our house. She thought that was weird and we should have it somewhere else but we just bought a nice house a year and half ago and it is great for gatherings so why go rent a place when our house is good (no one else in the family has a house big enough to host it). She also thought it was weird that we wanted it co-ed for hubby's friends and a BBQ theme- like casual, not really baby shower.
Anyway she has been stressing about details and we have been talking about what I want in terms of colors and theme but then all of sudden she asked yesterday if I am going to be paying for everything, like food and supplies. Ummm....I guess I thought if she was hosting the party for me (even if it is at my house) that she would pay for stuff. If I am going to pay for all the supplies then what part of it is "her throwing me the shower". I hate conflict but I don't know what to say to her.
I would just say it like it is but very gently- you don't want to make things worse but you need to be clear.
I would say you apologize for throwing her for loop by wanting the party at your house. Explain to her your reasonings for wanting it there. Also, let her know your DH is excited to be a first time parent and wanted to be involved too. His friends are equally excited for him and you didn't think it was a big deal to include them. Let her know that while this may not be a "traditional" baby shower, this is how everyone could be included. I would tell her that she most definitely can still plan the party, etc. If she doesn't want to pay for things, then you will take over the planning.
It's hard when people's expectations don't fit the reality of things. It seems your mom had an idea of what a baby shower should be, without taking you and your personality into consideration.

Hi, I'm a bit late to join this forum... we did a kinda sorta pink sway (Rephresh + 3 day cutoff) and the 21 week scan indicated that it's a girl. Waiting for confirmation from a 4D elective scan at the beginning of June before I get too excited, because after three boys, I'm really struggling to believe that the tech got it right! It seems altogether too surreal to have turned up the other side of the coin after four pregnancies and nearly seven years...
Edited to add: baby numero quattro is due August 28th.

Ah, sneaky baby! Mummy I think that is funny you haven't bought much but your mom has...that is the same for me. Even the things we did register for are not "girly". I am confident it is a girl, but I am just not into pink and pretty. Our swing, bouncer, play pen, car seat, stroller...all those bigger items are grey. We wanted gender neutral so we can use them again if need be.
Third trimester is proving to be pretty hard on me emotionally. First trimester theme was throwing up...second trimester was smooth sailing and forgot I was even pregnant most of the time...third trimester has been all emotions and getting fat. I cry just about every day which is so unlike me so I hate it. I was so stable and strong emotionally the first 30 weeks so this is coming as a real surprise to be so unstable. It is causing issues in my marriage and at work but I am doing my best. Talked to doc and she has no concerns of actual depression, just thinks it is normal hormones.
Just about 7 more weeks to go and now I really don't care if I am ready or prepared...I just want time to go by fast so I can get this over with. Looking forward to my baby showers in the coming weeks so I know what I still need to buy and can feel a bit more prepared. Hind sight, I should have done the shower by the 32/33 week mark instead of the 35/36 week mark, but it is what it is. Hope everyone else is doing good.
GirlieCat, sorry you're feeling crap. I didn't get any relief in the second trimester, felt sick from 5 weeks just want it to be done with! :( 5 weeks 6 days to go...I feel bad wishing away this pregnancy but I'm having a hard time enjoying it when I feel so sick, tired and sore! And I feel guilty for having such a short fuse with the kids lately :(
I seems like many of us are miserable and feeling like crap. For me this pregnancy has also been a challenge in terms of fatigue, nausea, weight gain, crappy nightsleep, indisposition & overall exhaust. In the end of the day I collapse like I have been doing a marathon. I feel like I am 70 years. Thank God there is only six weeks left and I can quit my job in two weeks and go on maternity leave. Wishing all of you ladies strenght & good spirit in the final spurt of your pregnancies.

38 days til due date...but who's counting lol. Hope like hell I don't go overdue like last time ugh! Feel like total shit :(
114 for me :( Feels like a lifetime. Still queasy at almost 24 weeks and so sick of feeling sick.
34 days...getting crankier by the day! Hips getting worse and lots of Braxton hicks. Hopefully that's a good sign for a quick labour. Can only hope
I was just thinking, when the first photo of a newborn goes up in this thread it's gonna be REAL.
Feeling slightly freaked out now, that there are only 5 days my DH has off to do jobs, as he works 6 days a week.
Hoping he can get it all done, the house is still in disarray and in need of completion (painting and decorating that has been started but not finished)

How is everyone going? Not long now for some of us :) I'm so ready to have this baby lol! 36+2 and counting...I delivered DS1 at exactly this gestation almost 9 years ago. My husband and mum think I'm going to deliver early because I'm so huge this time, but I think she's going to go overdue just to prove a point haha! Will be such a relief to not feel so sick and miserable 24/7
Hi Mummy, you are getting so close! I am 35+1 and getting a bit anxious. I want so much to have her early but only a week or two. I need her to stay in till about 38w so I have more time to prepare (mostly at work). I think the not knowing is the worst. I really am not prepared with stuff either. Have baby shower on Saturday and then I can finally go through and see what I need, wash clothes and blankets, install the car seat and pack my hospital bag.
Question for you ladies, what items are really necessity- playpen, swing, bouncer, rock-n-play? Can't decide what is best for a bedside sleeper until she moves to crib. Plus we have two story house so I need something for downstairs too.

I showered or bathed with them from birth, especially nice for skin to skin and encouraging breastfeeding. When they were old enough to sit, I'd just bathe them in the tub lol.

Yipeee, we are all so close now. My maternity leave started this week. Feel amazing to be able to relax and not think about work for the next year or more. Have been to see the midwife. Everything looks good. She estimates baby to be 2600 gram which is great. My 3 sons were around 3 kilo at birth - she will probably be the same.
Looking so much forward to giving birth and seeing her.

I had my midwives appt yesterday at 37 +1 and she said I'm measuring full-term 40 weeks...can anyone tell me what he heck that means?? I didn't think to ask at the time as I was feeling pretty sick. She said as I was leaving that hopefully I'll go early.
