PCOS and TTC girl in November <3

I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) May 11,2012. I have no symptoms of it what so ever, except I don’t ovulate. I’m 24, 5’2” and 112 pounds; I don’t suffer from acne, excessive hair growth or any other symptom so it came to a complete surprise to me. My fiancé is 28, we’re getting married in September (its coming so fast!!) I’ve always had irregular, excruciating periods. I’ve bled so much that I get dizzy and pass out (I found out that is from a Vitamin K deficiency) My doctor has me on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo until October, he said if we don’t get pregnant by January to come in and he’ll prescribe Clomid. I know I should just dream of having a healthy baby, regardless the gender but my fiancé is dreaming of pink and so am I. A little background of his family, he’s 1 of 5 boys. His Mom finally gave up after the 5 th boy. His Dad has 1 sister and 1 brother. Both of his brothers who have kids, have had boys. I keep reading that it is possible but I want to better my chances. I know that if I can get pregnant, I’ll be happy with whichever gender my little bundle is but we’d really like to have a girl. My fiancé is willing to participate in whatever he has to do to raise our chances as well. He is so supportive of the dream of pink!

Has anyone here successfully swayed pink with PCOS?

okay I thought I would start some questions in my original thread then going on and on in the Clomid thread. I've read that BCPs sway girl and then when and if I get on Clomid that sways girl as well. I could have sworn I seen somewhere that it said when you're on Clomid with PCOS to not really do other swaying techniques. PCOS came to me as a complete surprise, I was reading about swaying before I was diagnosed. I know I shouldn't be selfish and sway but I feel like I need a girl so to speak. Here's how I found out with PCOS. I went for a consultation to meet my new doctor (who I LOVE) we talked about how excruciating my periods have been, painful, losing more blood than normal... he had me get a lot of blood tests done and had me retake them at a different time in my cycle. Blood tests came back "very consistant with PCOS" so then we did an u/s. I seen all of my follicles 3 days after my period had ended and they were all so big. I am now starting my second month of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I'm quitting it in October. I go back to the doctor August 6th for my annual and to talk more about the PCOS. My main question is, since I don't have all of the other symptoms of PCOS, could my sway be easier? What should my diet be like? I starting tracking calories today... did terrible :( also, I have NO idea when I ovulate! I will do anything to understand PCOS better and help our way. I'm really debating on doing the personal sway but paying for the wedding and the up and coming mortgage, I'm just trying to gather some information before I spend the money. This is also my way to cope, I love reading the sucess stories on here :)

1)Yep, coming off BCP are believed to sway pink by shrinking the cervical crypts that make EWCM. Less EWCM = higher chance of a girl.

3) There are actually a lot of sway tactics you can use while you have PCOS - Vitex, Saw Palmetto, baby aspirin, jellies, anithistamine, diet, etc The Clomid is really the complicating factor because you can't

4)You do have to tweak the diet just a bit when you have PCOS. I'm working on a thread about diet with PCOS specifically but haven't had time to finish it unfortunately. The main difference is that you need to avoid empty cals like sugary snacks, increase protein slightly to 50-60 g, and limit your grain intake to 2-3 servings a day of whole grains.

I have been keeping a running thread in the "review my sway" section. It's turned into more of a journal and experimenting log than anything else. I had a miscarriage in March which was the result of a practice sway (not intending to sway, but testing everything else) and since then, my husband and I have been very, very cautious about avoiding pregnancy and we're both scared to really sway or try to conceive again.

I'm doing a lot of things that aren't very girl sway friendly (working out, on a fruit/veg/protein shake diet, no carbs minus fruit, etc) because these things seem to help my testosterone to stay lower, but I'm still very symptomatic of PCOS: weight loss resistance, hirsutism, oily skin, acne, etc.

I'm taking all girl friendly supplements though because they help with PCOS. I'm also experimenting with some things that haven't totally been tired here.

I'm basically in the search to balance both testosterone and estrogen. Too much testosterone damages egg quality and estrogen can too, but one of its biggest impact is on progesterone. If there is too much or too little estrogen, progesterone levels usually aren't very good, especially not enough to sustain a pregnancy. One of my main symptoms of being progesterone deficient is soaking night sweats after ovulation, usually 7-9 days before my period starts.

Anyway, if your doctor doesn't put you on metformin at some point, I would be surprised, especially if s/he knows you will be trying to conceive and your cycles are irregular.

The thing that helped me return to normal cycles is a combination of metformin and Vitex. I was on that for the longest time before I introduced saw palmetto.

About your boys in the family question, I don't think an all boys or all girls family means the same will happen for the next generation, but if I were you, I would definitely do everything I could to have a healthy pregnancy and conceive that girl. :)

Thank you for that. I just wish I understood my PCOS more. I don't have those symptoms. Only symptom is the irregular cycles. I go back on August 6th so I have some time to come up with questions. Will they prescribe Metformin if my blood sugar is normal?

Yes, it's worth it because no one is predestined to have all of one gender by virtue of genetics. You have kids of a particular gender because your body sizes up cues in your environment and "decides" which gender has the best shot of surviving to pass down your genes to future generations. When the environment changes, your body may "decide" that a different gender has a better shot at survival. A person who couldn't alter gender ratio would be at a HUGE disadvantage to those who could, and so it's extremely likely that we all carry the genes to alter gender ratio based on cues from our environment and not some genetic setting. A gene pool that could only produce boys would have died out a long time ago, the first time Genghis Khan or his primate equivalent, came to town and killed off all the males (which sadly has happened a zillion times over the ages).

Plus, what the man brings to the table, while it can make a difference, simply can't be that important because in nature, it's the female who has to carry a baby, nurse a baby, and then raise a child. Males can do a "hit and run" and then never be seen again. Since the child will share the mother's environment and not the father's, it's the signals that your body received that matter, not what your husband contributes to the equation.

It depends on your doctor, to be honest. I have mild symptoms of insulin resistance, but not enough to be very obvious/serious for metformin. It was in combination with everything else (irregular periods, heavy periods, and all the other terrible symptoms I have) that I was given metformin. It can be prescribed just based on your symptoms alone, especially if your blood tests are consistent with PCOS, even if you don't have any of the other symptoms that go along with PCOS. Metformin usually encourages fertility and also encourages egg health.

Thank you for the condolences. It still isn't easy, but I'm learning to cope with the emptiness. My hCG was really high right away (894 at around 13 dpo - I thought it was 1000, but got my blood work recently and it was 894) so I was hoping the spotting was just something else, but alas. It wasn't meant to be. The progesterone level never went above 4, and it needs to be 10 or higher to sustain pregnancy.

If I could give any advice to girls with PCOS, regardless of swaying, it would be to try to balance your testosterone levels as much as you can before you TTC. If your testosterone is balanced, most likely the estrogen will follow. Even if your testosterone is normal-ish, your androgen activity is still messing up your cycles so tame that (or tame it as much as possible) and hopefully your body will be ready to create healthier eggs and a healthy uterine environment.

Oh and my friend was given Metformin to improve her egg quality, and she did not even have insulin resistance or PCOS, she just gained a lot of weight while doing IVF drugs and the doctors were concerned because her egg quality was really low even tho she was only 29. The cycle after she started the Metformin, she got pg with her daughter!!

The herbs and medications can help with that. The vitex, saw palmetto, in addition to Metformin, Clomid, and a drug called spirolactone which can help lower your T levels but is not safe while TTC. Also, if you lower your blood sugar a bit through diet, lower blood sugar can help slow down the Testosterone Train and free up the fats and cholesterol your body makes and gets from diet, to make prog.

Metformin and Clomid can be given together so you may end up getting both.

There are home tests you can take but they're not very reliable, it's best to go through your doctor.

Thanks again... I'm going to work on my diet plan tomorrow. I've been watching what I eat as well as waiting as long as possible to eat and not eating til I'm full. I did forget about my pill 3 days in a row and had a spontaneous BD yesterday. Oh well... whatever happens, I just have to deal. No big O though.

Any help with reading my test results? I go back August 6th but wondering if I could get some knowledge here so I ask him better questions :)

I'm not sure I'm qualified to read/interpret them but I'm hoping some of the other PCOS ladies will be able to help.
