Iteresting theory...would love an answer to this one...
it also lowers pH, but does contain a fair few calories
I remember reading somewhere that it was good for the DH but not the DW. Can't remember why:worry:

*Alcohol - this is another controversial one. Alcohol raises estrogen while lowering testosterone. So just like soy, alcohol may sway blue for women while swaying pink for men. And wine and beer have a lot of other nutrients in them as well as calories, so may help maintain muscle mass, not what you want to do.~Atomic
Alcohol lowers sperm count.
I'm not talking about alcohol for DH as I am using a friend as a donor. I just love a whisky with a diet cherryade. :nails:
That's the conventional swaying wisdom but since I first wrote that I have had a change of mindset about it.
I now think that it tends to sway pink by reducing overall fertility. We don't KNOW how estrogen and other hormones even sway, it's all just guessing. Declining maternal condition for any reason seems to sway pink and alcohol DEFINITELY reduces maternal condition.
So pleased to read that atomic - Gin and Tonic (slim line of course) is in order tonight! :)
Thanks, it's great to know I can drink. I love rum & whisky!
I drink Budweiser Select 55 beer when I want a beer. The 55 calories in a 12 oz bottle isn't going to hurt anything and it still tastes like beer to me, so that's what I am using for my pink sway.
I have a theory that different alcohols sway different ways. Beer and wine = blue. Vodka and Gin = Pink....obviously to do with calories or something that's where i'm coming from
Most of the alcoholics I know with babies have girls and they drink cider or vodka. Not sure how whisky sways.
princessreader, why do you think beer sways blue? Do just the regular or heavy calorie craft beers sway blue or do even the light beers sway blue too?
I tend to see lager drinkers have more boys, but I've not known a Guiness drinker to have a boy. Perhaps stout sways girl and lager sways boy?
I don't think it sways very much unless you have estrogen dominance or something drastic.
Lots and lots of studies on RED WINE being beneficial to women to prevent breast cancer because it binds to estrogen floating around (aromatize or something scientific), so that estrogen is bound up...and thus more testosterone that would of converted into estrogen is now free to roam your blood******.
The Effects of Red Wine and White Wine on Blood Estrogen and Progesterone Levels
But that is the IF hormones sway, and furthermore, every single woman is different and without bloodwork, you don't know your estrogen/testoserone/progesterone levels....I think its one of those things that affects everyone different so make the best judgment call based on what you did in the past etc.
Yes...I think by the blood glucose. yes alcohol affects hormones but in a way a flea on a giant hairy gorilla's back would. Theres gonna be MORE estrogen if you have LOTS of testosterone, so the goal is to decrease the testosterone to ensure less estrogen, is the way I thnk of it. Am I thinking of this properly?
They talk about the blood glucose and alcohol use here:
Alcohol's Effects on Hormones
I need an essay on "vices" and swaying (it's on my to do list which has now reached Santa-length proportions and so who knows when I'll get to it) but just real quickly, I think that the general principle of declining maternal/paternal condition outweighs the "may raise estrogen" concerns when it comes to things like booze and smokes LOL
I have *abandoned* the high estrogen theory...and it may be annoying to beat a topic to death (uhh..ME!!) because it dawned on me that perimenopausal women ARE estrogen dominant naturally and statistically hve more daughters so it doesn't add up. The estrogen theory is now in bed with the calcium theory.
thats a good point. Im 36 this year but bet I still get a boy lol and i certainly am not trying when im 45 or anything lol.
Wonder what the boy to girl ratio is for pre menopausal women? I know we hear it a lot but where are the statistics.
Im not convinced the diet will work for me but cutting out red meat may do, as i stated somewhere else, i was starving myself when i got ds1 and 2 but still had a bit of red meat here and there.
My mom hated red meat and she had 4 girls, so maybe i go down that root
what do you all think?
I too had a couple boys while losing weight, eating very poorly. HOWEVER, I do think for women who wish to ttc girl after lotsa boys...you HAVE to cover all the bases. Meaning a SOLID LE diet and focus on that blood sugar and losing weight. Blasting sperm. Getting DH to take the LR. Using acijel/rephresh. TAking the Vitex and saw palmetto/baby aspirin etc. The things we KNOW sway pink and do ALL of them. Being in a place of peace before ttc because you knew you did all you can do.
ps I have some statistics on that someplace on here can anyone post links???
OKAY stop the wedding!! I went for a brief look on Google and it seems older women do not have more girls...its the paternal age that is the factor.
What gender do I think they will have from being perimenopausal and naturally higher in estrogen in relation to progesterone which declines much more drastically? I can't answer that until I see something that says older women actually DO have more girls. Or something that indicated that higher progesterone=more DDs.
You would have to know the woman. For example...if you have a 40 year old who is naturally kinda wound up tight personality...she ~may~ drink more wine than another 40 year old woman as a coping skill. She ~may~ have more boys the average person. Is the alcohol the thing that is swaying? NO!!
Alternatively, you ~may~ have another 40 year woman who does not regulate her blood sugar very well due to genetics/her hormones/her diet. She drinks alcohol during the ttc time period and pops out a girl. Was this due to the alcohol? ~maybe just a little ~
Why are we all 40 in this scenario, I have no idea.
Thanks ladies, I just love reading all the hypothesis on swaying! Fab discussion :)

there are no sure things - only things that may help a bit. you can get a girl eating a side of beef a day and a boy eating cranberries and rice cakes.
It's NOT any of these things that is swaying, it's what is happening in your body. Declining vs. improving maternal condition. The sway tactics are a means to an end, not the end itself.
I drank vodka with low sugar cranberry juice at night before I conceived my DD. only one or two small glasses. And with this DD, before I conceived her I would have a glass or two of white wine at night once kids were in bed. Or one or two very light beers. Sometimes a vodka and low sugar cranberry drink when I got closer to my sway. I think it sways girl! Wasn't drinking at all when conceived my DS.
interesting! but...how do you manage the combo alcohol+antihistamines? is it not a dangerous combination?
After my two boys (where I didn't drink much at all) I started drinking 2-3 drinks a day/evening for about a year and now I am carrying a girl... I am also 4 years older too (now I am 38) so who knows which one helped but I don't think the alcohol hurt.
I hate red meat, don't eat it and I got 4 boys lol so that's not my problem, BUT I think if someone consumes a lot of it then it wouldn't hurt to cut back when swaying pink, since my lifestyle sways more pink then anything but yet I keep popping out boys then this last time I completely changed my lifestyle up which coincidentally sways blue haha so I will see if that works
As for alcohol I don't know lol I know more people with girls then boys so I can say those that drink have more girls but wouldn't be a fair guess since I know more with girls lol I think if you keep with low calorie ones, don't consume a lot (to keep calories low) then it would sway girl, unless you skip supper and consume those calories in alcohol lol but I wouldn't recommend doing that for long or if you have a household and kids to tend too haha
