If Timing Doesn't Sway...

Why do some think only one attempt is best for TTC girl? I feel like most people who are actively TTC are doing more than one attempt in their fertile window and 50% of the population are still getting girls.. why is it that we *might* be seeing better results with only one attempt rather than multiple? (I read that somewhere from Atomic)

Now I'm trying to decided if I should just do 1 attempt again, even though I really want this month to be the month!

(And I know that Timing and amount of attempts are different.. but they are all similar is ways, right?)

one attempt might sway most simply because there are less swimmers in there in total and we know that low sperm count sways pink
you don't know how many pregnancies are from those who are actively TTC and how many are NTNP or surprises, or what else people are doing in general that might influence it

So do we think in general more attempts equals higher likelihood of boy regardless of FR? I know with my first 2 DS's I had a good 5-6 attempts all the the fertile window. I also wasn't doing a diet or anything else that might sway pink

I did abstain for about a month and then very day for three days with a two or three day cut off

in general I'd think so, BUT I don't think the results we've had indicate that one attempt sways more

I do think that lots of attempts sways boy, I had two boys by bd'ing lots and lots. I've heard that planned babies are more likely to be boys, while accidents are more likely to be girls. I've not seen any studies or evidence that backs that up, but going by friends there seems to be something to it.

With my first we DTD every day for an entire month before and right through O. That would also lower sperm count as it has no real time to replenish.

Both of my boys were OHWs the night before ov with roughly a 7 day abstain, hence my reluctance to go down that road again! However, FR doesn't work for us so we're going with the flow then will DTD from OPK+ right through.

I have 2 daughters, both from one BD each, one on O day, one 4 days before O (not swaying). Both my boys were from multiple BDs in the fertile window.

Multiple attempts makes more sperm present in the reproductive tract, and more sperm = more boys.

When I think of friends with kids it seems to fit... but again, so many factors unseen (when they actually O'd, if what they say is true etc.) But I'm so reluctant to do multiple attempts when both my boys were done that way. We're thinking maybe 1 attempt 3-4 days before O, then one at + OPK.. or just one at +opk. But, I hate to do that again as last month one attempt didn't work..

My three boys were I shot deals so I wanted to switch it up a little for myself

I have a question. DH and I are planning a trip to Vegas in May and are hoping to come back pregnant:) We will be planning the trip around my ovulation. so since we are swaying for a girl, could we abstain for 7-10 days before the trip, could we then DTD 2 or 3 times a day for the 2 or 3 days we are there?? Would the sway girl still?

Anyone??

YES...that would defo lower count but maybe have him not release inside you for all the attempts, if you want to be super strict.

Thank you. I do have an added complication him not being "allowed" to release outside of me because of religious reasons...so just trying to wrap my head around the best way to do this. Thank you again!

OH! Well in that case, what about using an acijel or rephresh close to some the "sessions"? It would just suck not getting pregnant though, after all that action ;)

I know!! Aci-jel is a good thought. I did use that when swaying with my daughter...hmm thanks for the tip!

Goodluck! I find it's so hard to know what to do because everyone does everything so differently and are all getting different results. I guess it's just what works best for you as a couple, and what makes you feel like you gave it the best shot with what you had. If you're wanting to get pregnant on that trip, and all releases have to be inside you then you have to do that! Aci-jel or rephresh is a good idea though.. I might think of using that if I decided to do an extra attempt in the fertile window :)

It was almost two years ago but here's what I remember. I DTD 4-5 days before O and inserted the aci-jel 2-3 days after that. I forget how much I used. Hope that helps?!

Several attempts sway boy because each attempt raises ph. Semen has a high ph and it raises the vaginal ph. So you start your next session already with a high ph. I highly recommend FR or dtd with condom to lower sperm count! HTH!

you can use RepHresh to lower the pH between "sessions"! and J&D with the SET very quickly can help too

What does SET mean?
If I wanted to do more than one attempt (max 2) and the first time was done with rephresh used a day or so before and then a J&D after, does that not help with lowering the numbers of sperm that make it (considering we're also doing FR - it'd be about 6 days of FR by attempt 1 (CD12) and then next attempt would be around +OPK.. probably 2 days later? (CD 14 OR 15)

I think I'll feel better about this month if I do more than one attempt but I definitely don't want to raise my odds for boy by having several attempts so wondering if these measures would help counteract those potential problems?

Well I believe that the Rephresh/Acijel/Replens work not by pH (I don't believe pH sways unless it is like due to a raging BV infection/yeast infection where it is so high/low/weird that normal conditions aren't present and you prob shouldn't be having sex anyway lol) but due to that fact that they make it difficult for the sperm to survive/swim quickly etc. Thats just me but I know alot of ladies include pH in their sway. Anyway, Mrs Blakely, idk about your 2 attempts...I guess psychologically, I would be inclined to space them as close together as possible if max odds of pg are desirable...cut-offs make me nervous (but I'm old) and if he's doing FR anyway, it doesn't really matter WHEN they are, if that makes sense. Also, if you are reducing the sperm so much on that FIRST attempt, you may as well just have ONE attempt closer to the actual O. Thats JMO and good luck :)

One attempt is less sperm than many attempts. Whether it is 5 days before O or the day of O, one attempt is less sperm than 2-3 attempts TYPICALLY. Now, there can be exceptions to this (such as a guy who releases every 2-4 days and takes supps to up sperm production can def. have a high number from just one attempt, while a guy doing FR can have 2-3 attempts and have not much) but that's the general principle.

I'm planning on doing an attempt at +OPK, it's just last time I never saw a positive. So this time I was thinking about having an attempt around day 13, incase I O on day 14 as I have a 28 day cycle.. but then keep testing incase I get an +OPK late in which I'd also do an attempt at +OPK. Just curious if I'm upping my chances of boy by having more than 1 attempt?

I would go opposite of what you did to conceive your boys. Three of my boys were one attempt in the fertile window one of my boys was lots of attempts in fertile window on a high soy and protein, low carb diet and my girl was in the fertile window and lots of attempts...like 5-6 a day. :oops:(I was twenty and we hadn't seen each other for a couple of weeks.:oops:)I also had three jobs, very little sleep, and was on the starving student, no meat diet!

I am a good example of why timing/frequency doesn't sway that much:
Boy #1: Abstinance with one shot deal (DH was visiting his parents prior)...total accidental pg, I believe we had a cut-off

Boy #2: Lots and lots of BD, multiple attempts before +opk and during and after (just had m/c, wanted to be pg quickly)

Boy #3: Perfect boy frequency, every 2 days...::snooze:: and did a cut-off in a light attempt for a girl

Boy #4: I think we DTD very frequently, would take a couple days off and go again frequently...another mystery pregnancy...was not tracking O

Boy #5: One attempt about 2 days before +opk, 3 days before +opk then one attempt THREE days after my +opk (scratch my head how I got pg there)

SO for me to do something different than with my boys is nearly impossible. LOL. I thnk my point is...go with the logic and YOUR body...low sperm=DDs and if you are a highly fertile woman (like...my DH's sperm are practically airborne, they can do gymnastics too), I would comfortable doing one attempt. If your DH's sperm can't do leaps across the room, and your body doesn't seem to be the ideal sperm incubator, then do more than one attempt.

I think we may have been seeing a trend in that direction actually. One attempt seems more successful to me - I have not sat down and counted but that has been my impression over the last couple months.

I think that would be ok. If you use the RepHResh and stuff it's not going to be lots of sperm surviving to get to the egg.

We are doing FR so DH is releasing on the days that we aren't BD. We BD today (CD13) and I had last used rephresh on CD10 so I'm hoping a small amount was still around. I haven't used antihistamines this month but so far I've had zero CM so I hope that also helps with the extra BD. DH will be still doing FR until +OPK in which we'll have one more attempt (unless it's tomorrow morning I get a positive and we'll probably just stick to one) hope this sounds good!
