Question which I would like to lay to rest for me

OK on the "other site" years ago, I asked if LATENT toxoplasmosis (meaning you picked it up somewhre down the line but never had full blown symptoms but carry the anitbodies) swayed boy. The response I got was something like this:

sways boys if you have it but not if you already had it.

SO I tried to find the answer on my own. And I haven't found one ~really~. I know I have had this exposure to toxo

If yoiu could read the following 2 studies abstract and just tell me what you think based on that, or what you think otherwise.

LOL...I know. What is fact is that if you have it, there is huge percentage of boys but I don't know if you were exposed 20 years ago, matters or not.

So I have boys because I had cats? Because I have heard a lot of cat owners get the toxoplasmosis without knowing it.

Rosie...I don't want to alarm anyone because in my mind its more of the feral cats that eat rats in warm climates type thing, so hungry they scavenge, ykwim?

I think there is something to it.

How do we know if we've had it? I've had 3 cats over the last 20 years and have had 2 live with us since before having kids. We don't use litter trays though.

most cases do not even come from cats
you can also get it from rare meat and garden veg

even just from dirt

they can do a titre on you but there is no treatment if you had it years ago

I guess there's no point in worrying about it anyway, but interesting nonetheless. There's nothing we can do about it if we have had it in the past. Does it potentially sway blue if it's a current or recent infection?

Thats what I am wondering too DreamofPink...all I can figure out is its current they YES but what about a while ago. Surely after time the antibodies would decrease?? IDK

I don't know about swaying, but it is dangerous to be pregnant with toxoplasmosis! It can really hurt the baby. One member on here, I remember, tested positive during her pregnancy, and had a boy, and luckily he was a healthy baby. Don't know how long she had the infection, though.

From what I understand, the early phase of latent infection sways boy. The more recently you have been infected, the more chance you have of having a boy. I read something recently that said that eventually the sex ratio goes back to being 50/50 after you have been infected for a long time, so that's why countries like France where a high proportion of the population is infected don't have skewed sex ratios.

I know 2 women who contracted toxoplasmosis in childhood, one has 2 boys and a girl, the other has one girl.

I would like to know if I am infected as I get very paranoid about it when I'm pregnant. I organised a test once but chickened out at the last minute. I was afraid it would say I wasn't infected and that would increase my paranoia about contracting it during pregnancy. I've since read more about it and the effects it can have on personality, so now I wouldn't like to find out that I'm infected. I've had cats and I love rare meat so there is a good chance that I am.

Good question. My sister had that when she was little.

And she has a son. Not sure if there's any connection there.

I looked up cat scratch fever. It looks to be different

And I've had that for sure LOL...it was my armpit got a huge lump. My mom was cat rescue in Hawaii growing up

This is probably way different.. but would having a tick borne illness be similar? I had Lyme Disease and still have the antibodies. Does that sway?

possibly. i couldn't find anything on it but some diseases do sway.

i was exposed during pg but never got sick, prob because i had already had it.
