Vitex AF-AF-O?? (Atomic please could you help?)

Hi Atomic, I have already had a lot of great help from harleyquinn, but I would really appreciate your view too, if that’s ok?

I have recently read on the forum how Vitex and Saw Palmetto can increase your chances of a girl sway. So at the beginning of this AF I started taking both; 320mg daily of saw palmetto and 800mg daily of vitex (hope these amounts are correct).

We were hoping to make our first attempt this month, but have decided to wait and try and maximize the benefits of both supplements before we try next month instead. (then hopefully no regrets if the sway is not successful).

Do you think it would be a good idea to take both supplements AF-AF-O, and try our attempt when I get next months first +opk? Or keep to what I’ve seen you advise and take both supplements starting this AF-O and then take it again next month AF-O and then ttc?

I am nearly 37, have 2 boys, 5 and half and 2 and half, so I really want to get pregnant as quickly as possible so the age gap isn’t too big between 2 and 3. I have also read that vitex and saw palmetto might delay or mess up my cycle which I think is why you recommend taking just from AF-O?! I really don’t want to delay next months ov, but also I want to do everything I can for my sway, so its difficult to know what to do for the best.

I would really appreciate your thoughts and any advice (I am approaching this months Ov already, so I need to make a decision quite quickly).

"Be sure to get a name brand, reliable source of Vitex and follow the directions on the bottle. Unfortunately, there is no standard dosage of pill/tincture - one company may sell 400 mg, another 1000 mg, and of course tinctures are dosed by the drop. It's probably best to start with a lesser dose and see if it works for you. I personally used the Nature's Way Vitex Fruit capsules, 400 mg tablets. I took a tablet in the morning and a tablet at night to restore my ovulation while breastfeeding (see my personal experience below.)

We recommend that most people take Vitex AF-O only. It is not known whether or not vitex is safe to use during pregnancy and there have been issues with people taking it all month and being unable to get pregnant. However, if you are not TTC, you may choose to take it every day (giving your body a break during your period). It may take up to three months to work anyway (some say as long as 18 months for people who's cycles are really out of whack) so it may be something you want to begin months ahead of time when TTC.

Some people have even found that taking Vitex every day for several months prior to TTC, and then stopping all together and TTC the month after discontinuing the Vitex, helped them conceive baby girls. Just be sure to take a pregnancy test every month without fail even if you are CERTAIN you are not pregnant.

You can take 400 a day, 800 a day, 1200 a day, or anywhere in between."

Dropping in on this conversation. I went on the progesterone only birth control pill his month hoping to increase my progesterone levels as an ttc a girl. But have just seen a thread on this forum where it was said that when women came off pill they got a sudden testosterone boost.
Was wondering if I could start taking Vitex the day I came off the pill and take this till I O in order to make the progesterone drop less severe?

Hi The Anchor, thank you so much for posting the 2 article links, I have read through both of them and they were really useful.

I think my mind is made up to take both the vitex and saw palmetto AF-AF-O, if we are not going to try this month. (So straight for 4-6 weeks before my attempt).

But we still seem to be preparing for a try this month, doing diet, frequent, antihistamine, aspirin, rephresh etc... so in my heart I still really want to try a first +opk in a few days rather than wait.

Just wish we knew exactly how much sway vitex and saw palmetto can actually have in 4-6 weeks, rather than using them for 6 months for example? I don't want to wait if you feel they are not going to make much difference to my sway in my small time frame. (Or not as much as say diet, rephresh etc).

Hope this all makes sense, thank you for any more time you can give me.

I took vitex for a month straight and then af-o and got my first bfp after 3 months trying. (Did not try in af-af month). I still tested for ovulation to make sure the vitex wasn't affecting that, and it didn't change that for me (I always o'd fine so that is good). It's still early so I don't know gender yet. That's great to hear how you took vitex (did you also take saw palmetto?), maybe I should put our attempt off till next month and really give vitex a proper go... especially if this is how you got your bfp!

I did not take saw palmetto. I felt that my t levels dropped from the diet and also was drinking peppermint tea, so I didn't feel it necessary for me.

I don't think anyone should start vitex until after the first af. It is messing up cycle too much and making it take longer to ovulation.

We can't know how much things sway and it is different for everyone anyway.

I stopped bcp and started af the day af arrived 4 days later. cycle wasnt messed up. second cycle on vitex textbook perfect a well. I love that stuff. my depressions have gone and I feel super feminin. can only recomend it! I am taking 40 per day once atnight.
