How did you prepare yourself for the nub shot ultrasound?

Hi everyone,

I don't know if this belongs in to the Gender Disappointment Section or here. I thought I might get more answers here :happy:

I am having my 12 week ultrasound tomorrow (I will be 12+0 exactly) and I am planning to get a nub shot. I have been reading a lot here lately so I kind of also have an opinion on which ones are girls and which ones are boys.
So this is what I am scared of - seeing a boys nub. I have no idea HOW disappointed I am really going to be. Up until now, there is still this slightly little chance of this being a girl. I try not to get my hopes up of course, in my heart I know it's a boy. But until it's definate, I am still hoping like crazy.

So how did you prepare yourself for seeing a nub you didn't want to see? Can I do anything? Anything at all to not burst out in tears in the middle of the ultrasound?

Well, I didn't prepare for the scan with DS3 in any way, but what helped after I found out that it was a boy was talking to DH about leaving the possibility for a 4th open and going HT this time. We had both always said 2-3 kids, so 4 was not in the plan at all, but I always thought that I would have one of each in that mix. We agreed to leave that door open and see how we felt when DS3 was 6M-1Y old. That left me able to get excited about DS3 and enjoy his baby days knowing that my dream of a DD was still there.

Is the possibility of a 4th there for you? Could you still go HT after this bubba if it turns out to be a boy?

I can totally understand where you are coming from. We were planning on swaying when we got PG. I really do think you have a good chance of getting a girl!! Please post your nub shot!! I am going for a 13+4 nub shot tomorrow and I am very nervous as well. I just hope I don't see something that is clearly a boy. Would DH be open to #4??

This is my fourth baby and def my last and I have my 12 week on Monday! I am nervous of what I will see as this is my last chance for a girl... I just don't think I will be upset to see its a boy... Even if I see the perfect girl nub I don think I will trust it as. Have seen nubs that look super girly be a boy and vice versa... So go into your scan that its not 100 percent... I have been telling myself my entire pregnancy hat I'm having a boy and only looking at boy things I think that will soften my blow cause I never had my hopes up... At 12 weeks the nub is 85% accuracy I think so room for error

You helped me put it all into perspective. Of course it is not 100% yet tomorrow. So I will still have a little chance. Although I really believe I am carrying a boy because this pregnancy has been no different from the other two...

DH said that we will be trying HT twice with Dr. Potter if this one turns out to be a boy. So I will still have that chance. I guess tomorrow after the scan I will be planning the trip for 2015..
Still scared though. I just feel like I don't have the energy for "just another boy". DS1 was such a challenge (ok, he was sick and couldn't breathe while sleeping, so I didn't sleep for almost 2 years until he had gotten the surgery he so desperately needed), and DS2 arrived 1 week after DS1 could finally breathe and sleep. Challenge as well, I was so scared of him to be crying for months and years just like his brother. He is still a handful. And again, here I am, scared of DS3.

Can't do much about that I guess. I just know tomorrow before and after the scan I will be trying to think about the great vacation we are going to make out of going HT in California.

All four of my moms press were the same and she got me after three boys! I know it's hard after havin multiples in a row of the same sex... Like right now my hard drive is set to expect a boy cause that's all I've ever known...I'm waiting to see if different symptoms even matter for myself...my first three were identical pregnancies this time around I'm sick as a dog yet no fatigue and I'm a super bitch lol

Sorry you had such trouble with ds1 my ds3 used to wake up many times a night gasping and choking he had an x ray and he was supposed to see a specialist but then he started sleeping on his tummy and now he sleeps fine thank god! It's scary stuff

Yes, that's the thing, we haven't experienced anything else but hearing "it's a boy". Somehow I cannot imagine myself with a girl, ever.

Your son had problems breathing as well? It's very very scary, yes. I was feeling I was in hell for the first two years, it was such a torture, and I just couldn't help him. Hearing him gasping for air, but not getting any was so bad. I am sorry you had to go through this as well. But I am so glad to hear that you could fix it and he sleeps fine now!

I am going to just ask for a nub shot. I have heard the tech is very nice, so I hope he will say yes. After the scan, I will rush back home with the pictures and post them, lol. :happy: I think I will need some pills for calming down before the scan, lol. My heart is racing just thinking about that appointment... :nails:

Take some b6 lol I take diclectin for morning sickness which is basically b6 and it really chills me out!

Call your dr to double check I think it's fine...I would take it like an hour before

Monday!!!!! I'm very scared of twins I have quite the bump lol

This is something I worry about when I get pregnant my anxiety for the nub shot. I think more so posting it than going myself to see because I CAN NOT TELL ANYTHING FROM THE NUB. I can't even figure out what the nub is or whether it's a boy nub or girl nub. I'm so lost in that area. I've looked up how to tell and about the theory but I just can't tell. So I think it will be posting the pictures the will give me the most anxiety since you girls can see it but not me. This is coming from some one not even pregnant or ttc yet haha

Lol, but haven't you had a scan before already? I think twins are great :happy: But I am crossing my fingers for you that you are only carrying one girl!!
I have quite a bump as well, but I guess it all grows more easily and faster with every pregnancy, lol.

Oh, my best friend found out today that she is having her second daughter. She didn't have a preference, but I could tell she almost didn't want to tell me... I just have it in my guts that I am having to tell her tomorrow that mine is a boy... again.. just like the last time we were both pregnant... she was having a girl, I was having my second boy. *sigh* So scared.. I am going to take that B6 tomorrow morning. Hope it helps me to stay calm, lol.

No u/s yet for me lol I was avoiding early u/s this time...I would love identical twins just cause they are o special but twins would make things really hard for me! DH is no help at all with babies and house work and my middle son is autistic so it just wouldn't be ideal... I know I would prob get used to the idea quite fast and be excited... I know in the end twins wouldnt kill me but i just prefer one :) I just posted my bump today in the September due date group lol it's pretty bumptastic lol

I can totally feel for you!! When DH last year told me that he would only agree to swaying but not to HT, I was on the LE diet and kept thinking about how I would be feeling at the gender scan. And also before the gender scan, having no idea what gender the baby would be having. I couldn't deal with the thought of having another boy, and I finally could convince DH into going HT. Well... now I'm here, I didn't want to be pregnant with a boy again. And yet I feel like this is DS#3 for sure. I somehow have to make peace with this, I just don't know how.

I just saw it and you're right, it is a huge bump for this stage. And amazing how you can really see that you did not simply overeat but the bump is all baby, lol. I am crossing my fingers for one girl for you, still. I believe that the body already knows what is happening and grows more easily. After all, this is your fourth pregnancy. At my second one, I already got my bump earlier than the first time, and this time it is even "worse". I was visiting my parents last week and they are not supposed to know anything. I was trying to hide my bump and I am "lucky" I just look fat and not pregnant, haha. My mother told me to get my hormones checked because I have put on weight, lol... yeah my hormones are all confused at the moment, lol. She thinks it's the thyroid. Haha...

O yes no over eating is happening here I have aversions to everything and morning sicknes that ive lost 10 pounds so yes all baby bump lol which is scaring me about twins... And yes it's my fourth so hopefully that's why! Lol my mom just found out last week cause my 8 year old cant keep secrets lol but she had no clue somehow

Lol, how did she react? I told the kids that the pregnancy is a secret. The little one doesen't understand it yet anyhow and DS1 somehow didn't tell. I'm glad. I want to tell them over the phone when I can hang up anytime I want, lol.

Lol my mom always surprises me lol I expected some smart ass comments but nothing she was fine... Even when I had to tell her that I was preg when I was 16 all she said well just be happy don't have stds lol

DH mom on the other hand who is the nicest person ever and someone you would expect to be happy was mad and dissapointed and when she was told I was preg with ds3 she said you should have more kids till ur house is payed off lol it takes 25 years to pay arouse off so I should start having kids when I'm 50 lol

I posted my scan in another thread. But I am prepared to hear boy... From what I see, it's a boy. But at first during the scan it looked like a girl. But the doc wouldn't print out the picture I wanted, lol. He didn't get it. I had to beg him to print out something for my friends who have a lot of fun guessing the gender of unborn babies, lol. Unfortunately I didn't get a proper picture. Next scan is in 4 long weeks... :sigh:

Yes four weeks are def going to drag on lol.... 5 more sleeps till my NT! I think having everyone here to talk to helps time pass! What is your due date?

I'm worried I may not get a proper pic either and I'm sure the u/s tech is going to look at me like I'm crazy....

Haha, I was very afraid of that as well. I told him I had two friends who desperately want to guess the gender. He said this is impossible, and he didn't really get what kind of picture I wanted. I hope the tech who is doing your ultrasound gets better nub shots!
I couldn't sleep last night. The nights before were bad already, but tonight, all I was dreaming about were nub shots. lol

I really hope you will get better pictures - of one girl :luck: And I hope you can pass the time waiting until monday. They were torturing me today. My appointment was at 10am, and I had to wait 2 and half hours!! I was hoping for good nub shots at least, but well... I don't know how I am going to be able to wait at least 4 more weeks, lol :drama:

How are you feeling about monday? Are you very nervous? I think you have a very good chance since you are feeling so much different during this pregnancy. I think that is a very good sign! :fingers: :happy:

I'm due sept 8th! Hope I got a chance.... I am very nervous about Monday lol when I see one baby with one heartbeat I will feel a lot better! I'm pretty sure I will be getting the same u/s tech I had with ds3 and she's not the friendliest she is very quiet... There is another one there that I'm hoping to get instead cause she's way nicer...

Dreams lol omg my dreams are torture basically every night I have u/s dreams all of girls and then I look away and when I look back it's a boy lol

Exactly what I am dreaming! OMG our minds are playing such mean tricks on us, haha.

Hopefully you will get the nicer tech. It's so unfair, these appointments are something we are looking forward to for weeks and then those insensitive techs wreck it all :sad:
