Im not sure how accurate the weight assessment from a scan is. I've know many people where it was off by a long way, said the baby was huge and it turned out average. Besides if this isn't your first you should be ok, my friend just gave birth to a 10lb baby boy (her third child) with no stitches or anything.
My SIL pregnant with her 1st is 33 weeks and measured 2 weeks ahead, she has been told they wont let her go to 40 weeks or she may need C/S. She has thyroid issues though.
Baby already weighs in at 7lb 8oz.what size should I expect?
I just found the following info for you...
"During the last month of the final trimester of pregnancy the baby will gain between a quarter and a half pound per week"
Growth scans really are just an estimate though. I wouldn't worry they are not all that accurate at determining babies birth weight, they just give an indication.
I would say baby will probably be between a healthy 8 and 9 pounds at birth if the growth scan is correct but that just my guess :) xx Good luck!!
I had a level 2 US for a large baby with my last ds. I think it was about 36 weeks. The perinatologist said they can be off by a pound either way and he couldn't say for sure if I should opt for a csection or another vbac. DS was 9lb 8oz at birth. I had a vbac with no problems (and I am a small person). I was ready for a c-section if there were problems, but I was determined not to let the Dr.s take control of the process unnecessarily.
My dS1 weighed in at 7lbs at 36 weeks. They said "your baby is going to be ten pounds!!!" He was 6lbs 12oz but he was really tall. So don't believe it 100%.
I had a growth scan then with ds3 we was 5 lb 5 oz and was born 7 lb 8 oz at 39+6 days!! So he put on around 2 lb in the last month!!
Thanks everyone,I also have polyhydramnios so measuring 3 weeks ahead.maybe it's just excess fluid and not all baby.
My tummy is measuring about 4/5 weeks ahead also because of fluid and bubs position. I honestly wouldnt worry yourself with the weight estimate as it is just that, an estimate. My DS2 was born 9lb6oz at 38+6 but his birth was great! No dramas at all. Im not overly tall or overly small but my hips are quite narrow compared to the rest of me but all was fine. Im sure bubs is just perfect :)
my mw's never guess weights lol they are no fun haha but don't like to freak moms out and it really doesn't matter.
my 3 boys were 10 and over and my 1st and only born in hossy was 8.5(lbs.)
now if they were 12 or something I might be worried lol
My son was born at just over 36 weeks and weighed 6lbs, 10oz. He was considered just slightly larger than average at that weight and his gestation. My second son was estimated to be 7lbs, 12oz at 36 weeks even. He was born at 37+2 weighing 8lbs, 4oz. He was in the 99th percentile for his gestation and weight. If he went to term, I would have expected him to be around 9.5lbs. Which is what I weighed at birth (and was on my due date).
BUT, lots of things can throw those things off. My cousin was told at 35 weeks that her baby was 5lbs, 12oz. He was born just three days shy of his due date (39+4) weighing 6lbs, 15oz. But he was crazy long with a big head. So it was easy to see how they guessed his measurements as being more chunky than he was. He was downright scrawny.
I wouldn't panic about a 7.5lb guess. They can be up to 2lbs off. And I believe "average" is about 6lbs at 36 weeks. So it puts you in the range if something was slightly off. Or she could be long and lean. Ya never know!
With my last son they did a growth scan at 34weeks which put him in the low 6lb's he was born on his due date 6 weeks later at 5lbs5oz......at half a lb a week he should have been 9lb according to them....i dont trust growth scans at all
me neither. With ds1 from the growth scan at 37 weeks they told me he'd be a good 9lb'er. He was 7lb4! i'd go by what weights your previous ones were plus a little extra
Thanks everyone,my 2 boys weights ds1 7lb 14oz at 40+2 and ds2 7lb 11oz at 39 weeks.hopefully baby appears bigger due to being magnified with the polyhydramnios?:.)
I had poly with DS3 and I had a growth scan a few days before he was born (38.3 weeks)... They told my he would be 9-10 pounds. He was 9# 11 oz. he was very swollen and lost about 1 1/2 lbs in the first couple weeks. They didn't say it was because of that buti think it contributed. I wasn't diagnosed with poly until they broken my water.
iMO they really can't give and accurate measurement and they want to give me sht to develope this ones lungs to deliver her early but I feel that if she's meant to be big then she'll be big... I'm not going to risk her health over a hypothetical.
Good luck and try not to worry, I'm sure your OB would express concern if it was warranted....
