I am being induced in less than 24 hours :D anyways I decided a while ago that I wanted to induce but just breaking my water... Instead of starting off with pitocin... So I was looking it up and a lot of people seem to be more for getting pitocin?! I wanted my water broken cause in my mindits more natural for me and baby... His head is low so prolapse isn't a concern...
If given the choice what would you choose... What do u think the better choice is?
I will tell ya, my water broke naturally and I was given Pitocin and it was SHEER HELL. I had had two unmedicated births before so I was no novice to labor either, and I still had to ahve an epidural. I really am not a fan of the Pitocin.
Well that's what I'm thinking that I could possibly avoid pit if I just start off with my water breaking... My dr is pretty confident it's all I need
OMG. Having Pitocin was one of the worst experiences of my life. I had EXTREME back labor and the Pit made it 1000% worse. I had my water broken but that didn't seem to make a difference. After 13 hours of hell labor, I had a c-section. If the hospital is willing to just break your water and not give you Pit, then go for it. good luck mama!
I hope that's all you need for things to start naturally, WAG...

aside from the pain, you have to be on the monitor all the time so there isn't even any moving around or distractions so you really have nothing to do but totally focus on it! :(
Well I had a pit induction with ds3... I honestly didn't find the pain all that different than my hellish labour with ds2 ... One thing with the pit tho I almost ended with a section cause of his heart rate dropping so low...
I want to do what's most natural and I am just thinking logically well my water has to break anyways right lol... I'm already 3cm but could be more by now
If I were given the choice and everything was favorable (soft, dilated cervix, low head, Braxton hicks prior), I would opt for water breaking. Because it is more natural and you give your body time to work it out itself.
Pitocin can be done right and it can be done wrong. I had a hellacious 2nd delivery because of pitocin (or I thought it was). It was med free, but so painful I was begging for meds, a c-section, anything to take it away. They were 'pushing pit" which basically means they took it up and up and up as long as baby was tolerating it. It's a common way to do pitocin. Increasing constantly, getting baby out as quick as possible. But it causes very painful contractions, blood pressure issues in mom, baby distress, and other issues.
You can also do "kick start" pit, which is what my third birth had. Totally different experience. They start out low and take you up to where some progress is being made. Then leave it until no more progress is happening. I only had mine adjusted up three times with her. And my labor felt very much like my first son (no interventions at all). It was slower that #2 by three hours. But worth it in the pain department. I would be okay with pit used in that circumstance again. But never like my second child again. No way.
And I was permitted to be up and moving while on the monitors (birth ball, standing and swaying, leaning over the bed, on all fours).
So, it doesn't have to be awful on pit. I feel luck to have experienced a different pit birth, since it can happen. But I would prolly still opt for water breaking first. But if that doesn't get things going, try for jump start pitocin, versus pushing it.
Thanks ladies for all your opinions and experiences ! It is def making me feel better about my decision to just break my water and see where is goes... The only reason I started questioning it was because I was looking it up and people on other forums were saying breaking the water is a terrible idea...
YES stay away from the Pitocin if you can...my DD decided to make her entrance sunny-side up, and the back labour was bad, but more like EXCRUCIATING after they added Pitocin to the mix. I wouldn't have anything to do with for DS, and it was a much happier experience.
I also had a negative Pitocin experience - I found it took away the 'wave' part of the contractions and was more like and on/off switch (I found that much more difficult to cope with).
