Bruises - Help!

This TTC girl journey is turning out to be more challenging than I thought - LOL

Well, I started taking baby aspirin last week (twice a week) coz I wanted to start off easy and took 2 this week as well. Last night, I noticed 3 to 4 bruises on my body..so clearly, it's the baby aspirin because I've never been the one to bruise when bumping into things, etc.

My question is, should I cut it down to once a week and gradually build it up or should I stop completely and switch over to Cranberries tablets??

Do Cran tabs work just as well? how many should I take and how often?

I also got really huge bruises when I started taking aspirin but didn't cut back just with it and gradually increased and think my body got used to it now I'm now taking every other day and no bruises!

It's up to you what you do though depends how much te bruises bother you - I didn't take cranberry so can't advise on that

No not sure at all tbh I'm no expert but can only tell you what happened to me.

Maybe try cutting back to one a week and see how the bruising goes then slowly increase again - I'm pretty sure aspirin is favoured over cranberry as it can help with implantation.

cranberry is WORSE than the aspirin for bleeding/bruising and it's much more unsafe for someone who is prone to bruising, because you ahve to stop and start it and can't ease onto and off of it like you do with the aspirin.

Some people just can't take it. I am one of them too. I can take ONE and be black and blue.

The alternative is to do nothing, which I did and got a DD, or else to take Vit. C which I also did and got DS 4!

Oh wow - I didn't know that. Guess I will continue to take baby aspirin and hope that the my body gets used to it - if not, will just have to stop :)

Over time, your body can start making more clotting factors and this will make the bruising get better, but that does you no good if you're dead, and yes, you can actually DIE from having your blood be too thin - you can have bleeding in your brain or stomach that can be fatal, and if you were in an accident or had a medical emergency that required unexpected surgery you could bleed out more easily.

I would just let the aspirin go. I don't really even think it sways by much and it simply isn't worth the risk for those of us who can't tolerate it

also need to point out for those who don't know, that because your body will increase clotting factors, it's very dangerous to stop blood thinners suddenly (both cranberry and aspirin). Your body keeps making extra clotting factors and when you stop the blood thinners, that can make your blood suddenlys tart clotting TOO easily and cause strokes and heart attacks.

Thanks Atomic, this is my worry. I asked my midwife if it was safe to just stop aspirin at 36 weeks & she said it was. After all of your advice, I'm not too confident in my midwife's advice. Yours makes much more sense.

Scary stuff will be weaning myself off it ASAP! How about DH taking cranberry? He suffers from nose bleeds although hasn't had one since on cranberry but will this affect his blood?

You are taking it for pregnancy, right?? Just to clarify, ~most~ people would wean off the aspirin gradually over the course of 3-4 weeks after BFP. But some people have issues where their blood clots too easily and they are given blood thinners (aspirin or occasionally something even stronger) thru their pregnancy and have to come off those at 36 weeks because delivery while on blood thinners is highly risky both for mama and baby. So in that case, if you are told to come off the aspirin at 36 weeks, I would try to start weaning off a little sooner, so like at 34-35 weeks, drop back, aiming to be done with weaning by 36 1/2 weeks. you don't want to take it much longer than 36 weeks because it needs to be out of your system by delivery time both for your sake and the baby's. I woudl also probably go ahead with the Vit. K drops for baby just to be sure his blood is clotting ok.

Most doctors and midwives have not read the most recent research which clearly shows an increased risk of death from clotting and heart attacks when people who were on aspirin therapy stop it suddenly!!! theheart.org: trusted cardiology news and opinions And even if they have, it's like until they see the same study done on miscarriages they can't connect the dots but it's SOOO obvious to me that it just can't be good to drop the aspirin all at once. I think it's a serious thing and we need to be really cautious with it. :)

Many thanks Atomic, yes I'm on it to prevent pre-term PET like I had with ds1 at 30 weeks. It worked for ds2 as he was born at term & I had no BP issues at all. I understand the need to be off the aspirin at 36 weeks for delivery purposes but I was surprised that my midwife thought it'd be okay to stop suddenly. With ds2 I had no idea, but after reading your concerns it made me question it this time. I think I'm comfortable with easing off it during week 35. There was a huge study done that showed the aspirin helped the placenta to function better for those Mums that had suffered from PET before 32 weeks and had a significant impact on future pregnancies. Unfortunately because doctors don't know the exact cause of PET this is the best way to hopefully prevent it in women with known risks. I'm not sure that the NHS offers Vit K drops, but if they do my last two would've had them & this one will too.

No problems! I understand and don't want to confuse anyone either as my experience is far from normal. At least with all boys so far, I can't pass down the genetic pre-disposition that my Nan & Mum gave to me! :wink:

I don't know what the deal is with aspirin or why you should take it to sway pink but if this helps I didn't take a lick of aspirin or cranberry and got a DD. I am pretty sure the secret to my DD was my diet and my DH's one time out of the month release. SO a super duper with hold. I would say anything that is making you bruise you should stop taking. That doesn't sound too good. BUT again like I said I don't know the purpose behind it.
