Stressed!! Please help!!
Hi Ladies! So, I just got a call from my OB's office and they are sending me for an early u/s on Friday afternoon b/c my hcg levels were really high. What exactly does that mean? Should I be worried about losing another baby? I've already had 2 m/c's in the last 9 months. :nails: I went for my second blood draw this AM and the tech said it should be back this afternoon. I can't help but be worried now!! Someone help!!

-
-
Nope no clomid. Second attempt after starting to try again after my 2nd miscarriage.
-
Higher HCG levels can indicate multiples BUT in HT, HCG levels are all over the place and I've seen several high numbers turn out to be just one baby.
It may just mean it is very healthy!!
-
It could be anything from twins, to an off dated pregnancy to a molar pregnancy. I'm betting twins!!:DD::DD:
-
There is a possibility of a molar pregnancy but it is very rare. 1 in 1,000. Odds of nothing wrong or multiples are higher than the molar pregnancy option.
-
Nuthinbutpink - do you know if that is still the case even when I have had a baby with triploidy? When I had the miscarriage in August and found out that's why he didn't make it, I did a lot of research about the triploidy and didn't think anything of it at the time but there was a lot of mention of molar pregnancy with that and I can't remember the specifics.
-
A molar pregnancy means there is no baby. Only a placenta.
How far along we're you when you lost the one you tested? Which chromosome came back abnormal? It sounds like it was not molar with the previous loss. A molar pregnancy occurs when there is an issue right at fertilization.
IF this one comes back with an issue, IF, I would do a genetic profile test on you and your husband before you try again. Odds are your previous kiss was a fluke though and was just bad luck.
-
Nuthinbutpink - I was about 7 weeks when the heartbeat stopped. He had 3 copies of all chromosomes and 4 copies of chromosome 13. We both had a full genetic profile and were told there were no problems with either of us and that it was just a random thing. I am just really anxious to hear that everything is healthy this time. I am hoping that we get REALLY good news on Friday. Could the levels be higher if I O'd earlier than I realized? My last LMP was Dec 7th but I O'd early on CD 12, usually I don't O until CD 14-15. So I would technically already be 5 weeks if the O date is accurate right?? I will be happy regardless but not gonna lie, a little nervous about the idea of twins!!
-
If you have the incorrect ovulation date, yes, the HCG would show higher than average for your gestation. If you O'd before you think you did, you'll just be measuring further along. No worries if that's the case.
And the tri was just random. Lighting striking.
-
Oh I can't wait until that appointment! I know when I O'd - it was CD 12, it was just earlier than I usually do so it kinda threw everything off for me lol! So then is there any way to figure out how far along I am based on when I O'd or do I still just go by LMP??
-
Have you tried googling for a pregnancy calculator based on O date? How do you "know" when you ovulated?
-
I was charting BBT and keeping track of CM pretty closely. I got my first + OPK on CD 10 and then my temp dipped and I had a spike on CD 13. I guess it's possible that I O'd earlier, like on CD 11.
-
It's just a best guess going by symptoms but just a day shouldn't mean a huge difference in HCG but it can definitely make a difference this early.
-
I am waiting to call to get my second level. I went this morning and the tech told me it should be ready after 2:00 pm. I have another hour or so!! Ok so according to the due date calculator that I found, I would be about 5 weeks now. So what can I realistically expect at the ultrasound? A heartbeat maybe?
-
No. Definitely not. 6 weeks is the earliest to see a heartbeat. They are
1. Looking for a uterine pregnancy with a normal appearance given your gestation and
2. Seeing how many there are
-
What was your first number and what day was is taken?
-
First number was 10,342 and it was taken Monday.
-
-
Oh sorry, 4 weeks, 2 days according to LMP
-
I see your ticker now. It is super high. I guess the u/s will show.
-
I am just hoping for positive news!
-
So I got my second beta level - it is 18,201. It didn't double but the nurse said it was "rising appropriately". Do you all think I need to be worried? I mean, I am already worried b/c I just want to know that the baby (or babies) is where it is supposed to be but now it didn't double either. :nails: I have read a whole bunch online about it still being ok if it went up by like 60% or whatever but I am still kinda freaking out!!
-
I think you are much further along than you think you are somehow.
Beta levels stop doubling once you are in the range you are in. That is normal and expected. They do not continue doubling forever. I know it's tough but you are just going to have to wait for the u/s at this point. I think everything is just fine.
-
^^^WSS. I think you are further along than you think. There is some research that suggests that very high hcg levels early on can be a soft marker for downs, which is probably why your doc wanted to check it out. But I think nbp is right, you're further along than you think.

Thanks girls! I am trying to keep myself calm and collected until tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm!! I will update once I know!!

-
LOL I don't know where she lives!!! ;)
-
Hi girls! I got back a little while ago, well there is just one in there, right where it should be. We saw a gestational sac & a yolk sac but no baby or heartbeat yet, which is what I was expecting. The tech said they don't even measure/date until they see a baby w/ a heartbeat, which has not been my experience in the past but every tech that I see there is different I guess. When I have gone in the past they had no problem telling me what I measured. She said everything looks perfect based on my LMP so we will see. I have to go back in 10-14 days. She said the doctor will have the report within 2 days. I am not going to feel any less anxious until I see that heart beating strong but trying to stay positive.:nails:
-
If you are indeed just 5 weeks that you wouldn't see the heartbeat. I'm sure everything is just fine HUGS.
-
Sounds 100% normal for 5 weeks!!! Congrats!!!
-
Hi Ladies! Here's one more question for you. And thank you for the reassurance btw. The tech said that I ovulated from the right side and that I had a HUGE cyst there. She kept saying "Oh it's just where you ovulated" but then said "I'm surprised you're not uncomfortable and that it's not causing you pain". Should I be worried about that? How, if at all, will that affect the pregnancy? And is there any truth to the idea that if you ovulate from the right side, you are having a boy?? Any thoughts are appreciated!!!!
-
It is common to have a cyst. They may keep an eye on it and it should resolve on its own. If it does rupture, it may be painful so don't freak out and think it is labor or a miscarriage. I would definitely ask your doctor when you speak to him but it is a common occurrence.
No idea on ovulation side/gender!
-
According to what she is saying that's just your corpus luteum and it's actually GOOD that it's nice and big - crankin' out lots of prog for ya. It's not unusual to have a cyst in addition to the CL but it sounds liek that's what she was describing???
There is some data that indicates you may be a little more likely to ahve a boy from a right sided ovulation but please don't stress or worry about it, there are TONS of people who got girls from right side and boys from left and the pattern that really seemed to sway gender was three months long and NOT just the side you happened to ov. from when you got pg - you would need to know where you Oed from for two months before hat.
-
Thanks girls! I remember that I had a cyst when I was pregnant w/ my daughter too - that first u/s w/ her is still SO vivid in my mind, probably b/c it was my first. I probably did w/ my son too but I don't remember the sides or anything. It just caught me off guard b/c she kept saying how big it was and that she was surprised it wasn't causing me pain. I am sure I will talk to the doc tomorrow and they will tell me when I have to go back, probably next week.
I have no idea what side I O'd from the last few months. Sometimes I feel the O pains and I think November it was on the left but I am just not sure.
-
Everyone has a CL cyst in early pregnancy, but sometimes there was a second egg that turned into a cyst and that's what you have to be on the lookout for, those can rupture. CL cysts are supposed to be there, that's waht is making your progesterone.
There's no way to know what side you ovulated from without an ultrasound. You can have O pains on both sides and some people even have worse O pains on the side they don't ovulate from.
-
Hi Ladies. I talked to the nurse yesterday and she told me that the cyst I have is a simple cyst - it is fluid filled and they are going to monitor it. She did say the same thing that you did, that it could just be the CL but they will keep an eye on it to be sure.
-
thanks for updating, I get super curious to know what ever happened! Happy to hear that the doc is not concerned.
