Im in two minds.I had a home birth with ds2. It was nice but it scared me as he got stuck and nearly bad to be took to hospital as his heart rate was going down.this must have been because he was back to back (is it posterior?) And so was ds1 so I'm scared it will happen again.I've got to have a good chat with my midwife about it
All my children have been born at home :)
They were wonderful & empowering births, it felt right for our family.
I was pregnant with baby # 4, but sadly had a miscarriage at 12 weeks xx
When we decide to complete our family we will be planning another Homebirth xx
eleena-- have you looked into chiropractic care during pregnancy to help prevent a posterior baby? Someone who does the "Webster Technique" is what you'd be looking for. Also, have you read the book "Back Labor No More" or peeked around on the Spinning Babies website? Lots of exercises and tips on preventing a posterior baby and helping to turn one. Belly lifts are great during labor to take the pain out of your back. As a doula, my advice to keep from ever slouching during your pregnancy. Slouching causes posterior babies. If you're sitting on the couch you want to have a pillow or two behind your back to make sure you're sitting completely upright or leaning forward. Even better is to sit on a birthing ball or on a chair turned around with you leaning forward against the back with a pillow between you. During my pregnancy I always replaced my desk chair with a birthing ball.
Both my boys were very easy home water births. I couldn't imagine it any other way and would plan the exact same type of birth for baby #3. LOVED my births. I couldn't imagine having a dry land birth! The water makes everything 100 times better!
I really really want one next time. I wanted one with my first but DP was nervous so I said we would see how my birth goes and if all went well then home for the next one. First birth was a dream, Water, drug free and peaceful. I was looking forward to planning a homebirth when pregnant again but as soon as we found out it was twins that was a no go. I wanted to do all I could to avoid a caesarian, not only because I never wanted one anyway and I enjoyed giving birth the first time and didn't want to miss out on it, but because it would influence my birth after that as VBACs are not recommended for home. Well I ended up needing a caesarian thanks to A being footling breech but I have done my research and I am still willing to do a homebirth. I think there are more pros than cons and it is safe enough if the pregnancy is straight forward. I just need to find a MW who will support me to do so. Goodluck to those of you having homebirths :)
If I have another baby (age makes it iffy, but crossing my fingers :)), it will be another home birth. 3 out of 4 of mine have been born at home. My eldest was delivered by unnecesarean.
Sorry to hear about the unessesary caesarian. Mine certainly was needed but I still felt like it could have been avoided if people took me seriously and actually tried to help me find ways I could turn my leading twin. Everyone just said there is not enough room with twins and that my wants didn't matter any more since it was twins. I felt very cheated because my first birth was so amazing and I wouldn't change a thing about it and I wanted to do it again but never got the chance. It felt like it was taken from me, I honestly don't feel like I gave birth to my twins. I missed out on getting to do that part. I call it taken birth, not giving birth.Quote:

I had a homebirth with my 2nd and it was great! I felt I was too old with my later ones and we lived too far from the hospital.
Do you have a local ICAN chapter? I found the online yahoo group so helpful with my first VBAC. It's mostly defunct now as there are several FB groups.
I totally understand what you mean about feeling like you didn't give birth. I still sometimes have feelings of or being sure my eldest is even mine...I got to see him for about 2 minutes, all swaddled up & then didn't see him again for hours.
It's disgusting that drs are still basing their decisions on the discredited Hannah breech study. I'm really sorry.
I agree you have a much better chance of birthing at home...continuous monitoring isn't just restrictive, it increases cesareans with no increase in improved outcomes to make it an acceptable intervention.
Not sure about the local ICAN chapter but I will look into it what the time comes thanks :) Not even preg yet and may not be for another few years even! But when feeling down my longing for a girl gets worse and the memories of the twins birth pops up.
Sorry that you were seperated from your son. I was lucky to have the twins with me but when night came I had to go to the ward away from them as they wanted them over night for observation. I think they would have been ward babies if born vaginally as they had no probs and were going home weights at birth.
Another fact about the pregnancy was that when my waters broke B slipped from head down to tranverse. If only I wasn't sitting on the loo he may not have missed the opening! I think Frank Breech delivary is fine but it is different with twins. Smaller baby and feet at vaginal opening could make for quite possible cord prolapse and oxygen loss and twins are more likely to get intertwined in each other. If given a choice I still would have gone for the caesarian as it definitely was the safest option as much as I really didn't want it.
What makes me mad is that I spoke and asked for months before about ways I could have made the babies turn to optimal position with no one even bothering to lift a little finger. "It's twins, just forget about the birth and focus on them getting out alive etc" Apart from PET it was a very healthy twin pregnancy.
If only I had known about all these help and support websites as later I found the info that may have helped me but I can never change it now of coarse! I was in hospital on bedrest from 30 weeks and they were born at 35 and very healthy so I know I am lucky compared to what many twin Mums go through.
If I had had the internet by my bed then I prob would have stumbled across the right info but none of my family wanted to loan their precious laptops in my time of need. I just have to be nice to myself of who I was back then. Too exhausted to fight too hard and more worried about being seperated form my DS1 and focusing on that above all else. A water birth will be so healing for me and to have my V birth toll above my C birth toll.
I will have a read of that Hannah study. Never heard of it.
I actually want to be a Midwife and I will do my best to help my clients through the most intermit thing they will ever go through.

I found that taking a deep breath and letting it out in a moan was the most helpful technique in getting my body to relax and give in to the pain; I was definitely not expecting that, but I let my body guide me into doing what felt most natural. Great thread for home birthing :)
