Just wondered as I get a fade in for good few days so can see a positive for over 24 hours most months. Do you ovulate when line has gone? Got myself confused over whole thing!
We just had an attempt last night as test was positive and this evening it's still positive! Wondering when I should be expecting opk to be negative and if thats when ovulate?! X
the tests detect a rise and fall in the LH surge. usually within 24 hours of the first actual positive you ovulate. When the surge declines thats when the line fades and then goes away. Everyones pattern will be different. Mine faded in for 2 days, was positive for 2 days, then 3 days of fading away to 0.

Totally changes from month to month. Sometimes I O the same day as my first positive, sometimes I O the next day and the OPK has gone negative, or is still positive. Sometimes I O the day after THAT, and again, I've had OPK be still positive or be negative. I'd say it's 50/50, I.e about half the time I O during my surge, half the time after my surge has dissipated. It's very unpredictable for me. Thus why I temp!
THere is no exact correlation between when the OPK goes negative and when you ovulate. You will ovulate between 8-48 hours after the first positive (most between 24-36 hours after first pos), regardless of how long they stay positive for. The exception is if you had a bit of a false surge to start with, then a real surge right on top of it and it can maybe last longer than 48 hours before you O.
THe rate at which the OPK goes neg has to do with how much LH your body made and how long it takes to clear it. Nothing to do wtih when you ovulate *unless, as I mentioned above, the first surge was a false one
This is the issue I'm currently having. TTC pink, so I'm shooting (or at least my hubby is ;) for just one attempt. We BD'd on Sunday when I first tested positive, but today is Tuesday and have an even darker line today. This is my 5th month of TTC and I just turned 39, so no time to waste. Atomic, what do I do??
Uschi attempt again on Thursday which could very well be O day. If O turns out to be Wednesday you had it covered from Sundays attempt :)
Uschi, BD again on Thursday in case you don't O for a few more days. By having 4 days in between your attempts, you will still have only one attempt in your fertile period, regardless of when exactly you O.
Are your cycles regular? How long are they on average?

Thanks for help. My cycles of late have ranged anywhere from 25 to 29 days in length. Last period was a textbook 28 day cycle with 14 day LP.
BTW, haven't set up a signature, but have two boys, ages 1 and 2. Going for third and final attempt at girl!
Again, thank you True Blue and maidentomother for advice. Will follow and BD again on Thursday (although, the holidays caused me to cheat savagely on my sway. However, as Atomic always says, you never know when Goldie will show up - argh!) Maidentomother, does my cycle info mean anything in regards to this?
OPKs should work well fòr you then, good luck!

Ok, so fifth attempt was a big fat fail :sad: AF paid me an unwelcome visit. Going for change-up and will BD every four days this month. I was thinking I should only try this for two months and if it doesn't work, go to what worked for me in the past: several attempts just before and in the fertile window. Just worried about age here, people. Thoughts?
Also, could a moderator or vet please respond regarding instructions on posting. I'm totally lame in this department. Should I keep rambling in the same thread? Or find a thread more related to the topic I'm discussing? Or start a brand-new thread when I have a new/different question or thought? Help!
Maybe try every 4 days this cycle, and if that doesn't work try every 3 days next cycle? That's what I would do. I will be going to every 3 days next cycle myself if no luck this month. If no luck from THAT after 1- 2 cycles, I will try every day from CD1 until 4DPO!

I want to keep sperm count low and sperm quality high, so that's part, plus I have on occasion Oed very early, CD5 once. So to fully cover my bases just in case something like that happens. Have another thought...I am still breastfeeding a 14-month old, around the clock. I have read that breastfeeding can lower progesterone enough to prevent pregnancy, esp. in women in their late 30's+. True? Thoughts?
How much are you nursing overnight? I noticed a BIG difference in my cycle when I stopped overnight feedings. I am still nursing my 19mo old, but I stopped overnight feedings a month ago. I only nurse him twice a day though. At 14mo I was nursing him 6-8 times a day including once or twice overnight. He was cutting 4 molars then and needed comforting. He has since been slowly dropping feedings in his own, now that he is eating solids more again.
If you can slowly drop the overnight feedings, I think that will really help your cycles. I say slowly, to give him time to adjust. You got to make life tolerable!
It also depends on how quickly you want/need to get pregnant.

Some women do need to wean completely in order to get their cycles back, others get AF within weeks of birth despite nursing on demand. It is VERY variable and there are no hard rules. If you've been getting regular AFs for at least a few months, you are most likely Oing and can conceive. I have never heard of women Oing while BFing but not being able to conceive, except in rare circumstances where they have really short LPs, which I think prolactin causes. Are you temping/charting or even using OPKs? If so, how long is your LP typically?
I plan to BF for at least 2 years and cosleep, if possible. I was raised that way myself. I lived in Silicon Valley for almost 5 years btw, when I was in university. I know all about pricey housing!

IT's possible, but the older the baby, the less likely it is. I got pg 2 times at 39 and 41 breastfeeding round the clock and the second time I was tandem nursing two! :)Quote:

But I've never believed in Ferber and I certainly wouldn't ferberize my little one while he is staring right at my face the whole time he's crying! Maiden, I've never temped but my OPK's indicate an average LP of 12-13 days. So, I believe that shouldn't be a problem. I was prescribed progesterone after my miscarriages; I didn't end up needing it for my second son but I still have it. I asked Atomic in the beginning if I should take it due to the fact that I have had two miscarriages and am breastfeeding but she didn't advise it because it would mess up my cycle. I wonder what she would suggest now after the fifth attempt (hint hint, Atomic, please weigh in :wink:) Any opinions regarding whether this could help a fertilized egg implant are welcome....

Re breastfeeding, I seriously doubt that if your cycles are regular and you're having a normal LP that your nursing has anything to do with not conceiving.
Has your DH ever had a sperm analysis done?? THere have been several cases where couples weren't getting pregnant for months on end and we thought it was due to swaying, then it turned out that the dude was shooting blanks. Male factor IF can start up at any time.

uschi, I'm sorry you've received criticism for your compassionate mothering. I'm all about attachment parenting myself. Even so, I don't criticize my best friend who does CIO, simply bc I don't believe it's my place to decide how she parents. Anyway, I think you should be pŕoud of all you're doing for your little one. It sounds like you are doing a great job!
atomic brings up a great point. You should be sure DH is releasing regularly (every 2-4 days) ALL cycle long to maximize sperm quality. Research shows it matters quite a bit how much men release all the the time, not just around conception. So if DH hasn't been releasing regularly, hopefully doing so plus every 3-4 days will do the trick. If you have the patience for it, I'd probably try that for at least 2 cycles before increasing attempts, since you have to assume you're only releasing good eggs some cycles.

I would NOT recommend you take progesterone either. I don't think you need it from the sounds of things and I'm not a big fan of P supplementation anyway.
I am 110% convinced that the progesterone is nothing more than a placebo for the vast majority of gals who are on it. I have seen several really good and reliable studies that showed zero difference in pregnancy outcomes for the prog supps even in IVF rounds. That's right - even in totally artificial pregnancies the progesterone supps are not helping improve things, let alone in natural ones.
Re sperm analysis, that is a lifetime ago and anything could have happened between now and then.
If you give me a brief summing up of everything you guys are doing/have done to sway (or direct em to a thread where you did this, if you already have) then I can help you tweak it.
