Swaying pink, having twins, thoughts?

I am currently 13 weeks pregnant with twins, was swaying pink. :) Looking at the data, there are 7 sets of multiples listed on the google docs sheet. From what I can tell, all swayed pink and got pink. Does this mean there was one girl, both girls? Just curious, hoping my odds are good that there's at least a little pink in there :) Obviously it depends on if the twins are identical of fraternal, which most wouldn't know from ultrasound only, but wondering if any of the stats experts can help me out!

The doctor should be able and tell if they are identical or not. Did you had any u/s by now?
Have you took Clomid to sway twins or?

They can't always tell if the baby's are fraternal oridentical, right? I also wonder if you took clomid or anything like that to sway pink. I hope you hear pink!!

No they can't always tell MybyC. It it can be very tricky to tell and sometimes frustrating. The earlier in the pregnancy, the easier it is to tell if the babies are sharing a placenta or not. Twins with their own placenta will implant in different places in the womb which can be an easy way to tell when it is early days and they are tiny with heaps of room. Even the 12 week scan can be tricky sometimes. I found out it was twins at 12 weeks and they did not check for number of placentas because they were dong the 12 week scan x2 and it was a pretty standard place without anyone who specialised in multiples. I went to another place from then on on recommendation from my Ob. He wanted to know how many placenta's there were to figure out what care I would need so I don't understand why my next scan was not until 16 weeks.
The sonographer said it looked like one placenta but was not 100% sure and we discovered they were both boys (I was not pleased about that but don't worry, I did not sway) so we still did not have a certain answer. A boy and a girl would of coarse have to have their own placenta! Two placentas may fuse to look like one but they are still functioning independently.

So my pregnancy was treated like one placenta (Monochorionic Diamniotic). For the rest of my scans which were every two weeks I had a different lady for the rest of them and she was certain the twins were sharing a placenta, thus identical. She seemed pretty experienced with twins. Well turns out they were. I was still not 100% convinced when they were born because they looked so different to me so we got a DNA test done at 2 months confirming that my boys are identical twins. I have heard many other stories like mine. I can see it now at 2 1/2 but their head shapes were so different at birth that it affected their facial feature layout slightly.

Then there is the other end of the scale that I have also heard many stories about. Couples having twins and the babies having their own placenta each and being told that they are having fraternal twins. So they end up having "fraternal" same sex twins only to struggle to be able to tell them apart. Some of them get DNA tests done and find out that their twins are in fact identical. A small about of identical twins have their own placenta. It happens when the embryo splits really early after being fertilized. (Before implanting). I think it is just some people getting lazy about the facts.
Also many of these people are in denial about it because they heard what the doctor told them and are set in their ways. I have met three people who claim to have fraternal twins and there is no way in hell those twins were not identical. Oh and the Olsen twins claim to be fraternal. Ha yeah right, of coarse you are! I thought mine were fraternal for sure when I first saw them and I needed it confirmed because it never 100% was during my pregnancy. I was disapointed that I thought they were fraternal just after meeting them because I thought that I had had two more chances for a girl and not even gotten one.

I don't know about those stats that you speak of just a little pink but I would think that if you are swaying for a girl and you get one then it is a successful sway even if there are two girls in the end or a bonus boy.
The world of twins is amazing and complex and I feel very lucky to be apart of it but it was a scary and hard journey at times. There can be so many unknowns, it really is a whole different ball game to a singleton pregnancy. My twins were numbers 2 and 3 and I felt like I first time Mum again.

They are the lights of my life. I love them soooooooo much and feel so darn lucky to have been gifted them.

I was not taking clomid. Just some herbals and
vitamins as I was instructed to from atomicsagebrush, and voila! Twinsies!

So far, I've only had one bedside ultrasound, so they weren't looking at placenta at all, it was just a quick one to check fetal heart tones and hello, baby #2!

And the above poster is right about the fraternal/identical twin part. From what I've read, 30% of separate sack and separate placenta
twins can still be identical, just depends on when the split occurs. I have younger brothers that are twins, they were separate sacks/separate placentas, but are absolutely identical, by looking at them. There is a lot of interesting stuff about twins, it's fun to research :)

I am a twin and when me and my sis were born 31 years ago they told my parents we were identical twins due to one placenta, but apparently at the time they didn't know that placentas could fuse! My mom said she could tell us apart from the day we were born. We are definitely not identical!! :)

Some were gg, some were bg. No one has gotten bb twins with swaying YET, one lady got bb twins without swaying, however.

That having been said, everyone needs to go into this with the certainty that eventually someone is gonna roll "snake eyes" (using term loosely because I would have loved twin boys, I think twin boys are the CUTEST thing ever) and walk away from a pink sway with twin boys. It will happen and no one should look at our numbers as any kind of guarantee.

Not all our twins were Clomid twins! We've had quite a few natural twins too.

Everyone always assumed Mary Kate and Ashley Olson (who look very very similar of course) were identical but they had a DNA test done and they are fraternal, they just look a lot alike.

Oh and I actually think there are more twins than that!!!

If your brothers are identical twins then maybe yours are too. It is not proven to be heredity but I have seen it happen in families. My biological grandmother is an identical twin. The bond is awesome. They live far apart but talk every day on the phone.

It did sting not to get my girl and it was harder during the pregnancy with the hormones and having never met them yet but I would not change a thing now. I think the twin thing helped alot with the GD too because it is special. Less people get to have twins than people who get to have daughters. And I escape alot of "the three boy Mum" stigma because of it too. I'll post a pic later. I feel like such a lucky Mummy

Having little brothers that are twins was a pretty cool experience too! I am excited about any pregnancy in general, and doubly so since it's twins. Icing on the cake would be if my pink sway worked at all :) Just thought the stat sheet was interesting. :)

Boys are awesome too, I am one of 5 kids and the only girl, and I have two sons now. Just a little pink is all I'm hoping for, but if not, being a twin mom is pretty darn fantastic!

The icing on the cake sure would be great. I hope you get to have a daughter. The twins were supposed to be our last but I still really want a daughter so we are gong to have just one more.

I also think there may be a slight hereditary aspect to ID twins. In my family there is at least one set of fraternal twins going back 4 generations in the maternal line (as far back as we know, since lineage is patrilineal). My mother and I are confirmed hyperovulators, and we've both miscarried a set of B/G twins. I am also a surviving ID twin, my mum is a surviving fraternal twin (lost a brother), and my maternal grandmother had B/G twin siblings, and the girl went on to have ID girl twins. Could be a coincidence but I wonder!

I personally am SO NERVOUS about this. I'm 100% having at least one boy (confirmed via blood test) and I just have this extreme anxiety that I'm going to be the first person who swayed hard (LE diet for 7 months, 60 minutes of exercise/7 days a week, 1 attempt) that somehow ends up with TWO boys swaying pink. I posted this in my due date thread, but I'm really hoping if they are both boys that they are at least identical. If they are identical I only had one "failed sway", but if they are fraternal I'm not going to have any idea how the heck I had 2 "failed sways" at the same time. Very scary thought! I'd like to possibly try for a fourth (when originally we were going to stop at 2, HA), but having a pink sway end in 2 boys makes me feel massively unsuccessful/unlucky and makes me scared to ever try again.

OH BB, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to add to any anxiety you are experiencing. I have just gotten several messages from people lately who seemed to think that conceiving twins while swaying was then going to be a guarantee of a girl...but it isn't and I just have to point that out from time to time.

When I went into my ultrasound with DS 3, I told my husband "it has to be a girl or twin boys and I"ll be happy" (suffice it to say, I wasn't happy LOL). I really love twin boys, I think little boys should come in pairs like shoes. :)

I would be OVER the moon to be pregnant with twin boys! I always see twin girls, BG fraternal twins or GG fraternal twins. I bet they would be so cute!!

I really should stop! DH desperately wants a girl! But they would be SO cute......

I am trying to see the positives, I promise. My dream in life has always been to have 2 boys (or more) and just one girl so I am over the moon about getting another DS for sure out of this deal. I'm also excited because I hate being pregnant and DH and I felt we were too old to have 4 kids with our ages and the spacing we wanted between kids, so now we are both kind of happy that 4 kids is a possibility for us (at least TIME wise). The idea of four boys is scary to me but kind of exciting at the same time. There's something very special about a family with that many sons and I could come to terms with it eventually.

I guess it's just hard for me because with a relatively stict sway we are seeing 60-90% success so hard to come to terms with me being in the 10-40% freaking TWICE! I worry if I do sway for a 4th what I could even do! I'm certainly not trying clomid next time (and didn't this time, lol). :)

Awwa... I love reading all the wonderful things about twin boys. I can hardly stand how adorable my gentleman are. They are so funny and sweet. Whatever the gender... Raising twins is amazing.

Also... My boys were a day 5 frozen embryo and are identical. They had their own sac and placenta! I had their DNA tested to make sure.

Bluebonnet, I'll be SHOCKED if you don't have at least one girl in there. Fx so very hard for you.

I almost forgot that I said that I would post a pic. Here they are sleeping. They are very twinly. 2 1/2 and already have a best friend.
I think my GD would have been worse if they had been fraternal due to losing two chances for the one girl I hoped for but now it wouldn't matter so much I would think. Twins can be close no matter what combo they are. I mean, how many of us have a same age playmate there for us all the time since birth?

I often put them in similar colours to help people know who 'the red twin' is etc. Now I just dress them however because I feel like their personalities show enough to tell them apart. It is amazing how different they are and they surprise me every day with their wonderfulness. I hope you twin Mums to be have a girl in there but if not, you will adjust at the loss of her when your precious boys come along xo

Sigh, sometimes I feel bad. I wish DS1 and my twins could be 'good enough', I feel so guilty. Life would be alot easier if I could move on from having more kids as my hands are full enough. I wish I could stop feeling like a daughter is so important but I want one so much as well (I am being greedy!) I bet people look at me and wish they could have had twins like I look at girls and wish for just one. I really would love to try giving it a shot as three kids is a great number for me and they are so great together. I feel like it could be achievable but I am too stubborn and want what I want

You are so right XX for hubby. It is my life and if I have a dream then I deserve to at least pursue it. We only have one life so why not make it the happiest it can be? I get sick of people on moral high horses trying to tell you what you should do and what to be greatful for etc

Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures 1+2+3 . Your boys are so precious! I often feel guilty about caring about the gender of the twins (if I'm lucky enough to deliver 2 healthy babies, isn't that special and wonderful enough?!), so I completely understand where you are coming from. I've warned DH many times that if it's 2 boys I would like a 4th baby. It's not so much that I *need* to have a daughter, I just *need* to feel like I've tried everything that's feasible for my family. If HT is going to be an option for your family, I think you are making the best choice possible for pursuing it. We all deserve to at least try to get what we want - I don't think that makes us monsters.

I have enjoyed naming my 2 (probable) boys. DH and I each got to pick the boy name we want with no arguing :) I have also enjoyed shopping for them. I gravitate towards dressing them in the same style but different colors (as you posted above 1+2+3) so I've already bought them a couple outfits like that. Nine more days until the anxiety goes away and I can just focus on the GD/excitement !

You shouldn't feel bad. They are totally natural feelings and I had them too! Just letting you know that if you don't get your dream even though it can sting you will be OK and you have heaps of support on this forum :) Sometimes I still wish things could have been different as my life would much easier now not having to think about adding another child when I only wanted three but then I wouldn't have my amazing twin boys who I wouldn't change for anything

Just out of curiosity, why are there so many natural twins conceived from pink sways? If blue swaying is intended to increase fertility, it seems like this would lead to more twins overall?? I'm just interested in the science of it!

:agree: we don't know but I have also been intrigued by this. We have not had many (any??? drawing a blank here) natural twins from blue sways, I don't think??? Despite the fact that much of what blue swayers do is supposed to up odds of twinning. Then again, we have probably 3-4 times as many pink swayers as blue and it may just be a numbers game.

Please keep in mind that this may not be because of swaying, however. Many boy moms may have PCO-tendencies and may be hyperovulators by nature and just never caught both eggs before. People are also using breastfeeding, TTC after a miscarriage, and several of us have had 4-5-6 kiddos already, all of which up odds of twinning.

Additionally, there are a couple ways to think about "fertility". When I say reducing "fertility", I am referring to the ability of sperm to meet egg. I believe the easier this is, the more blue-friendly the couple. But there are other types of fertility such as the ability to release good eggs, possibly more than one, and the ability of those eggs once fertilized, to create a pregnancy, plus the ability of a woman's body to sustain two babies. I think only the sperm meeting egg is really swaying gender, although there may be something with possibly more boys lost if someone was in truly bad condition - I don't want anyone to EVER get into that bad of condition. I only intend for swaying to happen pre-conception, not post.

Now that I think about it, quite a few of my pink swayers already HAD twins...twin boys! at least 4 pink swayers on here already had twin boys, 2 fraternal, 2 identical (and I think I am missing at least one other person here) and some of us also had twins but lost one or both along the way. Makes me think there may be something to the idea that as a group we may be coming into this with at least some of us more "set" for both boys and twins.

I think it's mostly if not entirely bc, in general, most blue swayers are higher fertility and more likely to have twins in the first place bc of that, and/or age as many pink swayers are older. Probably a bit of both. I don't think it's due to swaying though.

Popping in to say I think conceiving quickly after a loss may have caused my twins. I didn't take clomid, don't think I have pcos, and have zero family history of them.
